So with the current flight ending and many newcomers (like myself) not having played, I’m curious as to what the people who did get to play thought. How were the mechanics? How was gunplay? Did you like or dislike any changes that were made? And most importantly, was it fun? Just trying to live vicariously through people.

Did you get invited for the next flight?
I personally really enjoyed the beta. I think they addressed a lot of complaints people had from Halo 5 in a good way. The movement felt good, guns had good feedback. My biggest dislike was the Bullfrog, Halo Infinites shotgun replacement. The range was weird and the damage output felt weak. A headshot with it at close range was not a 1 hit kill. Outside of that, most of the weapons seemed really good (Though I am sure there will be hammer complaints. That thing was slow).
All in all I really enjoyed it and look forward to future flights and the full game!
So it was a Technical Test and to be excepted there were bugs and there was quite a few of them. As for your questions the test showed that the game could have GREAT potential but the bugs showed that it isn’t quite there yet(mind you I believe that the build is 3 months old?). The mechanics were fine. The gunplay was solid. Comparing it to Halo 5 I like all of the changes except possibly the mini map, I wish there was an extermination medal (would of had 3+ but a medal never popped), the nightmare medal(25 kills without dying) was sweet and I wish I could’ve gotten a 30 kill or higher one (most kills I got in a match was 28), my buddy and I were disappointed that there wasn’t assassination animations(I normally don’t go for them but it’s neat to have in the game), the grapple shot was fun to mess with, I was using an elite series 2 on PC and at times aiming could feel just off but it more than likely mean I just need to actually start playing more halo again, the battle pass was interesting but I think enjoy more of what’s in MCC’s seasons compared to what the test was showing as I mostly just need to look like Chief and I’m golden, and I’m not sure how I feel about the weapon spawns each match as some maps would have BR’s and Commando’s and others would just have Commando’s or BR’s but for the power weapons I was fine with the randomness each map (basically what I’m saying is I always want a BR lol). Overall I enjoyed the test it had it’s ups and downs but shows what could be something really special and showed even slaying bots by 30-40+ could be blast.
But OP I hope your signed up to an Insider and hopefully you can get in on the next test/beta so you can see for yourself.
Overall, I enjoyed it! The gameplay felt like a nice blend of classic and modern Halo. The movement was very fluid like in 5, but the map control and felt classic. The vertically of Recharge and Bazar reminded me of some Reach maps. I also thought they were very diverse looking. Speaking of looks, I love this games artstyle it reminded me a lot of Reach and graphically I think the game looked good even on an original xbox one. That said, I did notice some pop in especially when loading up the academy and there was some texture flickering in actual matches. When it comes down to these matches I had a lot of fun! Thought most of the weapons were good and the bots were good too! There is a few things, I would tweak. First the bots, while they are good, they are not perfect. There was a few times were they would just stop shooting and stand there. I also caught them jumping in place a few times. The spartan bots also seemed easier than the odst bots. They seemed to missed more shots and grenade throws and I also think they need to go for power weapons more instead of just the regular pick ups. Also, just about every game ended in a steaktacular. I also think some of the weapons can be tweaked slightly. I think the heatwave, bulldog, and pulse carbine need slight damage buffs. The recoil on the commando needs to be reduced. The sniper scope needs to come up quicker and the gravity hammer needs to swing faster. All the other guns felt really fun to use and so did the equipment, especially the grappling hook! For pvp, I had a blast, but I would change the radar back to how it originally functioned because the way it is now the discourages players from sprinting and it makes it really easy to get behind someone for a back smack. For the customization, I thought it was good! There is a lot of variety of all the things that can be mixed and matched. The first day of the flight, I did come across a glitch were no of my changes were saved. The second day this was mostly gone but it still happened a few times, like I would have circ equipped, but butler would talk instead. There was also a glitch were butler’s texture would not appear, and when switching prosthetics it didn’t always register the change right away. For some quality of life changes, I think we should be able to go to the customization menu in between games and we should be able to rotate our spartan when looking at body type and equipping prosthetics. So, that’s everything I could think of and overall I had a blast playing it and I can’t wait for the full release!
IMO the direction is perfect, it feels like a turbo-charged old school halo game without all of the awkward additions from the recent halo games. Guns all feel great although the heatwave gun feels weird to use and sniping feels harder. Aim assist is turned down a lot (it is still there) which is why a lot of people are complaining they can’t aim all of a sudden - however a lot of us on console believe it to be more than enough assist as it is, but more pvp cross-platform testing needs to be done before that conversation should take place really. I am also a fan of the map designs and powerups. The gameplay is honestly the most fun I have had in halo ever, it is fast paced but no way near as fast as COD for example. Very addicting, I’ve played like 200+ matches in this test. Series S having 120fps mode available is also fantastic.
The XP gains and battle pass that we have experienced is very worrying to me - it doesn’t feel rewarding and buying a battle pass seems like it will be mandatory to feel a sense of achievement from multiplayer. This is only from what is provided in the flight though so more might be added. The XP boosts are also on a timer countdown the moment you activate it instead of boosting experience by games completed which feels cheap too - the reward system seems to be a big psychological game to get the player to spend as much money as possible rather than obtaining rewards through achieving things in game. It is understandable that this model is required for a free to play game but personally I feel like it is too glaring and greedy in it’s current state and should be toned down for the benefit of the overall multiplayer experience. A non-battle pass experience progression/reward system needs to be added.
There are definitely bugs and graphic issues in the flight like weird purple textures and people go FLYING when meleed, some crashes too but these can be fixed
overall Its amazing, just needs polishing
I thought the flight went very well. There were the bugs that 343 warned you about and some other minor issues. Going into it with an open mind and understanding that these were going to pop up, helped a lot. The game felt great and flowed really well. It had a classic Halo feel with a lot of cool updates. The maps all played well and the guns felt balanced. Im looking forward to future flights and the game itself.
I enjoyed it… the movement and equipments and guns felt really good… though I couldn’t enjoy it as much because there was no mouse support on Xbox and I am not very good with controller. can’t wait for BTB and vehicles!!
I played on both Series X and PC and for the most part enjoyed it. I haven’t played Halo 5 in a while but Infinite feels like a mix of Halo 5 and Halo 3 which IMHO is a good thing. It definitely brought back some ‘Halo Classic’ feelings (Halo 2 and 3 were my most played in the series). I enjoyed all 3 maps and I think they all played well.
I had a few issues (which were to be expected)
- I had connectivity issues until maybe late Friday night on both console and PC - I had to reinstall completely on console to get it to work. - PC needs to be better optimized. My GPU is not the greatest (1660ti) but it still lagged behind most other modern games I play. FPS seemed to stay in high 40s no matter what settings I tried. There also seemed to be a bit of choppiness as well unrelated to FPS. - I’m not a fan of the progression in the Battle Pass. It feels really slow (Admittedly the only game I normal get Battle Passes in right now is Destiny 2). Maybe if they add a TON of more challenges it’ll be better but I hope they rethink progression because I can see it pushing people to buy levels way too much. - XP boosts need tweaking…countdown start immediately regardless of what you’re doing.Overall I’m still positive and looking forward to it…I just hope they rework MP progression.
I enjoyed it. Had a blast beating the tar out of the bots Friday afternoon, then by Saturday I had a negative K/D. Took a break came back Sunday afternoon and had a better time bringing down the bots. Like others have said, the gunplay felt good. I will probably play multiplayer more often once the game releases due to the online bots and the gameplay being better (subjectively). I felt I could really use whatever weapon I wanted and have a good time with it. I felt the XP system could use a couple of changes, like XP after every match. I feel 25/50 for a loss and 100 for a win would at least let folks feel like they were making progress on a battle pass, without messing up the balqnce too much. The real question would be how long the seasons are intended to be, as weekly challenges will be added each week.
All in all, I had fun playing the techinal flight this weekend. Found a few bugs that I need to report, and need to check on some of the reports I already filed. Looking forward to the next flight or launch, if I am not that lucky!
Amazing, so happy I got to experience it.
Weapons need work, and the interface needs some serious tlc. Can’t wait for the next one!

Not yet, next flight won’t be for a few weeks
Tons of POTENTIAL.
- Art direction is Bungie like, I’m floored.
- Music is fantastic and unique, evokes emotion.
- Base mechanics feel like a true evolution of classic Halo.
- Sandbox.
- Armor unlocks.
- It looks, sounds and feels like HALO.
- Poor performance on PC.
- Aiming feels heavy and doesn’t “feel” good.

I hope I can get in too, I’m an old Halo 3 vet, so I am really looking forward to Infinite! And thank you for all your feedback, I appreciate it
It was good. It doesn’t seems a Halo changed to appeal other users but a classic Halo evolved to feel fresher.
I’m not giving any judgement about performance, UI, graphics and other stuff, too early build, but I like the foundaments of the game.
What I DID NOT like and it’s really worrying me is the aiming (I play on PC with controller) I was truly hoping to have an experience more like MCC on PC, instead it feels too much as Halo 5.
This could be a true game breaker for me, sadly. I played a lot of Halo 5 for years casue it was the last iteration of the saga, but once I switched to a gaming pc and I get back to MCC (since H5 is not on PC) the difference in fun and enjoment of the game is on another level only because of this. Aiming feels like a chore in H5 and felt taxing in Infinite (even if not as bad as h5).
People say it’s the acceleration, other say it’s the auotaim. I don’t know if it’s auto aim, acceleration or whatever, I only know that on MCC If I want to hit someone my thumbs react accordingly and the same gesture on Infinte and H5 doesn’t work. And this to me is plain wrong, because it doesn’t happen in any other game.
I played Doom Eternal with my controller and it felt perfectly fine, I don’t know why Halo can’t be the same.
