Tips for Legendary

As the title suggests really,

Getting bossed by everything that moves and blinks.

I also seem wary of getting into a warthog because as soon as the covies turn up I may as well just give up.

Finally got a check point on level 3 (oni base) and blew the two wraiths.
Its damn hard and makes me want to hurt the controller

Try the noob combo: plasma pistol and DMR/NR. And armor lock is your friend. Hated, dreaded techniques for multiplayer, but they’re immensely helpful in the campaign.

For levels with vehicles, just remember that you have infinite ammo. Try to avoid vehicular combat if at all possible, and just keep your distance.

You’ll find levels with brutes to be the hardest. The NR makes quick work of them, but ammo is generally scarce.

Good luck!

Thank you, so far it is quite infuriating but I will prevail. I hope.

a reaver came out and blew me and the warthog away…

Okay you say use armour lock but how? I used to stop a wraith from blowing me into next week but theres more to it isnt there?
What do I use the armour lock for?

Tips for legendary? Well this is Halo: Reach the easiest Halo of them all. No need for BMO or ITZ mode …

But yea if you are that bad then turn those on …

Also sit back and deal as much damage as you can from afar with DMR/Snipers. Also watch Youtube videos on speed runs.

Use the noob combo of charged plasma pistol shot then a DMR bullet to the enemies skull (especially elites).

Armor Lock uses:
Remove a plasma grenade stuck to you
Block an explosive
Peel off an enemies shields (or at least damage them)
Deflects enemy gunfire every which way (uncontrollable)

Got high explosive ordinance (rockets/fuel rod/spartan laser)? Blow the enemy vehicles up with those.

Always be on the look out for medkits.

Remember the other members of your spartan team can’t be killed by enemy gunfire but they still run away from it all the time so they’re not reliable.

Never let the spartan squadmate named Kat drive … She’ll bring you off a cliff and to your doom … She got artificial special needs not artificial intelligence I’m afraid …

your best friend is the plasma pistol and dmr combo or if you ain’t comfortable with that, let the A.I do some of the work for ya and then pop the covies in the head when they are one shot.

Thanks for the reply, going to give it another shot soon.

Hopefully I wont crush the pad in anger.

The best tip is to never ever ever let the AI drive the vehicle. Always drive it yourself. Let them get in the turret. Then you can drive at your speed and safety and sometimes even drive the vehicle up, hop out and hide behind it.

DMR/Sniper are your friends.

Keep your distance as much as possible and stick close to cover.

Your AI spartan teammates are more useful on Legendary than any other difficulty as they can’t die. They are a damage sponge. Use them to distract the enemy while you pick them off from afar. They definitely come in handy when facing Hunters.

On Nightfall, use the forklift glitch to do a speedrun on it. It will save you hours of frustration.

I used the Drop Shield whenever I could since it protects you and heals you. I rarely needed health packs because of it.

Play it safe and take your time.

Noob combo and snipe when you can are good advice.

ONI has a couple of things to be aware of - hang back and kill the grunts and shield carriers at first and wait until the Phantom clears. Then sprint to the far end. That will make Kat actually advance, and she’ll knock some heads, so you can finish off the elites with headshots.

For the next section, I like to use the Target locator to take out ONE of the Wraiths, and the 'jack the other (There was a speed-run video a couple months back that you really should look at.) That leaves the Target locator’s second shot for the General at the AA gun, and you can use the Wraith to pound the rest of the level from a distance.

The de-spawn inside the base saves some aggravation, but is not as big a deal.

Always remember to stay back. On most levels, you have Ai to help you. These are very helpful for killing some enemies and weakening some others. The AI are good, but they aren’t too good fighting enemies in different positions around them.

Also, if you have a Spartan buddy, hide behind them. They are very accurate and invulnerable.

And Needler/Needle Rifle makes quick work of Brutes. And have either a plasma Rifle or Plasma Pistol for fighting Elites. Tears their shields to shreds.

Good luck.

i grab a sniper, the target locator, and armorlock, just use armorlock to block thw wraith blasts, and use the target locater when you can. th boulders are your friend as well.

the trick is…

get this…

you have to be smarter than a inanimate object.

In all seriousness though, the above posts are good tips. Just play passively and wait for your moment instead of just rushing in there and dying over and over.

don’t die

Plasma Pistol, DMR/Needle Rifle/Pistol

Sticky Grenades

Distance Always

Sometimes the other Spartans will do the work for you.

Co-op = 10x easier, re-spawns/suicides

Have a look at my fileshare ,the mythic runs will give you a few tips.

Don’t run out guns blazing! - Take your time, be patient, kill things off if they’re in your way.

Stay back and pick things off from a distance - It’s much easier to kill things when they have less of a chance to shoot at you

Plasma Pistol Overcharge + DMR = Dead (previously) shielded things!

Also, take a peek at Mythic Tyrant’s videos. They’re very helpful!

Hope this helps!

Well, you can speedrun through half of it. And the parts you HAVE to fight, just use the Noob Combo (plasma pistol+dmr/magnum).

This video has been helping me immensely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHPBu8gmL1M

Oh and use the Needle Rifle on the Brutes!! 3sk if you shoot the body!

ONI is one of the more easier levels in the campaign to do on legendary, just remember this isn’t like older halo’s, you can’t dance with elites meleeing them, if they close the distance, run back, take cover, let an AI occupy them while you recover. Because of the damage system, enemy melee is lethal even if you have full shields. Sometimes you can get away with a partial drain from one hit, but not usually. Strip elites’ shields with the plasma pistol but don’t over charge it, on legendary sometimes their shields may require more than 1 fully charged burst to drain their shields. But it is a viable option - to ‘noob’ shot them. Armour lock is generally useless in the campaign, it is better to stay mobile than to deflect some damage. Unless you are playing with Iron on or aiming for flawless cowboys then there is no shame in dying.

When you get the target locator, blow up both wraiths, then after all enemies are dead get the rocket launcher and give it to the AI marine who enters the warthog. Make him ride shotgun (passenger), while you drive and kat mans the gun. This way you have unlimited rockets, very valuable if you can keep him alive. Revenants are devastating on legendary, best thing to do is strafe while driving, with a rocket passenger. Once you get inside the base just take it slow, and remember never charge an enemy who is using a power weapon.

Tips in general. Duck into cover when you can, never stand out in the open. Be wary of suicide grunts, if you shoot their grenades when they go kamakazi they blow up instantly. Hunters aren’t the same as in other games, they need way more ammo to beat, the shotgun works very well if you know how to dodge their attacks when up close.

When it comes to enemy vehicles if you can kill the gunner, there is a point where if you are in a vehicle they will not shoot at you if you are at a particular distance from them. Very usefull for dealing with wraiths on Tip of the spear at the 2nd AA gun.

Never let AI spartans drive. Don’t betray AI marines, noble team has nuclear bullets.

Never rely on noble team, they suck, instead take cover in firefights, try to flank enemies. Be wary of over charged plasma pistols and jackal/skirmisher marksmen especially when your shields are down.

Grunts react well to plasma, as do brutes, elites have more health and are harder to kill with plasma alone. Jackals you can 2 shot them, if you shoot with the dmr where they shoot from their shields, then when they are stunned they expose their head.

Pace your shots, conserve your ammo, and use power weapons wisely. Brute Chieftains on legendary are nasty, especially with fuel rod guns or gravity hammers.

Good luck with your quest!

The shiftymorgan whinge-athon is now going full steam ahead, still on ONI but got to fight two brutes, gave this about 20 goes before I had to leave.

The little grunts hiding behind them with their little pop shots. Gits.

Thank you all for your advice, I would love to get the single player achievement by the end of the year!

Oni ,brutes.
I must be loosing the plot.
