If you were to bestow knowledge upon a “Young Grasshopper” who’s just gotten into the Halo series, what would you teach him or her oh great and wonderful Grand Masters of Old?

Tip: I found Halo most enjoyable in both Multiplayer and Story Mode by getting into the lore first. It gave every battle more meaning. A lot of times the extra content, short films, or even the books will add so many more layers to the premise.

I’ve been playing Shooters since Doom probably and i played every single damn Halo game but i can’t for the love of god, get my head around the multiplayer. This drives me mad because i want to be good at it. So here are my questions regarding the multiplayer:

  1. Is there a Headshot Damage Multiplier?
  2. Burstfire or just “let 'er rip”?
  3. When should i use the zoom/ADS Feature and when shouldn’t i?
  4. Is it even possible to be good at this game without using the power weapons? Should i as a noob/scrub/casual even dare to pick up one of the power weapons
  5. How, where and when should i throw the grenades? Everybody seems to be a -Yoinking!- nade sniper, except for me.

Thank you, dear Halo Lords!

Halo is a very competive multiplayer, but it can be relaxing as well.

  1. First thing is pacing, negotiating the map at a slower pace can often be better than scrambling around looking for every fight. Now that shields don’t charge when doing stuff like sprinting, it’s important to know when to run and when to stay.
  2. Map knowledge, can’t go anywhere if you don’t know where you’re going. Halo 5 is back to the roots of having power weapon spawning at certain locations. They can turn the tide of battle, either using them or traping people trying to get them.
  3. Zooming in for halo is just for a closer look. Shooting from the hip is just as effective. Get hit while zoomed in and you out causing some delay between shots. Find the happy medium with distance and aim accordingly.
  4. Head shots and burst: being accurate is always key to winning a fire fight. Head shots will drop someone much faster. So always try and go for them. I don’t know the exact multiplier, but it’s there.
  5. Map knowledge can lead to well placed grenades with bouncing them or lobbing them. Often knowing where to throw is better then just throwing freely. With the sticky grenades. Practice will make those more effective with hitting the mark.
    Hope this helps

Casuals can pick up power weapons as long as they’re not precision weapons. Use the campaign to figure out how exactly to use the weapon before you use it. Be smart with CQC power weapons like the shotty and sword. Don’t pick up the sniper or plasma caster unless you know exactly what you’re doing, because if you don’t, chances are there’s someone on your team who is better than you at it, and you’re putting your team down by picking it up.

As far as aiming goes, only ADS when you’re going from long distances - it doesn’t do anything but waste time in medium to close combat. Always have your backup weapon fully loaded and able to back up your primary, even going into battle with two BRs isn’t an awful idea. Switching to your secondary is always faster than reloading.
