In Halo 5 it was nice to see a bit of a return to form, the music was more fitting for the franchise, there were some great set pieces, backdrops and beautifully imagined worlds in the campaign. My thoughts on the franchise heading towards Halo 6 and the forerunner saga’s conclusion:
@ Please can we stop with these craptastic quick-time style endings where the player has no involvement other than to watch their Spartan clambering towards a pedestal?
@ Please can we start seeing some dedicated objective playlists? Under 343 it does seem like objective type modes have taken somewhat of a backseat, no more bomb, no more oddball and very little flag.
@ Please can we ditch the frantic COD style run and gun gameplay in the multiplayer? It’s so easy to frikken die in Halo 4 and 5 multiplayer and this is my single biggest gripe with 343 Halo. Just play Halo 3 or Reach and then play Halo 4 or 5 and it’s like they are a world away from each other.
@ REQ system. I’m sorry but I’m one of the ones who thinks it’s a bit of a pointless addition. It’s nice to get these armour unlocks, customisation is one of Halo’s great things. But it’s better to earn these customisations through achievements such as completing missions on certain difficulties or in set times or reaching certain milestones in multiplayer. Setting challenges for players and giving the rewards that way, rather than the REQ systems ‘luck of the draw’ approach.
@The gun sound effects are pretty cool in this game but when the ammo makes contact with an enemy it’s like they are being hit by potato pellets - more substance to the ammunition when it connects would be nice.
@ Halo 5’s legendary ending has set us up nicely for Halo 6.
Cortana taking control of a Halo ring? I’d like to see more of Blue Team and it would be fitting to end the saga with Chief and Blue Team taking Cortana down. EDIT - also I thought Blue Team were supposed to be dead? Will they perish in Halo 6? This is one of the reasons Halo Reach has one of my favourite games, killing off lead characters gradually really made the story great and proved Spartans were not infallible.
In my opinion, I like the ADS. Adds more realism to the game. (And yes, I hate CoD.)
I know everyone hates microtransactions. I’m not a fan of them either and will not be buying any in H5. But, if it’s what they are doing to give us all the map packs for free, I’m willing to make that trade off. Since the REQ system only works in Warzone and it is indeed optional, and fairly easy, in my experience, to earn them just by playing the game. I do agree that helmets and armour, at least some/most of them, should be unlockable like they were in rhe past. If they were to sell map pack DLC for Halo 5 or 6, I would not buy them. Or, they would have to be on sale at a really good price. Because with Halo 4, those who did buy the maps rarely go to use them after the first 60 days of their release. I know why that was the case. But at the end of the day, the most annoying thing for me personally is playing in the same maps repeatedly. And that feeling is worse when I pay for maps that never show up or have their own play list.
343 has already proven to me twice that they o not know how to do map rotation in mp. In Halo MCC they still had the same maps show up for voting even though everyone has ALL the maps.
Whatever their issue with maps is, they need to hurry up and release new Warzone maps. Three just doesn’t cut it. And yes, I know about this weekend’s new maps release. Still remains to be seen if 343 will fix their map rotation algorithm.
Reach had a lot of that same style if you’re referring to the addition of sprinting. But I agree with the Halo 3 mention.
As for the REQ system I don’t mind it but would’ve loved a mix of what it is PLUS unlocking stuff via achievements. As it is now you usually just get an emblem for reaching a certain rank or finishing a commendation
Pro’s of Bungie’s Halo:
- The art direction for all of the games especially reach was amazing.
- The gameplay was amazing.
- The music was so perfect and iconic.
- The armour designs were so Halo and made the Spartans look protected.
- The maps were memorable, fun and super well designed.
- The sound effects didn’t get annoying after a week.
- The particle effects were beautiful.
- Campaign missions were so fun to play.
- The interaction with the fans and the opinions of the fans mattered to bungie.
- The Double XP weekends in Halo 3.
Pro’s of 343’s Halo:
- The acknowledgment of non game cannon.
(That is literally all I can think of right now, I’ll edit this part of I think of more. Not hating.)
The Con’s of Bungie’s Halo:
- The lack of acknowledgment of non game cannon.
- The invention of armour abilities.
The Con’s of 343’s Halo:
- The complete disregard to the opinions of the fans and little to no interaction with them.
- The awful art direction.
- The terrible armour designs.
- The needless removal of features and game types.
- The attempts to try make Halo e-sports focused.
- The awful story in Halo 5. Blame this on the lead writer.
- The attempt to improve what was a mistake by bungie in the first place, Spartans abilities.
- The lack of information we are given in bulletins or cannon coffers compared to Bungie weekly updates.
- The removal of customisation options.
- The forcing of game types and features people hate on them.
- The removal of playable elites.
- The lack of explanation in games as to what is happening and why certain characters are where they are.
This is all I can think of right now, I’ll edit this post with more pros and cons for both Bungie and 343’s Halo when I think of them. People should note im not hating on either studio, it’s just the honest opinion of a player who loves halo and wants it to shine.
Another thing in this game is it feels like the campaign is completely disconnected from the multiplayer. There are no campaign commendations as there were in Reach, so unless you’re actually interested in the story - there’s no point in playing it.

I can help fill out those for you!
Pro’s of 343’s Halo:
- Competitive community played a part in its design
- Better balanced starting weapon in MP
- Balanced weapon sandbox
- Movement to juke opponents
- Map design allowing various jumps and angles for teamwork and tactics
- A fun CTF gametype in matchmaking that’s not MLG version since CTF Pro in Halo:CE
- Commendations and unlockables
- Interesting dialect and enemy AI characters
Con’s of Bungie’s Halo:
- Disregard to competitive community and casual-competitive like myself
- Lack of a balanced starting weapon in its Default form and main playlists
- Many glitches and exploits in H:CE and Halo 2
- Useless weapons in the sandbox
- Introduction of Equipment drops in Halo 3
- Introduction of Armor Abilities and eventually Loadouts
- Ranking system locks and exploits
Don’t be so biased. Halo 5 is a good game. Bungie’s direction was a downward spiral. 343’s newest Halo is what Halo 3 could have been with better visuals and sound obviously.

I Literally couldn’t agree more.
Each company had its faults. I personally like the direction 343 is taking it but I may be in the minority on that.
