tips for Arena

I have an arena KDA of -1.5 and want to have a KDA of at least 1.0. I have 6148 kills and 7350 deaths. Does anyone have advice for me so I can have more kills than deaths in arena?

Try to play more carefully and stay around teammates. I find warming up in Warzone Assualt before entering the arena will make a big difference as well.

-try to stay with a teammate
-don’t chase for kills
-focus less on getting kills and more on not dying
-try changing your controls and sensitivity to make accurate shots easier

I would add:

  • keep track of when power ups and weapons spawn - know where your team and the enemy are - don’t forget to use the AR up close - don’t rage, keep as calm as possible - play snipers to get more comfortable sniping - don’t ignore your radar - look up lukethenotable on YouTube he has a ton of good halo 5 tipsI hope that was helpful

the first three here will offer immediate improvement in your game. do these first and foremost. you will see lower deaths (and poss fewer kills at first) but you will learn to play each life to its max and your team wont suffer.

from here you can focus on something i see HCS teams do a lot: i call it “chipping” for lack of a better word. it mainly involves situations where an opp and i are not engaged and probably won’t be (he’s headed away or is too far away). chipping is when I can get a couple shots in on that player with no expectation of getting the kill (ideally I make that callout to the team, but it’s good as a silent rando, too) guys i party up with are employing this as well. As one puts it…we shoot at the same target. This leaves opps feeling like they can’t move at all and it makes it easier for you and your team to get kills. You can see this in the consistently high assists in HCS games. When they total 25 things are clicking and that’s good; up in the 30+ range and a victory can seem flat unavoidable. Opps never really have full shields. I realized that I had a tendency to avoid this before because i either didn’t have confidence in my shot or I didn’t want to call attention to other opps or chase something… but you’re not chasing you’re chipping.

after this it’s shot shot shot. get your shot better with slow improvement. i had consistent 20-30% accuracy and it’s gone up to a consistent 40+ (hey. it’s progress…lol). my next goal is get that poor lifetime arena avg up to 50. i started using primarily mag followed by BR and carbine. i also started playing octagon customs to get at least 100 total kills in those before I match Arena that session. here you will add/develop several strafes and accuracy skills in 1v1s with mostly better competition. this is a helluva way to start your sesh. some prefer wz. whatever works. i find elites on legendary can be crafty practice at twitched snapshots but onyx/champ opps in customs can give you a glimpse at technique that you just won’t see anywhere else. get owned and then take that warmup into arena…lol you’ll see.

i would add that map movement is huge. load common maps into custom games. i don’t care which map it is…every one will have shot markers on the walls. headshots line up with some horizontal lighting effect or signage or the like. they are literally everywhere from every possible vantage point on the map. knowing these will help to instinctively line up shots in real action by providing your hand/eye skills more data to sort of “pre aim”. then there is control. 1st step is to know every callout location on every map eventually and get in the habit of knowing exactly where you are by its callout. the same is true for opps that you would call out. you need to be able to communicate that.

lastly…i find going to youtube and working on map jumps and tricks improves my play a lot and keeps the game fresh. try it out. learn how to nail jumps that your opps can’t. it can be like having a new game sometimes and nearly every trick or jump you learn is applicable to other maps and your game.

all of these will improve your kd and kda. imho…everything else should be secondary as and until this begins to fully gel. they’re important (power-ups, power weapons, all of it) but the former are fundamental to get beyond your natural ability in the game…i.e. get to the next level for you.

i’m working on all of this and it’s helped. again…1 custom on the same map every day for 10-15 minutes until your’re bored or want to move on; octagon time; your’re talking as little as one hour a day. then, jump in Arena and gauge the results over time.

good luck to you sir. peace.

Don’t get the random team mates I usually do.

Advice like stick with your team mates is fine if people communicate and actually have a strategy that matches how you want to play - CTF someone has to pull flags at some point - if everyone hangs defence eventually you will get pushed back on spawn

Don’t play on Aus v US connection like I do either - lag plays a part big time

I agree with everything said above.

I took a look into your service record though:
You seem to be making very few kills with the standard weapons.
Could it be that you focus too much on getting a power weapon and get yourself killed trying to get it?

I am focused more on the power weapons because I absolutely suck with the regular weapons.

Easiest way to force teamwork is to just follow and teammate around the map.

Practice using precision weapons and not autos

Don’t be afraid to camp.

Don’t be afraid to shoot across the map

Listen for enemies. (Use a headset)

Learn power pad spawns, weapon spawns, power up spawns and how to time them.

Simply reading abstract comments isn’t going to translate well to actual performance. If you want to really learn, you have to see it in action.

Watch twitch streams or youtube commentaries of people who are better than you, this is the best, easiest & quickest way to learn until hitting at least onyx.
Check out Vetoed’s 2 series, “Cruise control to champion” and “Greatest gunslinger.”

Also play some octagon, you’re going to have a real difficult time doing well with only 38% accuracy.
There’s usually someone hosting a game in the custom browser.

Exactly. The majority of battles are with starting weapons, you need to be good with them.
The 2nd series I mentioned before is getting top 200 rank with pistol only, and the 1st one is no pistol allowed.
