Thruster Pack question using it to get closer

Thruster Pack question using it to get closer to melee enemy.

I haven’t been able to try this in combat but out in open you boost to get closer to ur enemy and press R3 to melee but it takes forever for melee to register not only that but you have to wait for cutscene to end. has anyone had luck with this or is this another useless perk?

Thruster Pack question using it to get closer to melee enemy

no one knows?

Pretty much useless as far as I can tell. It’s easier to run. The jump in the screen is also hella disconcerting. I haven’t actually seen anyone use this effectively in any match I’ve played yet.

its only good for flood, which isn’t that fun in the first place due to the fact the flood actually start out with shields which honestly makes the pistol useless.

I was actually looking forward to using the thrust pack but then I found out how f’ing terrible it was, it barely moves you forward a meter at best. Oh well at least there are other abilities…

I pretty much never use it, promethean vision in flood mode is more useful for me personally, and I don’t have it unlocked for my loadouts.

The whole boost melee combo definitely works though, half of the time when I get infected in flood is a guy boosting right into my face with thruster pack and swinging. It actually works from a victim’s point of view, namely because it’s almost disorienting with how fast they close the gap. One second they’re safely out of reach and you can just shoot them, no big deal, next second they’re right in your face halfway through the swing animation on their flood claw.

Just one suggestion if you decide to boost at people a lot, is just mind the walls if you’re either a flood or your shields are down, otherwise you might end up like this poor sap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp7iVbh3F8k&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_656599

Just mute your audio though, the audio that the guy put over the actual in game audio is actually pretty annoying

It should move you more, not jet pack more but more

I only use it to dip and dodge. I never used it to get closer, but i’ll start.

You’re doing it wrong.

Normally I wouldn’t say that, but you are in fact using it in the worst way possible.

You should not use this as a dive to get into melee range, sprint does practically the same thing at the same speed and doesn’t screw with your vision.

For me, jukejets are really for dodging snipers, spartan lasers, and getting stick-dodges on most vehicles. I can’t count how many warthog sprees I have ended using a plasma grenade and jukejets. Also, using them to burst into cover if you’re losing a DMR/BR/LR/C duel, or dodge a plasma, or stick someone at point blank and dodge backwards, or juke out of the way of a sword or hammer or oddball, put some distance between you and a shotty, or when you and the enemy both melee each other you can juke backwards and headshot as most people go in for a second melee. Heck I have had a guy chasing me, only to jump up and juke backwards to pull of oldschool ninja assassinations (and on the flip side I have used juke jets in melee range to burst past someone, flip around and assassinate).

They’re supposed to be for quick avoidance of something, not a rushdown. I basically consider these things the new and considerably less stupid armor lock.

It’s good for evading and dodging. It’s not meant for a melee fest’ …

I’m finding the Thruster Pack isn’t really that fun or useful. It’s not as engagement effecting as the HLS or Jetpack are and it absolutely needs Efficiency to be used if it’s intended to be mated with combat rather than the odd mini-boost that is subtlety helpful, but it’s not that much more helpful.

Yes you can use JP to just avoid a melee, PP-shot, vehicle and perhaps get that extra bit of distance to avoid damage/death from an explosion, but it doesn’t feel useful enough for those situations thanks to its short distance.

I wouldn’t mind it if we had a 1-time burn but one that was tap for current distance and then an ability to hold the button and burn a little bit longer for just a little more distance. Just another 5’ might be enough to make it feel more useful but as of right now, it’s just not feeling as fun as I hoped.

I like the new Jetpack’s mechanics and think HLS is near perfect for its defensive role, but for now, the TP isn’t feeling loveable.
