So as someone who has played all the other Halo games, I liked the original carbine. I went in with an open mind to all weapons as change is good, however I have found the new burst Carbine to be my least favourite gun in all of Halo so far. I mean I don’t like the Comando but that can be tweaked, I just don’t know if the burst Carbine can be saved or if it is conceptually flawed? Thoughts? Civil discussion welcomed.
I wouldn’t even call it a carbine more so a Burst Plasma Rifle

Exactly. Man I hope they bring back the real Carbine as this thing is more like a bad plasma thrower. Not my cup of tea at all so hopefully they can make it passable and then maybe if we’re lucky bring back the actual Carbine at some point.
For me it is okay. It kind of reminds me a plasma gun from Doom.
I just can’t for the life of me gel with it. It does decent damage if you’re accurate, but I’m having a very hard time being accurate enough to get the two-burst kills it is very much capable of.
One burst removes shields, and I think like 3 headshots from there will do the trick. It’s not much trouble to do in the weapon drills, but with less predictable movement comes less chance for perfect bursts outside of an apparent mid-ish range sweet spot range for its tracking.
Of course I could be full of it and my observations total doody. I dunno. Just ain’t my thing, I guess.
Garbage. Why do they always need to change the plasmarifle so drastically? Doesn’t the classic plasmarifle work?
I don’t hate the Pulse Carbine, but I won’t go out of my way to grab it. It’s strong but pretty boring, good for when you run out of ammo. I’d take the BR and Commando over it any time.
The carbine combo is one of my favorite ways to kill bots. One burst from the carbine + a sidekick headshot is an easy kill and a lot of fun with how fast you can switch to the sidekick. Doesn’t work with other headshot capable weapons though because the weapons switch time is too long.
It feels alright to use, but the tracking really only seems to work inside of a very specific distance window. Add in running, jumping, and other evasive maneuvers and you’re better off using a plasma pistol or AR.
It’s actually enjoyable to use. Its tracking makes it feelstrong, but not too strong. Feels like a good addition to the sandbox because it’s able to be distinctive from the BR and Commando.
- It’s not the carbine
- It’s a close range weapon
- It does big damage but has slow plasma bolts to compensate
I think the classic carbine will return in the future in an update.
Seems like the big issue is it being labeled as a carbine right?
Functionally it is so far removed from what halo fans know to be a covie carbine.
The niche role it has in the sandbox is explicitly close-mid.
Not close range.
Not mid range.
Close mid range, thats is the space where the gun appears to be viably functionable.
Its pretty cool. At mid ranges it takes good aim to get your bursts on target, but if you are consistent with it, the Plasma Carbine absolutely shreds. From what I’ve seen so far the main problem is that the Carbine makes the Plasma Pistol completely obsolete. With the Plasma Rifle you could always argue that while it is the more utilitarian option of the two, it wasn’t quite as good as the Pistol for taking down shields. Meanwhile, unless your target is far away, the Plasma Carbine is just as good at taking down shields as the Plasma Pistol while also being a far better weapon overall.
Not a fan. At least while playing on the Xbox One version with its 30fps target; it feels damn near impossible to hit shots unless the enemy is being inordinately predictable or still.
Same goes for the Skewer for that matter; beautifully designed gun, great sound design, so satisfying to use… but it’s a projectile, with bullet drop, that you can only fire once per clip, with a lengthy reload time, and with an absurdly small reticule that makes it extremely difficult to hit a moving target.
It’s like trying to shoot at a can with a water gun while in a car travelling 50mph over a cobble road with 2 flat tyres and a wheel missing.
I can see this thing being an absolute nightmare to deal with in campaign, but in MP it is definitely inconsistent. I haven’t had too much difficulty landing shots against the bots, but we’ll see how that changes if/when we unlock PvP for the flight. It has some pretty crazy damage potential, since a single burst will take down someone’s shields with a second to the head being a kill, AND with tracking on top of that. However, I swear sometimes the tracking will crap out at close range, like the Pulse Carbine has this very specific distance where it will work perfectly and anything further or closer will just cause it to fail you.
I also wish it looked more similar to the Plasma Repeater but that’s neither here nor there. Would help to further differentiate it from the Stalker Rifle (which isn’t in the flight but it is the red Carbine-looking thing the Scout spartan in the multiplayer art is holding) in appearance.
I find it to be very inconsistant and really hard to land shots with
Sounds like people here are using it all wrong. It’s an absolute powerhouse in the medium range where it is designed to work.
It tracks when the target is within the area where the crosshair turns red. Higher shots will auto track towards the head, killing in a 3 shot burst with head shots.
I don’t understand why people don’t pick it up, it’s my go-to at the moment.

It is absolutely not designed as a close range weapon - it needs to be med range for the tracking to work for a start.

It can actually 2 tap if you hit each shot in the burst and get a headshot
Eh, it has some potential but I don’t really care for having more auto tracking weapons in the sandbox. As it stands it also just roundly outclasses the plasma pistol in terms of shield stripping it feels like the PP’s only purpose will be vehicle emp.
I would much prefer the pulse carbine to have faster projectiles with no spread rather than keeping it a tracking weapon or have players manually guide their shots(like a wire guided missile.), right now it just feels like a buffed H5 Boltshot.
