I liked it. It showed that Spartan IV’s aren’t pushovers like people paint them to be.
I loved the fight!
The fight did justice for both sides. It showed the Chief trumps Locke in experience while also showing that Locke is a very deadly combatant in his own right and that some Spartan IV’s are certainly capable of putting up a decent fight against a Spartan II. It all depends on the Spartan.
343 did a great job with it in terms of not portraying either side as pushovers. Now the actual fight leaves a lot to be desired as motion cap was not a good idea for this. Perhaps if it were two Marines or ODST’s, but Spartans? No.
It could have been better.
Given that an armoured Spartan IV is designed to be superior to an armoured Spartan II in melee combat, I thought it was a brilliant sequence.
Still could’ve tagged it as spoilers btw.
I believe it was motion-capture and kinda seemed slow. Search it up on YouTube and put speed to 1.25x
Now that’s where I started to like it.

What did you expect? If you really didn’t want spoilers then you wouldn’t have came on the FORUM TALKING ABOUT HALO 5.
That was actually the point of the game that got me most excited.
Right at that moment i thought "Oh yeah! This is an awesome game! And than they punished that thought with the ending… Not trying to spoiler anyone of what’s coming up… that’ll be in another chat…
I thought it was goofier than the Jul fight.
Why didnt Osiris didnt do anything at any point at all? It was so stupid.
They might as well been random marines or ODST.
It was so weird.
I guess it was ok in the Hollywood sense but storywise it was just so goofy.

You’ll notice later in the cutscene that there was a huge gap between Osiris portal and the platform they fought on. Osiris couldn’t get to Locke and didn’t want to shoot Master Chief.
I really liked the fight. I’ve seen a lot of people upset that Locke almost seemed equal to Chief, but he actually is fairly close and I’m glad the fight reflected that while still having Chief win through experience. I mean, Chief isn’t a hero because he’s the best fighter, but because he never gives up.

Those mofos jumped from a Pelican up in the sky down a mountain, they couldn’t boost across? It was just kinda silly.

There was a gap but it wasnt huge by any definition. Well, maybe ants and other small creatures.
And did they really only have one auto-armor-lock thing? That even worst if it’s true.
It was somewhat good. I liked it on many levels until the end when Locke pulls out the armor restraint device. I mean, why is it our privates in our real world military would know not to slowly pull out your secret weapon to show your enemy…and Locke is this “smart” Spartan. Plus it’s supposed to be something new but seemed the chief knew what it was and how to use it.
But the two hitting eachother was kinda cool. Wished that part was longer.
Short and to the point. Like a real fight between pros.

A Spartan-IV in Gen 2 is physically on par with a Spartan-II in Gen 1 Mark VI. Given that Master Chief was wearing Gen 2 during their encounter he was a level above Locke. Also after John started fighting for real he made quick work of Locke even though Locke had the armor disabling device.
I like how Locke tried to kill him once hebwas about to lose.
It was okay, but it was pretty underwhelming. They make Spartans look like Superman on roids in all the other scenes, but here the combat was less engaging than watching a boxing match in real life.
What?
I thought it was the worst part of the entire campaign.
For me the fight was one of the most underwhelming parts of the entire campaign.
I’m not going to blame deceptive marketing either. We all knew they would fight at some point and it was so underwhelming, boring and over way too quickly. The part where they struggled for the device was laughable and looked like 2 people fighting in the street, not 2 super soldiers. The fact that Locke got the better of Chief so quickly and easily for a part of the fight is also ridiculous. If you’re going to have your 5 seconds of glory against the Chief, at least make it spectacular so at least you look like you can and should stand your own
I actually really enjoyed the campaign, the fun factor far surpassed 343s last effort even if the story lacked substance and a reasonable amount of pacing.
