Throwable Guns

So I was playing some Infinity Slayer the other day to test out the updated Assault Rifle and slightly after going on a killing frenzy I realized that my magnum was out and I was on my last mag of my AR. While scrambling around for a weapon to swap with I ran into another AR user and proceeded to “duel” with him. We both caught each other off guard and missed the majority of our shots. Except when we both had to reload, I was resigned to defeat. And then i thought to myself, why couldn’t I throw my gun at his face and kill him?

At this point, I feel like I am completely insane to want this kind of thing implemented into a halo game, But as a genetically enhanced super soldier I feel like this should be a viable option to get yourself out of a bind like the one I found myself in. Of course, balancing would be difficult but for some reason I feel like I kinda have it figured out.

As my idea stands, weapons should be able to be thrown to do damage equivalent to 75% of spartan health to weaken (but primarily finish off) unshielded enemies with a few drawbacks:

  1. Implement some kind of throwing animation similar to pitching a baseball that lasts for about 2 seconds(weapon is thrown, and then takes about 2 seconds to “cool-down” and take out secondary weapon).

  2. When preparing to throw the weapon there will be completely no aim-assist.

  3. When the weapon hits something, it breaks and becomes unusable due to the sheer force put into the toss.

  4. Have the weapon be affected by gravity to make the tosses more difficult at range.

Once again, I feel like I’m crazy, but I also would also very much like to see this “course of action” implemented in future Halo games in some capacity. Additionally, it’s not supposed to be a major plan of attack as much as it is just a way to put your empty weapon to some kind of use.

No. The last thing Halo needs is more gimmicks.

As long as it only finishes off weak enemies, I like this idea.

> No. The last thing Halo needs is more gimmicks.

Halo could use some innovation. This is innovative, unlike the CoD mechanics they’ve added.

Not really a gimmick. It’s a legitimate and new idea for a feature. A gimmick would be more like adding armor customization. If it affects gameplay, in my view it isn’t a gimmick.

The idea of people throwing weapons at each other is just silly, especially for the equivalent of 75% health. It would become the new noob combo. Throw the weapon, switch to BR, headshot.

Why would Spartans throw their weapons when they can throw their knives??

Sounds like you need a Tediore!

> Why would Spartans throw their weapons when they can throw their knives??

We really don’t need knife combos and knife spamming in Halo or we might as well call it the future CoD.

Empty metal things usually aren’t useful for very much except bludegoning and throwing. While 75% of health does seem a bit OP now that I think of it, the concept of being “boned” when you’re out of ammo for both your weapons in combat also seems a bit silly to me.

Innovative, but I’m sure has been an idea before and failed.

You could just melee your opponent. heck I think even throwing grenades does impact damage.

Sounds like an interesting idea. We need more people like you, thinking outside the box, then throwing guns at it.

As long as it is made so that no one can get killed by this mechanic, I am on board. I remember when I wanted to throw a magnum in the middle of a fire fight cause it ran out.

Your enemies won’t always be within melee range, and considering the recent spike in precision weapon usage, enemies are tending to stay out of that range. Additionally, it’s not supposed to be a major plan of attack as much as it is just a way to put your empty weapon to some kind of use.

We have throwable weapons, they’re called grenades.

It makes sense somewhere, yeah… but I think, this idea should stay in Borderlands.

We could also throw rocks or snowballs on enemies.

The only weapon where it would be really cool is the Energy Sword.

LOL

Last I knew in cod you could throw a knife…how is this actually innovative?

Hows this :)77

When you run out of ammo for any weapon, you are able to throw it at the person, but only to break their shields (on fully shielded person).

I think it’s an interesting last resort. No one hit kills unless the bleedthrough is great enough.

As far as I can tell, discarding your empty, useless weapon into someone’s face isn’t really a widely implemented option; Nor is it the same thing as a throwing knife. It may actually be in a game somewhere, but to my personal knowledge, it isn’t.

I wanna throw my hammer at somebodys face, and then that the hammer creates it’s shockhwave. It could be like a shockwave granade!
