Thoughts on the New MLG v1 Settings

Ghostayame released the new MLG v1 settings tonight. You can find them on the GT: oGhostayame.

What are your thoughts? Do you like them or not?

This is my response.

Yes.

I am glad Ghostayame decided to switch to BR only. The DMR is completely overpowered and breaks map movement because you can shoot people from across the map by yourself. You can isolate. The BR takes more of a teamshot, more teamwork. When I was playing customs with these settings I was dying fast enough, if everybody had a DMR it would have been way too hectic. Although you may think the DMR is more skillful than the BR because of the BR bullet spread this is not true. The DMR has a ridiculous amount of bullet magnetism to the point where only the outside of the reticle has to barely be touching somebody for it to register.

Are these settings perfect? No. I would have liked to start with the thruster pack like in the t4 settings and I wish the ordinances were power weapons instead of AAs. Although in the t4 settings it felt like everybody had a power weapon at all times so the perfect balances in my eyes would have been to make the ordinances still have Sticky Det/Railgun/Concussion Rifle but have your ordinance come up less often.

As for the maps I wish they added more maps. I wish Lockout Oddball, Pit CTF and Sanctuary Slayer/CTF were added.

And of course I want no instant respawn but that is not possible without modded gametypes until 343 fixes that glitch.

The settings aren’t perfect but overall I am very pleased with them. And remember in MLG v1 settings in Reach there was an armor lock pick-up on Zealot, bloom and sprint. By the time v7 came along MLG Reach was incredibly fun. Hopefully it doesn’t take 7 versions in Halo 4 but give it time. The game hasn’t even been out for 2 months and there isn’t even a playlist yet to test these settings fully in MM with thousands of people playing at once. I am very happy with these settings and hopefully we can try them out at MLG events if this fiasco with -Yoink!- Gaming, Microsoft and MLG ends and Halo ends up back on the circuit.

I like how its BR only but i wish it was 4 shot.

My thought are as follows;

I have no interest in playing someone else’s custom games version of Halo 4.

Custom games version of H4? I’ll see you when the MLG playlist is released sometime this month.

You actually wont, because I prefer playing default Halo as apposed to MLG’s stripped down version of Halo. Besides that, with -Yoink!- entering the fray, I have zero incentive for playing MLG when there will be online tournaments available.

I agree. No mlg, no more halo for me. Sad to see no ranks, no competitions to get excited for, no good maps, no preferred connections, nobody really caring to play. Its not fun playing team action sack with abilities I’m sorry, halo has never been this wrong until now. Of course my opinion, I am sure some enjoy this new game where the main character is the master chief.of old.

Cool. I’m looking forward to VOD of the settings in action.

Noooo there is ordnance, eh ill probably give it a try once it launches gotta be better then vanilla halo 4.

So let me get this straight - the MLG settings in Reach had a no bloom DMR so you could spam the trigger and shoot fast/accurate but the MLG settings in Halo 4 remove the DMR because it works the same way (fast/accurate) but is now suddenly too powerful?! Lolz.

I prefer to play how it was intended back in Halo CE and H2 opposed to this extra fluff Bungie added in Reach and 343 added in H4.

A couple reasons for that. One there was really no other options in Reach (needle rifle was the only other primary rifle) and two the bullet magnetism on the H4 DMR is so much more than the Reach DMR and H4 BR.

The DMR is overpowered.

Definitely give it a try. The ordinances are not power weapons, they are AAs (thruster pack, hardlight shield and hologram), so they are not too overpowered.

Im hopeful MLG will pick H4 back up, Sundance (CEO of MLG) said he just wants developer support. Even if H4 is off the MLG circuit their are other tournaments such as AGL that run Halo.

As for ranks they come out this month, just be patient.

I kinda agree.

I know this is not what you meant, but I don’t like that Halo 4 needs to be stripped down this much for it to work in MLG. The point of MLG is to let ‘casuals’ have a look at great footage of amazing Halo players. But when they see a totally stripped down version of Halo 4, I mean, they are only playing on forge maps ffs. Who’s going to watch something that doesn’t even look like the game they are playing.

Same reason why MLG didn’t do that great with Reach neither (though Reach had other issues as well). Halo 4 MLG won’t be that big neither, just 2/3 tournaments tops I think and then they’ll cancel it.

If they had to take out the DMR, fine. But I don’t see why they don’t have the LR and Carbine as starting options. Also I think they should have had players spawn with Thrusters.

Again, MLG chose to make the Reach DMR fire faster and more accurately by giving it zero bloom. Now in Halo 4 by eliminating the DMR and going with the BR only it shows they now want slower kill times, less accuracy, and more randomness for their “competitive” gameplay.

You don’t want to be a -Yoink!- Pro?

If there was a BR in Halo Reach, then they probably would have taken the DMR out too, -Yoink-.

They made the best of a bad situation in Reach. The DMR with bloom was dumb because bloom in any competitive enviorment or any game really is just bad design. The no bloom DMR was a nice way to remove the randomness from the gun but the MLG Reach settings were so different from the core game that it was near impossible to go from one to the other.

First why do you need to post in red? Makes no sense.

MLG chose to to take out bloom because it was random. And it worked, MLG v7 Reach was fun and competitive. The BR is only inaccurate at long range and it breaks maps when you can shoot people from across the map. The BR takes more teamwork and skill to use because with the aim assist/bullet magnetism of the DMR anybody can use it. The BR on the other hand has much less aim assist/bullet magnetism than the DMR.
