Thoughts?

dont you guys find that halo 5 and halo wars are sorta… off? Like a bit cartoony? Don’t get me wrong! I love playing them but it just seem like it went down the same path that mass effect: andromeda, and… big heads XD so I’d like to hear what you guys think!

I didn’t get that impression from those two games at all.

halo 5 a little bit yes just because of bright or vibrant colors. something about the texture or something just pops out. halo wars not at all.

Nope, not at all. Interesting that you would think that though. That’s a new one

I mean, halo 4 look nice but 5 seems a bit funky XD like the gravity hammer sound threw me off XD and things just don’t seem like home, ya know?

I get H5, but HW? Not at all.

Yes, I most definitely understand what you mean. To compare, Halo: Reach had a really serious, gritty theme to it, and it’s characters were much more serious and ‘heavy’ than those in Halo 5.

The glossy armour needs to go, the music needs to change and blood, death sounds and under-suits must return.

Yeah I said this from Day 1 of Guardians. Looks like cartoon Power Rangers. All those completely random helmets etc. with stupid colours. I mean what the hell are the pink, purple and other garish cartoon looking armour colurs.

Hoping we have Halos 4/Reach look back for Halo 6

Not really no. There are aspects of cartooniness in basically every Halo game. I don’t believe that has changed.

Not at all. No one’s face was tired.

It’s primarily because of the way by which the stories are told and the way by which they look and sound. Halo Wars, aside from the fact that the gameplay pieces look like cartoonish looking miniature figurines, was told in a similar vein to a Marvel superhero movie. Likewise, Halo 5 looked like a power rangers movie and was told like one too.

Also, Halo 4 was REALLY off as well. Not only did it look, feel, and sound like a completely different science fiction universe, the characters were really dull and much of the smaller plot elements such as the Didact’s poor military performance (and him allowing the UNSC Infinity to escape Requiem), Del Rio being head of the UNSC Infinity, Chief disobeying a direct order and nobody doing anything about it, Lasky letting the chief go without getting a court marshall (not that I disliked that moment, it was just off), the entire Librarian scene, the halo 4 terminals contradicting the forerunner books, master chief’s sudden armor change while in cryo sleep, the sudden emergence of the Storm Faction without any explanation at all (in-game), etc. don’t add up in the grand scheme of things.

My thoughts its colorfull RAINBOWS T rating! R.I.P BLOOD!

I’m guessing they tried to make it more colorful because at least from what I heard was that halo reach was very dull, I heard the word “grey” a lot. Now they make it more colorful and people think it is too cartoonish? I mean I don’t mind the graphics in halo 4 or 5, I find them better than reach because again… grey. Gameplay is a whole other story though, I mean the HUD and such? movement? aiming? gameplay? not a fan. Don’t mind the graphics in the newer games for campaign but as far as playing a 1v1 2v2 or 4v4? I think I’ll stick to H2 and 3. Those are what I call “halo”.

The big heads thing really bothers me. To the point where, even though I really like Halo 5, 4 is sort of the definitive look for how I think of everyone and everything in the game, from armor to the way guns look and sound.

If nothing else, I hope they go back to more proportioned heads in Halo 6.

Big heads?

Halo has always felt cartoony to me. But that’s kind of ok. I have no negative feelings towards cartooniness.

I don’t have negative feelings towards cartooniness either. The old game Cel Damage was as cartoony as it gets and I loved that game! I think that the Covenant in Halo CE were very animated, colorful, and a tad cartoony but that’s the closest I’d say Halo has ever been to that

All of the Spartans have proportional heads if they were average sized people. But because Spartans are not average sized, they are noticeably taller, their heads suddenly seem too large. Especially when you take into consideration that their height is augmented and not the result of natural growth.

So, as an example look at Sarah Palmer when she’s standing next to Lasky in Halo 4. Her height seems natural because her head is in proper proportion comparable to Lasky’s head. Now look at her again in the cutscene between mission 1 and 2 in Halo 5. All of the Spartans’ heads appear gigantic because I think they used direct motion capture for all of the characters regardless of their size in comparison to each other.

come to think about it, it also looks like they just did a flat ratio increase to all Spartans. Because John is pretty big in 4 when placed next to Sarah, but in 5 all of the Spartans are pretty much the same size also.

(o_O ) I don’t know why this bothers me so much.

If you’re talking about the scene where Halsey is handed off from Osiris, I think Palmer was simply closer to the camera. Every other comparison that I could find looks pretty normal.

What more bothers me about Palmer is that in Halo 5 she looks more Asian than in Halo 4, or even the comic book depictions of her. That was really jarring for me.

The lighting engine makes it look brighter but the overall tone isn’t like that in my opinion.
