Thread Megathread- The Issues of Halo 4

This thread is not for crying or complaining, it’s for compiling as much of the problems players on these forums have with Halo 4, linking to appropriate threads for more in depth conversations and explanations and talking like polite human beings about said issues. I am tired of reading thousands of unique threads and 343i can surely not listen to them all, so I wanted to make it simple- what does the Waypoint community (which is only a small portion of the Halo community, but the Halo community is in an all time low population-wise for a reason…) want Halo to be?

This may be a long list, and while Halo 4 has it’s flaws it’s still a great game and all of these points are not mine. They are decided by the Waypoint community in the Polling Booth. If you have an issue which you find pressing enough to add to the list, head to the Polling Booth and prove to that it is (lets say, at least 75% agreement and 15 votes) and I will update the OP and add it.

GENERAL

CAMPAIGN

  • lack of story explanation for non book readers in not good (example: the Covenant, the Didact’s motives)
    -(UNOFFICIAL) we want in-game scoring
    -(UNOFFICIAL) Terminals should be view-able in game.

MULTIPLAYER

SPARTAN OPS and/or FIREFIGHT

CUSTOM GAMES

FORGE

THEATER

  • (UNOFFICIAL) the community wants to be able to film and take screenshots in all game modes- poll in progress, but I think no one will disagree

Keep in mind the list is not nearly in it’s final shape. Hopefully people will support this thread instead of creating a thousand others because honestly that doesn’t help anyone. The list may also currently be objective to my opinion and the biggest threads active at the moment, so be sure to help me out!

Post any problem you want addressed and link to a thread proving it’s worth, and let’s fill this list up.

(UNOFFICIAL)= will probably appear on the list but needs community confirmation in a poll or a thread
RED= can still be fixed for Halo 4
BLUE= directed at future titles

So apparently I’m not part of the community as I disagree with everything except the Theatre and Forge parts.

And I wouldn’t mind if we had both Spartan Ops and Firefight.

This topic looks much more relevant than that known issues topic.

Sure, why not. Here’s my general issues:

-weapons deload quickly
-shields take a long time to start recharging
-lack of vehicle variety
-Covie weapons (particularly the Carbine) could use a clear blue scope like in previous games
-Ghost and Wraith autoaim/magnetism need to be toned down
-Ghost splatter can be unreliable when using boost

Here’s my Campaign issues:

-no flashlight
-no scoring
-no skull hunting
-no in-game terminals
-lack of marine support
-lack of in-game NPCs
-AI spend a lot of time shooting at corpses

-Gauss Hog has only appeared 1 time and was strongly affected by MP nerfs. If it wasn’t possible to board the Lich early/without killing enemies, I’d be very frustrated operating it

-Jetpack was strongly affected by MP nerfs. It’s common for players to initially have a hard time boarding the Mammoth

-vehicles tend to explode at certain points to deter easier combat (i.e. Banshee on Requiem, Ghost/Hog on Reclaimer). I find it excess and artificial. In Bungie’s Halo games, you weren’t forced out of vehicles, they merely setup an obstacle that could often be bypassed

-retaining collateral damage, albeit less severe than in Reach, reminds me that I’m in the game and is also artificial and excess

-it’s no longer possible to do air-assassinations on Elites

-AI have better death animations, but the rest of their animations leave a lot to be desired. Spartan-IVs can sometimes be seen diving then snapping right back to their original location, I believe that’s due to an incomplete animation. In rare cases where kamikaze Grunts survive their attack, they will lack movement animations of any sort. When you’re in a Ghost and confronted by Elites, they can board you from quite a distance, it feels unnatural. In general, the Elites feel like their animation has been sped up rather than shortened. There is also a lack of animations. In previous Halo games, the AI could express joy over killing you, the AI could point you out to his allies, and the AI could be seen standing over/kneeling dead comrades

-AI frequently run into pathfinding issues. Also, in previous Halo games, when the AI were brought out of their spawn zone, they would completely lose pathfinding. In Halo 4, they retain it and this has frustrated what I’ve wanted to do with them. AI frequently deload when bypassed, or when lured out of their spawn zone

That’s not true, it is a matter of polls. And again, this is only a small part of the community. I took some of the requests that I don’t agree with because they were voted by the community (descoping).

That’s a great list (even if it’s long) but as I’ve said I will not add anything that isn’t proven to be desired by most of the fans. I will add some of these as (UNOFFICIAL) though since I o believe most people will agree.

General
-Huge lack of original Halo soundtracks.
-There are two disks, and the only reason I have the second disk is to download matchmaking which should have already been on it.
-Where the hell is Firefight?
-Where the hell is Campaign Theatre?
-Lamest Halo main menu, no lamest video game main menu I have ever seen.
-Not one little small, secret message or thank you to Bungie.

Campaign
-Did you really have to make the Chief’s helmet like that?
-Spartan IV’s are way too overhyped, and overused.
-Storyline is horrible, mostly because of Karen Traviss and her -Yoink- excuse for a Halo title, Kilo5.
-Cortana’s hips are fatter, and her face looks nothing like Cortana.
-Humanity’s level of technology, and the amount of Forerunner technology in the galaxy is starting to annoy me.
-Umm, I thought that the Forward Unto Dawn was a Frigate?
-No ODST’s.
-Spartan-IV’s all look the same.
-No Elite Allies.
-Where the hell is the Arbiter?
-Where the hell is Half-jaw?
-This is Bungie’s fault, but no Sgt. Johnson.
-Stale repetitive gameplay.
-Super small maps with almost no exploration. I can’t even jump on top of some rocks to see.
-Why the hell did Cortana die?
-“You won’t have to read the books to understand the storyline”, My -Yoink-.
-After all we went through with Elites in H2 and H3, after all the “finish the fight” hype and struggles, there are no elite allies and the War is back on like that.
-Is that walking frog supposed to be a Grunt?
-Where the hell are Buggers?
-Where the hell are Plasma Rifles?
-Where the hell are Hornets?
-Gravity Hammer and no Brutes? Of course.
-You add all these cool, new, uber-weapons and then you forget the Sentinel Beam? WTF?
-Why are elites speaking Japenese? Even in CE and Reach they spoke mostly Sangheili, but still said a few things in English.
-Zealots still aren’t gold.
-Way to few Marines.
-Did the Marines just get back from trick or treating? What the hell are they wearing?
-AI still suck.
-Pelican looks horrible.
-Qucik Time Events.
-Worst boss battle ever.
-No Revenant or Spectre.
-No Scarab.
-Way too short.
-Didn’t even set foot on the Halo ring.
-Still no dual weilding.
-Cortana was upgrading my armor for years and I don’t even have a flashlight anymore?
-No flood at all? Really?
-Why is Chief slower and his jumps lower?
-Easter eggs suck. Unique dialog here and there, and some useless hidden weapons crates. Whoop dee do.

Multiplayer
-Many weapons are OP.
-Ordnance drops.
-Random weapon spawns.
-Unbalanced maps. Yeah, my nerfed Guass Hog is going to be really useful against that tank.
-Weapon spawns are marked.
-No Hornet.
-Only one map remake.
-Matchmaking is part of canon.
-No playable elites.
-A million different perks and armor upgrades.
-Specializations.
-Custom Loadouts.
-Support Upgrades.
-Tactical Packages.
-Sprint.
-1-130 no skill rank system.
-No visible ranks.
-Announcer sounds weird now.
-You get a medal for EVERY DAMN THING YOU DO.
-Match is one by points not kills.
-You can win a match because you had a whole bunch of assists instead of kills.
-Death cams.
-Instant respawn.
-Join in progress.
-No friendly fire.
-Pistol is even weaker than in Reach.
-The Machine Gun turret’s bullets look like giant sparkles from 4th of July Sparklers.
-Vehicles are now useless and weak. It feels like the Warthog is made of Legos.
-Flood doesn’t look like Flood.
-Rotating Playlists.
-You must earn emblems.
-Armor is way too extravagant.

Spartan Ops
-I thought it would just be some fun little missions. Instead, its a second campain with a worse storyline.
-Thorne, Miller, and Palmer, if you don’t I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking., I’ll cut you into peices.
-“EGGHEADS EGGHEADS EGGHEADS”. Yeah. Go ahead and call the smartest people of your race, who built your awesome armor eggheads.
-“BAD GUYS BAD GUYS BAD GUYS”. Will you stop calling them that already?
-“TOYS TOYS TOYS”. Yes Palmer. Our highly sophisticated and lethal weapons are just toys.
-Palmer is horrible.
-Dr. Halsey isn’t bad.
-Super small maps at first.
-Stale and repetitive fights. Fuel Rod Generals, Jackal Snipers, Sword Zealots, and a million Hunters.
-You die so easily and then just respawn a million times.
-AI S-IVs are immortal.
-The most important and strongest UNSC ship is under seige and I see 5 lousy marines defending it.
-Harvester is barely used.
-Why name it “Season 1” if you won’t even make a 2nd?

Here’s a vid showing inconsistent Ghost splatter. I’m not sure if it’s the Elite or the Ghost that’s causing the issue. I’m pretty sure if I get out of the Ghost then get back in, the issue is resolved. I was actually trying to take advantage of this case of inconsistency so I could launch the Elite out of the map.

One more general issue:

-the UI is clunky, not very user friendly. It’d have been nice to have an in-game manual that’d help with navigation. Hell, I still don’t know how to change teams in Customs and it took me a while to get used to pressing Y to access file saving options. It’d be nice to be able to return to the main menu when accidentally selecting Resume Campaign like in previous games.

Finally, when reverting from the Campaign pause menu, sometimes the game records your last input, which is typically A. So you often jump immediately after the revert, which can get annoying.
