Thumbstick aiming still feels super awkward.

This is not a discussion about aim assist, or the lack thereof. Even after 343 has introduced the ability to adjust out axial dead zones something doesn’t quite feel right. The aiming feels so stiff compared to halo’s 3,4… and to a lesser degree 5, 5 had some really stiff aim as well.

Again this isn’t a discussion about aim assist. I’d like to find out from a game designer why halo infinites thumbstick aiming feels so muddy compared to the previous titles.

And when I say this isn’t a discussion about Aim assist for the 3rd time, I mean the simple act of aiming between two spots on a wall is far more challenging in infinite than it is in say… halo 3. I feel like I have far less of a degree of control over the reticule.

I’m finding aiming difficult, but I can’t tell if that’s because I’ve set my Xbox up on my 65 inch TV or not.

Might try it on my gaming monitor later and see if it’s any easier.

Yea, it felt so so to me too.

I’ve played for about 6 hours now (omg lol didn’t realise the time passing) and I had to wrestle the sensitivity settings for a while until it felt comfortable, it is definitely WAY too slow and unresponsive at default settings and it almost feels like i’m playing with an arcade joystick, but it can be sorted somewhat.

If anyone wants to try my settings and see if they are comfortable, I did the following:

  • dropped “Look:center deadzone” to 3.0 - dropped “Look:axial deadzone” to 3.0 - increased “Look acceleration” to 4 - increased “look sensitivity (horizontal)” to 9.0 - increased “look sensitivity (vertical)” to 8.5This still feels quite slow compared to other fps games but its better than it was

Halo has always been slower than every other first person shooter in this regards. As someone coming from halo reach and 3 being the last halo games I’ve played it feels relatively good to me. A bit different yes but it feels very similar.

Thumbstick aiming def feels super weird, tho the still massive lack of aim assist doesn’t help. I can’t seem to get my thumbstick settings right n just makes me not wanna play.

The vertical aiming is painfully slower than the horizontal aiming on controler PC. It does feel harder to aim in general too compared to MCC. the muddy feel describes it well.

I play on 10, 10, 10 sens on Halo 3 and when I play on Infinite the max settings are too slow for me. Wish they could increase the Sens! lol

You are moving mad. That’s crazy.

All I play is halo. I get that it’s “slower” but even in relation to older games it feels weird.

I’m with you 100%.

There feels like no slowdown which is the type of aim assist most games use and it feels super weird without it.

I don’t have a problem with the slowness, since I am a caveman with the sicks, but the game just feels really clunky at the default. I did use your deadzone settings and found that those helped immensely. thank you.

After playing halo3/MCC I miss the simple single option. lol

aiming in this title feels seriously clunky to me also, playing on PC with an overclocked controller but it feels like im playing console with what im assuming is input lag making it feel so bad, cant even imagine how bad console versions feel

Ignore aim assist. The aim feels weird even when aiming at inanimate objects. Again im not referring to the aim assist. It’s like the halo 3 sniper it has almost no aim assist or magnetism yet feels wayyyy better.

I feel too slow and low precision at the beginning of the acceleration curve and only at the end I feel a sharp change in acceleration. Other games like Cod warzone or apex legend (it is editable), has the perfect acceleration curve for me, I can even play perfectly without having aiming assistance. In this halo I feel like my fingers get stuck because I do not know what to do and then add that it is at 30fps in Og xbox one

Glad it’s not just me. I had to try out a few matches of Halo 3 and Alex just to make sure my controller wasn’t the issue.

if you play a ton of MCC then play infinite its going to feel weird plain and simple. Infinite is the firs thalo in almost 6 years and on a completely revamped engine. its going to feel awkward if until you get used to it. Ive put alot of hours into both flights so far and it felt really bad at first but now it feels 2nd nature and normal. for reference i jumped on h5 and mcc and those games feel painfully easy in comparison to infinite.

Halo being “New” has nothing to do with the clunky and inconsistent aiming. If anything that make it worse. How can the new COD, Apex and even older Halos have responsive aiming, and this new Halo it’s all over the place. I’ve played every FPS under the sun since the original Xbox and this aiming is abysmal.

It’s super hard to track Targets and for some reason the acceleration is inconsistent from one moment to the next.

It is a bit faster then the classics, that might be what it is. Ttk is definitely quicker than 3 or reach. But a lot slower it seems than 5.

I was about to make this thread. Thank you.

I feel the exact same way. Something is… off. Not just when aiming at people, but even aiming at spots on a wall - it’s clunky, janky, unrefined, or something.
