Thoughts & Opinions: Specializations

What are your thoughts/opinions on the newly announced “Specializations”?

IMO They look pretty sweet, and it makes sense too. Plus all the new armor looks pretty awesome (and weird). All the perks and stuff like that IMO will add variety to the game in general, making it a more personal experience.

And for the people who are mad about it, 343i is trying to make the game BETTER, so it doesn’t get repetitive like CoD. Do you want to see a new Halo 3 or a new Halo game?

RizeoftheFallen

I think Drivers and their Gunners are going to like this and Camping Snipers are going to hate talkative Stalkers.

I think there are things in the game far more problematic than specializations.

As for your second question, I would like to see a new Halo game that retains its former arena-shooter characteristics.

I think they aren’t much of a problem. They may not feel like Halo and they may be CoD-ish, but you have to either adapt or just don’t.

They aren’t giving much of an advantage and 343i says they are balanced. They are the ones testing the game and they most likely know better then we do.

(by the way, this wasn’t pointed towards OP, this is pointed towards the people who complain  )

So to make the game better and not repetitive like CoD, they added in a game mechanic which is almost identical to the perks system from CoD.

Anyone see the irony?

I think specializations are unecessary, but whatever. I also think there are plenty of changes to be made without stripping Halo of what’s always helped it to stand apart form other games of the genre. Personally I would prefer it if all these bells and whistles were in a social playlist and the ranked playlist was more like 2 and 3 in that it focused on an even playing field and the golden triangle–but that’s just me.
I’ll definitely be playing classic. In all my years of playing Halo (been a huge fan since CE) I’ve never played MLG and don’t know a whole lot about it, so if there is an MLG playlist now may be the time for me to check it out.

You have a good point… Are you saying they will begin to come repetitive if they use CoD’s mechanics? Maybe they will add even more stuff in Halo 5?

Agreed. As for myself, I will probably be playing some of Classic and Infinity Slayer. Hopefully 343i doesn’t add too many playlists like Reach.

I don’t think there anything special in terms of what they do. I find a majority of them are to help players who have been lacking awareness, communication and overall being a good player. I don’t see them helping good players.

If CoD is repetitive and 343i adopts some of CoDs features it to reason that Halo 4 will eventually become repetitive. So yeah, I am.

They should focus more on making the gameplay the best it can be rather than trying to attract a larger audience by making the game play like its closest rival.

Personally, if they announced that the specialisations system had been dropped it would make me very happy. They don’t need it. Halo 3 and Reach didn’t have it and they were both awesome.

Yeah. I took a break from Reach around the time 343 did their TU. When I came back I was so confused. Figuring out where to go was like doing my taxes. I understand if 343 wanted to make changes, but they shouldn’t have had those changes alongside the old stuff–the old stuff should have been thrown out. “these are the changes, love it or lump it!” Instead they tried to make everyone happy (which is completely naive) and ended up splintering the community like crazy. Hopefully they’ve grown a little backbone and will stick to their guns. There’s enough division in the community between classic, mlg, vanilla, and now infinity.

One can hope.

In my opinion they are making Halo 4 less Halo.

I’m really looking forward to H4, but I feel the series peaked with H3.

I think they look great, Halo needs change.

Though the one that lets people see you when you so much as attack them… not so much.

Have you played the new August Update? They removed the Noble & Defiant playlists, Action Sack, and now there is only ONE Anniversary playlist. I REALLY hope 343i sticks to the basics in Halo 4, and not add pointless playlists like Super Slayer, Multi-Team, The Arena, ect. It will just make the game much easier to comprehend in general.

Sadly, I never went back to Reach’s mm after that. And now I’m trying to read/watch/play all canon in chronological order before H4 comes out so I’m not playing any multiplayer.
Today I have to read TFoR to chapter 23 and then maybe a Halsey journal entry or two and then I begin the Reach Campaign.

I am actually just about to read Cryptum in the forerunner series. I probably won’t read all the books, but I will play all of the games in chronological order before Halo 4.

I’m a little torn on specializations. On the one hand, I love the idea of allowing players to taylor their spartan in a way that suits their playstyle. But the idea of implementing these customizations as unlockables has me a little worried.

In Halo Reach, players could select loadouts based on their preferences, but all players had access to the same loadouts. If the community discovered a particular loadout had an advantage on a certain map, everyone could use it. This kept things balanced.

By making specializations unlockable in Halo 4, there are going to be situations where some players have access to tools that other players do not have. In my opinion, this has the potential to be problematic. If I’m going toe to toe with an equally skilled player in a DMR dual, I want to win or lose based on how I perform at that moment. I do not want the outcome to be influenced by a specialization that only one of us has access to.

Having said that, the specializations look like they’ll be a blast to play with in a lot of different ways. I just worry that the community will find ways to use (exploit) some specializations that 343 can’t predict. Again going back to Reach, I think Armor Lock ended up being more powerful than Bungie originally intended it to be, but at least all players had access to it. Imagine how frustrating it would be to discover that a certain Specialization is slightly overpowered if you don’t have access to it but your opponent does.
