"Thursday War" Karen Traviss next Halo Book...

I’m sure many of you halo fans have read Cryptum,Primordium and Glasslands. In any case Karen Travis’s next book is slated to come out October 2nd. Do any of you think that it will be any good, (theres alot of hate on traviss) Glasslands did somewhat of a nice job tieing the story together but really put to much emphasis on Halseys agenda and the spartan program. What are your guy’s thoughts on her next book and what do you speculate to happen, plz comment?

Well my hopes for it aren’t that great. Like you said, lots of emphasis directed on making Halsey the most unlikable person in the whole damn universe. I’ll be the first to admit she is a morally gray character, but when she is compared to a -Yoink!-…that really pushes it.Then don’t even get me started on ONI or the main Elite characters. They are just…evil for some of the worst reasons.

Oh ONI always trying to do things for the greater good of humanity, always with some sort of hidden agenda. That damn (women!) Parangosky. The Elites are just in a state of confusion (except for the arbiter and select followers) and dissaray.

I’m kind of looking forward to her book, mostly because I love reading the Halo novels, and because the last forerunner book has yet to be announced. But most of the hate toward her is because some of her past work is questionable because she screws with canon. But I trust that 343i has her on a VERY short lease, and review every single word she writes.

Yes, the greater good. I suppose that is why ONI focuses their attention mostly on the Elites because they “pose a threat” instead of the rebels who actually attack a crippled UNSC ship. Which is odd how that even is pretty much sidelined until the end of the book.

And as for the Elites, the character Jul is just a bad one. What exactly are his motivations? He hates humans for a variety of reasons, yet none of them make any sense. Sure he is entitled to fear humanity bouncing back, but to compare us to the Flood? Seriously? He is using arguments the Prophets used, the same aliens who betrayed the Elites. I’d get it if he were religious like 'Telcam, but he doesn’t even have that cover.

Is it me or does ONI seem like it’s starting to become like Cerberus from Mass Effect?

In my mind, Oni, is kind of like Cerberus was in Mass Effect 2, they was doing some questionable things, but they’re mostly trying to do things for the greater good for the human race. Which in Halo, makes more sense than it does in Mass Effect.

Well the Flood is a parasite that either destroys or takes over everything or everyplace it goes.

Kinda of like humanity, actually, a lot like humanity.

We have so many examples in our world today, look at how fast we are spreading and destroying everything in our path.

Just like the Elites did when they were in the Covenant. And Jul’s attitude now.

To me it was the best part, I always hated Hasley and the whole rapting childs to make them Humanity’s Greatest Hope, I’m glad she took a well deserved (psychological) beatdown.
I am also glad that 343/writters decided to ditch the whole child soldier deal, it never made sense to me.

And before then too. It would be silly to assume that the Elites are any different from Humanity. They have industries and a lot of mouths to feed; colonies and a home world with 9 billion on it which is sure to have messed up their planet in a few ways. Not to mention their war-torn history. Where do these resources all come from? The Sangheili are the last people I would think who would complain about resources being used up and environments being ruined.

Although if we are going to be specific about this then the Flood takes resources from people, and takes people’s own lives as well, in order to expand and survive. Humanity does not take anyone’s resources, or anyone’s lives, in expanding or surviving because the worlds Humanity colonizes don’t belong to anyone. Jul is a ret@rd for making that comparison.

Then you obviously missed the significance of why the Spartan-II program was important.

You mean there was something else other than them being glorified cannon fodder?

After Glasslands, I vowed to never give Traviss any of my money for a book again. I don’t know about anyone else, but at most I’ll read the plot summary on the Halo wiki or whatever.

This will be the first Halo book where I’ve been turned ‘off’ by the author. My money will be going to Greg Bear for the final book in the Forerunner Trilogy.

I’m pretty excited. I loved Glasslands. Although it seems I’m in the minority.

Yeah, the Spartan-IIs were made to stop a galactic human civil war that threatened to plunge humanity into a second dark age, except one that humanity may never recover from.

I loved the progression of the story, BUT I’m not enjoying the Emotional side of Mendez and the other Spartans… OR that Halsey was the Crazed lunatic.

I miss NYLUND!!!

I am probably alone, but she and Greg Bear have always but my two favorite authors, even before Halo. (p.s. i read way to much)

I never under stood the Travis hate. I loved glasslands. Should this be in the halo 4 forums though?

Well, when you wait around five years for a sequel to Ghosts of Onyx to learn about the shield world Halsey and Co. went into only to see it as a Forerunner parking garage, it’s pretty annoying.
