Let me make this perfectly clear. This armor ability is not even worth the 3 SP it costs, so to all of you who are considering getting this DON’T. I just bought it thinking that I would go as far as I would normally go in flood. Instead it does nothing but scoot you across the ground a few feet and that’s all.
I could go farther in a -Yoink!- hippity hop instead of using this thing! What the hell was the thought process for this thing and why don’t we have evade instead. Don’t know weather to be angry or confused that this thing was basically made to be useless anywhere else unless your probably in one of those gravity hill things, or just have very low gravity.
Completely agree here. Now I’m not saying that it should be buffed up to what it is in Flood, however if the matchmaking version and the Flood version could meet halfway I think then it would be pretty darn good.
I use it, and it works fine for me. It wont help you evade shots, the point is scooting behind cover, or maybe evading a rocket. Ive also gotten some great hijacks out of it by bullfighting a ghost in front of a wall and then jump packing over to it.
That said, i think i would rather have it go a little farther, but also stun you longer, making it more versatile, but not making it too powerful in the middle of a fight
I use it all the time, not the most useful AA, but absolutely the most balanced. It’s great for quickly getting back where you came, dodging grenades and getting behind cover.
What I mean by getting back where you came is if you run around a corner and there are 2 enemies looking at you, I just Thruster Pack and BAM! I’m around the corner again. I don’t have to turn around and sprint back, or slowly backpedal my way there. You can use it to go any direction at any time you need it.
It also has an excellent recharge rate, maybe 7 seconds.
its not meant for travel and if you use it in Big team you’re an idiot but for small medium maps its so good i have avoided death so many times because of it
I’ve been using it since I started and as long as you know how to use it properly it’s fine. Changing it so that it goes farther would make it a lot better though.
When I saw this AA i thought to myself wow. This is going to be the best AA. Nope it is crap. Honestly it does nothing. The thrust is no where near as powerful as it should be. And on top of that I cannot melee with it either. I was really hoping it would at least be somewhat of an evade like move but it really isn’t.
I’ve been using it a lot lately, and it’s pretty decent to be honest. My favorite thing to do is use it right before someone tries an assassination. Thrust to the side. They stand there like lolwut, and then you assassinate them.
It’s not as bad as people make it. Just takes some getting use to.

Thruster pack is one of the best abilities, but you have to learn how to use it correctly. I use it on almost every class and it constantly saves my life. I can dodge vehicles, snipers, wraith’s plasmas, nades, and even melees. I got a ninja early from it.
Just like the grenade launcher from Reach it has a learning curve.

Id say thats because its a toned-down evade, just like HL Shield is a toned-down armor lock, and like how jetpack is weaker, and camo is weaker.

then please explain to me how scooting about 2 feet to the right or left helps out? I have tried to use it to evade things like ghosts and rockets, but in the end the result is always the same.
It has saved me from death countless times. Use it to get cover when you need it. Halo is similar to Gears now where cover is key. No more run and gun style.
i always use the thruster pack in BTB maps with vehicles. when i have plasma nades and a ghost or a hog coming at me i stick it and thrust away and get a kill without getting splattered. it really useful if u use it right!
Personally, I really like it. I use it on my Infinty Slayer class with smaller maps. I cant count how many times its saved me on Haven. It lets you jet around corners quickly if you jump first and can let you pull off some crazy mid air meneuvers. Ive also used it to save myself from suicide a few times when I jumped off a ledge and was able to make a fast coarse correction to land on another platform.
