I hear lots of people complaining about how the ranking system in 4 is for “unskilled, casual gamers.” The implication being that people need a purely skill-based ranking system to feel like they’re better than other players.
Personally, I could care less. I play Halo because it’s fun, it kills time, and it usually relieves stress. Not because I need to brag about how skilled I am at Halo. Who cares. You don’t earn any respect ripping on less-skilled players just because you can. In fact, the rest of the lobby just thinks you’re complete trash for it.
In the meantime, go ahead and keep bragging about your K/D, so we can mute you preemptively. If you’re really that good, other players should recognize and respect that without having to look at your rank or record.
Your a casual gamer, that is why you dont care but the competitive community does care. I mean why does this hurt you? it doesnt. If they brought back a full skilled ranking system their would be two playlists, social and ranked. I am a very competitive player but everyone needs to play causally right? So their you have a social playlist were you can play how ever you want. The fact is that a full skilled ranking system makes everyone happy.

I don’t care because it’s stupid. Nobody’s going to play the social playlists. You’ll get maybe a few thousand while everyone else plays ranked. And hey, I like a good ranked match every now and then, but also play for challenges or cheevos from time to time. All I’m saying is that you shouldn’t need a number to prove that you’re skilled at Halo

In this day and age, and especially given the experience of Halo 3, you’d find more people playing Social WAY more than Ranked, I would even bet my left foot on it. Social in Halo 3 constantly held higher populations then Ranked. Those that do want ranks in the game, are in a distinct minority in comparison to the rest of the population, and sorry to say it, catering to that small chunk of the population 100% is just a waste of time and resources (nor will a ranking system remove all of a games glaring game play issues).
Most of those asking for Ranked, also seem to be ‘fair weather’ gamers, and extremely hard to please. Case in point :
“WE WANT A SKILL BASED RANKING SYSTEM!”
‘Okay, fine, there is one in the game, you can’t see it, but it works.’
“NO NO NO NO! WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SEE IT TO KNOW IT WORKS”
‘sighFair enough, you will be able to see it via your Waypoint profile’
“BUT BUT NO!!! WE HAVE TO SEE IT IN GAAAAAAAAAAAME! OTHER WISE IT’S WORTHLESS!”
‘…’
On top of that, all the Halo players that say they are ready to jump ship to CoD just because it has a ranking system.

A lot of people played ranked in Halo 3. I remember ranked team slayer being the second most played playlist in Halo 3 just under social slayer.
Why even post this? This thread is simply just a moan about something that will not effect you in the slightest. Your point of view is incredibly narrow minded can you not see that competitive players don’t want to slay hordes of noobs over and over and that a visible ranking system provides something to aim for making games more tense and exciting?
Also here’s another amazing thing, no ones forcing you to play ranked, if you don’t like it go and play social. Just don’t start a thread complaining about a system you have no intention of really playing.
“Hey guys look at me I am level 50 in halo 3! meanwhile I am sitting in my crap and piss and haven’t eaten in days!” I play games for fun, not to go insane over the fact someone has a higher rank then me or me dying by some random dude.

Again, why would you even post this? people seem to be more jealous over the skill levels and pretend to not care. But by posting this and attacking high skilled players you’re demonstrating your bitterness and showing you in fact do care.

Well then, thank you for re-enforcing my point that Social will be played more than Ranked. Of course, how many people are playing ranked now? Far less then most of the shooters out there without a ranking system. A ranking system is a promise of neither longevity, or population. Halo 3 would be the most played Halo game currently, were that the case.

Here something else that is amazing! Game lacking a ranked system? Everything social? Tired of slaying noobs? Allow me to give you your own advice:
Don’t like Halo 4, with it’s lack of ranking, don’t play it.
Also, for the record, people are allowed to post what they like here, so long as it stays within the rules. No need to question every poster who tosses something up there you don’t like with “Why did you even post this?”. If you feel a post does not contribute to healthy conversation, report it, and we’ll handle it.

I like how you completely understood my point, I do like Halo 4 and I’m excited about the ranking system I just hate the idiots that slate the ranking system for no reason because there will be plenty of unranked playlists to play when it comes out. Thank you for proving you can’t read though and just generally -Yoinking!- at people, I’m sure its appreciated.
Snipefight, I applaud you for putting up with those narrow minded posts. I would never bother with replying to the same hate filled post over and over again.
Ok, to be honest, this whole post was to flame and complain about some guy online flipping about skill. The truth is, there are casual gamers and competitive gamers. Halo 2 and 3 catered to the competitive gamers a lot actually, and many jumped ship when Reach didn’t offer them anything. You can’t hate them for being competitive and caring about rank, K/D, and skill numbers. They also shouldn’t give a dang if you’re a casual gamer. To be fair though, there are the MLG pros who’s bread and butter is the competitive gameplay. So to some, it is pretty important. Just go on enjoying casual games, and ignore them. I, for one, am in between. I’m a casual competitive player!
It’ll be interesting to see how CSR affects Halo 4 matchmaking when it releases.
There are no valid reasons to not have visible ranks. Players who don’t care about ranks aren’t affected because they don’t care. Players who don’t like the competition associated with ranks can stay in social.
I’m guessing that people who are spiteful towards ranks are selfish and think that the game should be 100% social. They’re probably even not good enough to hold their own in ranked gameplay.
