I know it’s been confirmed that some form of progression system is in the works which is great! For many of us, a progression system helps maintain interest. I am, however, a bit concerned about it.
The MCC implemented a progression system that, before long, takes an absolutely insane amount of time/XP to progress. Not to mention there’s absolutely no rewards for progressing.
My hope is that this system 343 is developing will make the system rewarding both in practicality (not making it too grindy) and in actual rewards for milestones.
Hopefully it has a bit of skill weighting to it. Bonuses for the win. Objective score. Medals etc.
And I wouldn’t worry about the “pace”. It will need to open ended so that it can last for years. I would make it like Halo 5 - exponential at the start… but when you get to a really big level that is still somewhat achievable, say SR 150, repeat that XP gap forever.
Race you to SR1000+.
I like the idea of exponential growth to a plateau, but what are we progressing toward?
I don’t care all that much for such a thing because it’s inherently meaningless. But if we attach something to it, id get it. Like every level earns small amounts of cR or something. Or armor.
It’d have to be open ended as was mentioned for sure and, if so, there would need to be some form of currency or set of earnable items that aren’t tied to specific levels or milestones but are awarded or become available as players achieve milestones. Not suggesting loot boxes but more of a loot pool that you choose from or are awarded from as you rank up.
This prevents the need to grind to level 10,000 or something to get a specific item. Especially if the loot pool is updated seasonally with new items and if the ranks soft reset each season. Maybe have a season rank and an all-time rank.
They’d just need to make sure it wasn’t like Halo 5 and dang near impossible for the average person to get the armor they really wanted.
