Time to get rid of the auto search after games

Yes I know we asked for this but we were clearly wrong by wanting it. My last BTB game had four idle players. MCC has gotten so good recently and all it needs now is a way to cut down on idle players. It’s getting to be pretty rare when I don’t have idle players in matches.

I think the auto-search is fine. What they need for AFKers is an auto-detect and boot feature in game. Pair that with the first quitter getting the ban penalty and they effectively kill two birds with a single stone.

Possibly but preventing them from getting into the game to begin with would be better than booting them after however long. I would rather they in game in some cases much like that one where there was four of them as they gave the other team a lot of free kills there for ending the game faster. Which is better than making a 4v8 game via auto boot.

Removing the auto-search may reduce AFKers some, but I imagine most AFKers occur from long searches that may lead to the player walking away or even possibly falling asleep. My bro use to drink and game to the point of passing out back during the Halo 2 days and you could hear him snoring over the mic throughout a match.

The auto-detect and boot method is the best means to effectively identify the culprit AFKers and actively remove them while also appropriately punishing them. This occurs when you pair that system with a ban system that focuses on harshly punishing anyone booted for AFKing as well as the 1st quitter (in general) instead of the following quitters. Allowing the remaining players to leave with a loss instead of a ban penalty saves them from feeling like they’re wasting their finite time within a fairly pointless match. Another solution is to add a forfeit option so that players can end a match prematurely without having to actually quit.

Ideally, the ideas above could be paired with other means to improve the experience too. I’d love to see a limited JiP like Halo 5 has (for its social environment) adopted into the social match composer with some minor improvements. Improvements like not tallying a loss on your personal record if you joined a losing effort with the team never managing to take the lead before going on to lose and no joining a match late (near its time limit). And for the ranked environment, only allow the player(s) that leave a match to return to it, so that an accidental disconnect won’t necessarily prevent you from finishing the match. Perhaps a rejoining player could lessen their ban penalty if they were the 1st quitter; though, there may be some unintended consequences with that idea relating to potential abuses.

I agree the better solution is to boot afk players before the next match is made.

I think a ‘ready up’ function would be best.

Right now, players in a high populated playlist might queue up too quickly for the next match and be afk, without the afk system noticing.

In other instances, if you are searching for a low population list, you might find a match, only to get kicked before loading because you hadn’t pushed a button in awhile because the search took too long.
Also, if in a party, maybe 1 person hasn’t pushed a button in a long time and therefore the party can’t begin searching.

Simply add a ‘ready up’ option before the match begins. Everyone queuing would need to accept that they are ready, or they are booted pre-match, and their spot is filled before the match starts.

Halo 5 has auto search and I like it. It keeps the momentum going. I like that mcc brought it in, because it was lame having to navigate the menus again after each match.

I’m confused, when i queue and leave my controller alone it tells me it can’t enter the game with idling players. Is this only for ranked or something?
