This is a cool idea, what if Halo 5: Guardians forced every player to spawn with a thruster pack? Every spartan in halo 4 had one already strapped to there back, and in the trailer for halo 5 guardians, they were definitely hinting at it.
So how would this work? well… like I said before, every spartan would spawn with it, and use it to get into combat faster and speed up game-play (the successor to sprint). It would also replace the jump we know and love with a more responsive, and higher jump like ability to make longer or higher up jumps across platforms.
We would also be able to press B while in the animation to perform a slide or while in the air, press the Melee Button, and perform a ground pound! It could also be used as it is in halo 4 for evading grenades and vehicles, but preferably a longer lunge and quicker too.
This feature would actually speed up game-play but also make the combat more engaging and more unique. It is implements the fair starts we NEED in a halo game, but improves it. This isn’t purely speculation since they shoved it in our faces when the guy in the “First Look” trailer began talking about old school halo, and fair starts. This could definitely be used strategically and competitively too.
One last thing… Take a look at a few of the screenshots of this map, tons of long jumps! way more than in halo 4 and they look much longer too!
(((THE LAST 2 PICTURES))
This has been brought up a couple times, and so far I have always thought it was a good idea. What I don’t like is the replacement of the jump. As cheesy as this may sound, I think that the jump is an integral part of Halo map movement. The one main game that took it away was Reach and I don’t think it worked very well (ODST did it too but it felt right in that game.)
It would benefit strafing, and as long as you story in first person while thrustering(?) it would add a lot to the gameplay I think. Plus I think it fits into the Halo sandbox better than sprint does.
The only issue I have is that I don’t know how it should work in terms of “reloading” and how many times we would be allowed to use it before it had a cooldown period.
I can see why people like this idea, but my friends and I do not. We found thrust to be one of the more over power AA’s Yup, you heard me! Thrust in the hand of someone good is SO dam powerful. Get’s you out of so many situations… nades, shotgun blast, sword etc It kills Strafing I think as well. Let’s you close the gap so quick on someone. Easy to get behind cover and so on. To me it is just as much if not maybe more of a “Get out of jail free card” then sprint. If you don’t think Thrust is good in H4, go watch some video’s or ask some of the better players. It’s crazy good!
We really don’t want it in.
This being said, if it is in, I just hope It’s a 1 use kind of thing and it has to fully recharge before you can use it again. I hope it takes a min to recharge as well or something. I think that would fix a lot of the problems.

That’s how it’s supposed to be. In the hands of a good player, Thruster Pack is a good thing. It’s not supposed to be casual or noob friendly. You learn how to use it effectively. And it most likely would be a one use, then recharge kind of ability. But the recharge time wouldn’t be a minute, that’s too long of a recharge time. I would say 10 - 20 seconds at most. It defeats the purpose of having it if you can only use it once every minute.
On a thread that I posted a while back about control and mechanic ideas for Halo 5,the default thruster pack topic came up. Only one person disagreed with the idea and they gave their reasons why. They felt that it was like sprint, people could get away, get out of jail free card, kill close quarter combat etc. I then provided these points that in my opinion and probably many others would prove this argument incorrect:
Point #1:
Sprint: Sprint allowed the player to run at an increased speed for great distances across the map.
Thruster: Thruster only allowed the player to “thrust” in a specific direction for a few feet/meters.
Point #2:
Sprint: Sprint was allowed to be used by the player even when the cool down wasn’t fully done.
Thruster: Thruster forced the player to wait until the cool down was complete.
Point #3:
Sprint: Sprint allowed you to lower your weapon to increase your run speed more than the player who’s weapon is raised and fighting.
Thruster: Thruster (Halo 5) SHOULD let you keep shooting while thrusting, and keep you in first person unlike Halo 4.
This will keep players from relying on it to run away from other players. If you are chasing someone down and they thrust then you can thrust too and still shoot them.
Point #4:
I suggested a 15 second cool down on the thruster pack on the thread I made. I based it off of the Arbiter’s Camo in the Halo 2 campaign on legendary. The camo only worked for about 5 seconds and had about a 15 sec recharge. The same could be said for the thruster pack because it’s effects are less than 5 seconds. On top of that, the average time in multiplayer when two players meet until the engagement ends is about 5 seconds. This means that about every 3 fights a player will be able to use the thruster.
Having something like a minute recharge would make the thruster redundant because you will almost never notice that it is there, and it won’t be very reliable to use. A 15 second recharge would keep it reliable but not make it crutch for players to get away.
I have said this in a few other thrust threads so here it is again.
IF thrusters are in they need a nice LONG cooldown.
After the cool factor wears off I can see thrusters becoming an annoyance though. I only see people trying to be cool and ninja me, thrust into cover, thrust into me, use it in almost every encounter, thrust all over the place trying to strafe like tryhards, and any other annoying things you could think of.
Annoying. That’s what I think it is.
In my opinion I think that it should die off with the rest of the AAs but if it is in then I will cry for a few days and then I will just play with it like everyone else…
Increased base jump height and speed is cool with me.
I think staying in 1st person while thrusting would be perfect!!!
