I haven’t posted on the forums in ages but I just wanted to get my thoughts across and see what the general opinion on individual aspects of the minimal amount of game footage that we’ve seen so far are. Also, if you’re going to rage on how Halo is dead, please don’t reply to this thread. I’m getting almost as annoyed at those posts as I am at the sprint posts.
What I liked:
Some of the base movement changes, mainly the default thrust and its potential and clamber. I’ve been wanting default thrust ever since someone mentioned it and its positive effects on gameplay back in the early Halo 4 days. I also liked the design of the spartans, and the whole equal starts business. That’s really awesome. These are changes I’m really glad to see and they’re getting me more hyped than I was before about Halo 5. If there were more base movement changes similar to thrust and clamber, I’d be even more excited.
Smart scope seems like a very smart idea to me. It looks like ADS but plays like zoom, tricking fans from bigger FPS’s and potentially increasing the mainstream appeal of Halo. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ll be sorely disappointed if I see another huge population drop happen in Halo 5 (if it’s a good game). I do have a few problems with the universal zoom though.
What I didn’t like:
Ground pound looked more powerful than Crysis 3’s (not just in terms of damage), and the charge time doesn’t really offset the OHK benefit. It’s like a much more situational boltshot that’s integrated into your suit. Slide seems needless. I don’t see any major benefits from it, other than giving people the chance to record sick dodges (sliding under a rocket before it blows your face off). Charge also seems redundant to me. Sprinting and then following up with a melee gives the exact same effect, unless there’s a lunge involved, in which case I like it even less, as it’d be very powerful from the side. Ground pound is the only one I feel will give an extreme sort of advantage with thought involved.
Sprint doesn’t make sense to me. Why don’t they just raise base player movement? Is it for the psychological effect of luring in players from bigger FPS’s? It’s new drawback makes me slightly more ok with it though.
Automatics with the new zoom. Did no one else notice how powerful the automatics looked? Whenever I saw someone scope in with an automatic it was like a warning sign that complete domination was about to ensue. The tighter spread desperately needs to be balanced, because at the moment, it looks much too powerful on automatics. The aesthetics of some of the weapons put me off too: they were too modern. I thought I was looking at a FAMAS the first time I saw the BR (that was a BR, right?). I’ve seen people complaining about the gun sounds but I didn’t pay too much attention to those.
My suggestions:
Don’t make the weapon sandbox as small as Halo 4’s.
Add in new movement abilities that are similar in effects on gameplay to the thruster.
Please no weapon reskins. I want each faction that has weapons that function noticeably differently as well as look different.
Bring back Invasion, all past gametypes, and a handful of new, good ones.
Reply back with your own opinions, if you want. It’d be great to see them.
