TIPS FOR 1V1

Hey what’s up guys, I have never really played 1s before. I’ve always enjoyed 2s and 3s but here recently I actually did my first placement for 1s and I’m loving it.
I have been doing the colony rush, any pro tips?
Side note it always seems like in 1s when my first army wipes I just slowly keep losing until I either sell off or get stomped.
I’m not a bad player just curious what you pros are doing different.

Thanks

Colony likes stealing minibases to put up raid camps in order to harass the enemy. I wouldn’t suggest full on rushing, just sending your Goliaths to their minis and putting damage on their generators with them. Also, build a few skits early on. They’re good for stealing supplies, and when you put them on the Goliaths, they grant a lot of extra HP. They will either go scouts or anti-infantry to counter you. If they go scouts, spam grunts with the mine upgrade and expand. If they go anti-infantry, go Choppers.

Once you’re in T2 and on two bases, double pump Marauders, get Engies for support, and get your Hero out. Make sure to put skits on everything you can. They’re very underrated and help a ton.

Once you have Colony Drop, use it as much as you can and hit undefended spots. Remember to target generators as they’re very expensive. When they fall back to kill the Goliaths, use Engineer Support to keep them alive a bit long to further hurt their eco.

Overall, Colony is a low tier leader, but still quite underrated in my opinion. You just have to make sure you harass whenever you can and expand so that you can afford Devastating Host later on. He can be very powerful.

Well, I’m no pro, far from it but I have a fair amount of experience in 1s.

In regards to Colony I’d try practicing other builds besides the rush. Once you get to a certain skill level players will see the Colony pick and just assume it’s coming. Try going supply first for map control and then transition to a T2 army. Having two foundries and a raid camp can give you a great mix.

Additionally I’d suggest working on your macro game. Try to know when to expo and try to always be building units. Also knowing when to retreat is vital for avoiding an army wipe.

When i first started i only played 3’s, then migrated into 2’s then i really got into ones - especially this season (Currently Champ 8) It really helps you develop your skill for the other game modes but the play style is completely different. If you go full rush in 1’s and you lose your army then you’ve pretty much lost the game which is what it sounds like you have experienced a few times.

it’s just going to take a lot of practice to get really good but here are a few tips i’ve learnt over the last few months that have really helped me.

  1. Be aggressive, always be doing something and don’t sit back at your base. You want to split your army and hit multiple mini’s at the same time. Alot of people panic when they are trying to defend 3-4 spots at the same time. Unit drops are good for catching a base unguarded and causing some damage. As above target the generators first. In most cases it’s best to strip the base then try and go straight for the main

  2. Army composition is key, i think most games are won/loss in the early game. Mix your units for example. Marines, Leader, Flames and a couple of jack rabbits that way you can counted everything but you need to micro each individual unit to best win your battles. Always include a couple of counter units with your main army.

  3. pick and choose your battles, know when to run

  4. Always keep your army moving, left, right, back forward when in battle ( avoid leader powers, especially mines,)

  5. Steal your opponents nodes whenever the opportunity arises.

  6. Buy every frickin’ mini on the map, mini’s in ones give a really strong advantage, especially when your main is getting pushed and you need to keep pumping units. Most games i go supply x 4 then gen. Then a few minutes later i’ll sack a supply and build a 2nd gen on the main.

  7. use your leader powers wisely.

  8. Expo when your opponents on the back foot / their side of the map so you know it’s safe

  9. Don’t worry about rushing to tech 2, it’s situational but i will sometimes upgrade all the pads on my main before teching, especially if we are battling it out early to help fund my spending.

  10. Scout early, 2 minute mark. sometimes 3 minutes is too late. This way you can prepare for a rush or if your opponent is trying to quick tech you know that you can march over there and do some damage as it’s unlikely they will have alot of units. No turrets? LOVELY

Thanks for all the feed back guys for the most part this is what I’ve been doing expect for choosing my battles lol. I see my enemy and I see blood haha, I’ll tone it down on the full blown rush .
It’ so different I was champ in 3s a few seasons back but I have the most fun in 2s. 3s is just to random something weird or some bs always happens .
2s can be really competitive and fun coordinating with your parnter.
