Pick ups are for halo 3 -Yoink!-, I would be devastated if our abilities are not permanent like on halo5
Okay, is it?
It is a picture with Chief with a black / silver object on his left arm.
I personally would like some actual confirmation of a video, or official person stating that it is indeed a grappling hook.
There have been rumours I know, but that could be a special melee weapon used instead of smashing with every weapon you hold.
It could also be hacking tool for hacking sentinels and prometheans to fight for you, as you thrust the spike into them. No I don’t want to go into lore stuff.
All I’m saying is that I want proper confirmation before we rush to any conclusions.
I wouldn’t say it’s confirmed, and personally, I can wait 20ish hours to see actual confirmation.
Would be cool if there was some sort of tactical pickup, or ability we can swap out on our wrist, especially if there was like PVE-only armor.
Would be even cooler if there were wrist rockets.

Yeah it looks pretty general. A blade would make more sense. We already have energy bayonet attachments in Halo 5

It looks like the two circles are retractable mechanisms. The blades would be a cool first melee projectile and then returns to punches after its used

Nice catch! Grappling hooks have me a little worried so I’d rather have this.
I don’t think it would be a grappling hook. Surely that small thing wouldn’t be able to carry chiefs weight. Might be something else but I’d be very suprised if it was a grappling hook. Would be cool though. Very excited to see what it is.

I think a blade would be much better then a grapple. I wonder what variations there would be with melee if it is indeed a blade.

Damn, I would say Halo 3’s pick ups were much better then just having a bunch of abilities at the same time. Halo 5 is one of the worst selling Halos, so I don’t know if we should really use that as a basis for the next game.
I think I’d rather them introduce some sort of knife mechanism over a grappling hook. I think being able to grapple around would break to much level design or they would have to limit it so much that why even bother.
that means assassinations confirmed

A blade or grapple would make for some cool assassinations. Maybe it’ll be like the melee for the commando in Battlefront 2 (He has a wrist mounted knife).

Assuming of course, that the 'hook won’t just be a Campaign-Only thing.
I’m only 50/50 on the ‘breaking level design’ aspect of topics like this myself, since if a map’s built with a feature in mind then it’s not breaking anything except for perhaps 1:1 remakes of older maps that aren’t made with said feature in mind. I kind of had another game in mind when I thought about a grapple hook though - you can’t just use it anywhere you want, only on set props in very specific areas. So if this is a 'hook, then maybe that’s how Infinite would handle it. Can only use it in specified areas and some maps would be built for that, others might exclude it entirely. Again, of course, assuming it’s both actually a grapple, and assuming that it won’t just be Campaign-Only.

Feel like if humans in the future can do handheld railguns, sentient AI and faster than light travel, creating some sort of strong cable shouldn’t be that difficult
Strange…some claim grappling hook, some claim throwing knife, some claim it’s some kind of ‘Assassin Creed’ knifes…nothing has been confirmed what the object is so not sure why OP is using click-bait to claim something has been confirmed.
Looks more like some kind of attachment screwed onto the arm, more likely looks like a grappling hook like some have claimed…and if I’d had to guess then I guess John 117 will probably get upgrades exclusive to the campaign but based on the design I suspect it would have to be activated internally since it doesn’t look like it has any physical controls.

My theory is that it’s a grappling hook, but it’s not supposed to bring chief towards things but rather things towards chief.
Think weapons or power ups that are out of reach, imagine how well this would work with hidden items. Also cause that thing is way too small to carry a super soldier.
Pretty sure this is a grappling hook. They were confirmed to be in the sandbox at one point during development, and besides, grappling hook sounds more like a map pickup than some kind of blade thing.
It’s not attached to his arm in some promo material, so I’m almost entirely certain its a grappling hook pickup, I suppose we’ll see tomorrow

Fair play
