I don’t understand how nerfing melee a on all the weapons solves the mangler problem. I feel like they ruined a bunch of weapons just because of one.

Is that for real? They’ve made a different melee damage between social and ranked??!? I really don’t understand how nerfing a weapon that didn’t need nerfed could result in the entire weapon sandbox being overhauled just to accommodate that change.

Strangely enough this is how it was in Halo 3. The BR was a 3 hit beatdown in all modes except MLG where it was 2 hit beatdown.

It makes the BR less of a utility weapon so even the AR had its uses in H3 and it was generally pathetic. Only good at close range to bamboozle someone with their BR out.

I agree with the change as I think the two hit beatdown is essential for ranked but it also saves social players from getting absolutely trodden on by the BR. If you get within range then the BR will lose.

That’s an interesting perspective on casual vs. ranked BR melee. Makes sense!

I’ll admit that I think the melee damage was initially a bit high considering that anyone with an AR could sneeze in your direction then smack you for a quick kill. But maybe that has more to say about the AR.

Wow; the change feels completely illogical to me. To have a different melee damage between playlist and between weapons just seems like an absolutely bizarre way to ‘fix’ a slight issue with one weapon.

This is technically true but is also misleading.

MLG was a fundamentally different game mode compared to anything else in the game - the maps were all customized, base movement speed was increased, and base damage was increased, for example.

All the other ranked modes had the exact same game balancing as social.

If Infinite had a bunch of ranked modes and only the current HCS-style mode had the different balancing, then it would be fair to say “this is how it was in Halo 3”.
