does any one know how long the MC was out for? was he sleeping for … a year? 10,000 years or what?

Actually we know for a fact that he’s still in cryo on the Forward Unto Dawn in 2556. In Halo Legends: Origins Part 1, Cortana says something along the lines of “When I was born 7 years ago”. Cortana was created in 2549. 2549 + 7 = 2556. Also, Smart AI tend to go into rampancy after 7 years of being “alive”.
So yeah, we know for a fact that it won’t take place before 2556.

In cryo your cells cease any metabolic function and you stop aging (at least, that’s the idea). As such, even after 1,000,000 years under, if he went in aged 41, he’d come out aged 41. And quite stiff.

Born 2511-2552 which is current time as of Halo 3. You don’t age in cryo sleep so he is the same age he was when I goti in as he isnwhen he gets out, regardless of the time it took. Unless they skip him waking up entirely and skip years which I doubt. He is for sure 41 in Halo 4

He’s still only aged 41 years. And absolutely nothing they only given us stuff on forerunners and 343 Guilty Spark’s life before the events of halo (the terminals)
you may not age in cryo, but you would still be how ever years old after waking up, just your body would be that of a X yr old person as when you went in.

Well, he is still in there in 2556. In the Teaser Trailer, there is a lot of condensation and even ice on and around the cryo pods. You can also see that Cortana and the Chief look different, however this may just be because they were unfinalized versions. I wouldn’t think Halo 4 would be past 2560, so 2556-2560 is my best guess. But thats just my guess. Though, I doubt the Chief would be able to drift around for thousands of years without hitting something. He would eventually get pulled in by the gravity of some star, so it would be unlikely for it to be more than a hundred years after Halo 3. A couple decades at the most… IMO.

Don’t forget that chief had also spent time in cryo multiple times before even the battle of Reach. I’m sure his biological age is something less than 41, but his real age is 41.
So, technically, everyone here saying the chief will be 41 is wrong if the game takes place at least one year after Halo 3, his biological age will be the same, but his real age will be over 41.

Nevermind about the article. I found it. And it does say 2553, but it doesn’t say where they got it from. The beginning part might be speculation, like most other articles involving Halo 4. The rest says its in an interveiw, but where did they get the date?
of 343 has any idea of canon i would say after 2556
