Thoughts on What We Know: Campaign

After some time of being worried for the game’s development on the Campaign side of things, most of that fear has been alleviated now that we’ve gotten a good look at it after, how long? Over a year? I can’t fully remember. I can say unless something changes I remain hopeful that this game and the campaign will be good. At least cautiously hopeful, I don’t want to be blind-sided by potential launch issues. So what are my thoughts?

  • Graphics: The Campaign in terms of graphics looks much better and much more acceptable since the last time we saw gameplay. Delaying the game by a year was likely the best decision because I was worried if they launched it at the state it was then (yes, I know it was probably an older build at the time) it would have a lot more problems than it needed to have. I didn’t want another situation where a game launched in an unacceptable state. I also find the art style much more pleasing than the art style of 4 and 5. I kind of get the feeling it’s a mix between 3 and Reach, alongside some new qualities to complement that. I hope that stays consistent throughout the Campaign. - Gameplay: Based on what I saw, I’m fairly hopeful that the gameplay will be fun just like in past games. I’ve played all of the multiplayer flights and aside from a few flaws, I believe the gunplay is in a good state. I’m also happy to see that the map appears to be so big, not to mention it appears they’ve planned to give us plenty to do. I believe many of us are going to be busy exploring and killing Banished once Infinite drops. Skulls are gonna be fun too. I am worried about some the vehicles however and how they may play. I know in my experience, the Ghost felt really slow and floaty if you managed to flip have to flip it over again to be able use. The banshee in the gameplay when doing tricks looked pretty slow and floaty too. I think gameplay probably had some settings on as well, as I noticed at one point the player should’ve died but didn’t. Whoever was playing in the gameplay was cheating lol. - Enemies: Happy to see the the enemies we know returning as the way we know them. I’m also very happy to see and know that new enemies are present in the game. Can’t wait to discover different strategies to play around with them and humiliate them. >:) - Music: We’ve heard a good bit of the music in the flights and from what 343 has uploaded to the public. I’m fairly confident the soundtrack will be much better than what we got in 5. I’m sure sounds will be amazing as well. Now time for some nit-picks and smaller stuff.

  • Phantom: I don’t really care for the phantom design, I can get over it, but how the Phantom is destroyed appears really disappointing to me. I would at least want it to look and/or feel satisfying. I played Halo 3 again recently and I believe the Phantoms in 3 were the most satisfying to destroy. Not a deal-breaker, just a disappointing quality. - Particles: I particularly noticed this when the Pelican dropped the Wasp. You can notice little sparks when it hits the ground and they look like 2D PNG images. I hope that other effects don’t look like that in the game because it does not look good. And that’s everything I can immediately think about. Feel free and share your thoughts too. Also Craig looks like a chad now and I love it.

Believe it or not, in just about every game most particles like this are 2d. That being said, it def seems apparent here (though I doesnt really bother me personally)

That’s why I left it as a nitpick. I wouldn’t have mentioned it if it didn’t look so apparent. Not really a deal-breaker and I probably wouldn’t notice it if I’m deep into the gameplay.
