I just finished the Halo 4 Campaign on Legendary and frankly, I got a little teary-eyed on several occasions. I thought it was fantastic. I’m not going to compare it to others because the Halo 3 Campaign is too nostalgic for me, but I felt it was a wonderful addition to the Halo Universe.
Only minor issue I had with it was that you would need to know some back story on the Didact, the Librarian, and the Human-Forerunner War so that you would know what was going on and what each character’s motivation was at the time, especially the Didact and Librarian. It also would have been nice to get a little more explanation on the so-called “Storm” Covenant Faction. Other than that, though, I loved it.
I enjoyed this campaign as much as I did Halo CE’s. I agree that the storm covenant and the didact’s motivations should have been better explained though.
I said “it was good”, not in a bad way. I honestly have too many more greater memories playing the original on xbox. Also, Halo 3 kinda stuck too me. In terms of content, I wish it was a little longer.
We didn’t even get any explanation of the Covenant hierarchy until Halo 2 unless you read the books and did research on them, so I think it’s a bit wrong to be calling out 343 on not doing enough explaining when they most certainly have.
In Halo CE we didn’t even really know about the Covenant. Halo 4? We’re actually introduced to a Master Chief who learned the ability to talk and has some emotion. They strengthened the relationship of Cortana and Chief in one single game. Prometheans/Forerunners/Librarian/Didact we all learned about in the previous games, quite a bit from 343 Guilty Spark and the terminals, but they also gave us more information regarding them and characterized them pretty nicely.
The only faction we didn’t know about was the Storm Covenant, but like I said we didn’t even know anything relevant about the Covenant until Halo 2. As for the ending of the story, I think it was pulled off pretty nicely and was one of the few game endings I’ve ever seen that made me feel sad.
The fact that they’re continuing it with Spartan Ops and actually gave some backstory regarding War Games is a nice touch too. I love the Spartan Ops episodes and hope that they will eventually tie in to what should be another epic campaign in Halo 5.
As far as my favorite campaigns go:
Halo 4 > Halo 2 > Halo CE > Halo 3/ODST/Wars > Halo Reach
I loved it! After the first playthrough I was very impressed but had a little “was that it” feeling, but after the second playthrough I paid more attention to the dialouge, spent more time just looking around and I didn’t rush through it like the first time and it was fenomenal!
Lots of replay value in this game just like the previous halos. I also think 343 couldn’t have done a better job than this. Perfect first part of a new trilogy.
I thought the character development was better than we’ve ever seen in Halo. I loved it!
I was a little bit disappointed that much of the story is tucked away in hidden terminals (which you can’t even view in game, but that’s another issue in itself!), but overall I thought they did an excellent job and I loved the campaign.
Chief was more than just a Spartan. He defied orders - which we’ve never seen before - he rose to the occasion when Cortana was having issues and was forced to take charge and make decisions and figure things out. It was great.
I absolutely loved it and I think I’ll be paying this campaign many more times to come. I’ve done two full runs at this point.
I will just say it was bad, way to short, and the level design on some areas were just awful. Did not fully or even remotely explain the new covenant, why was that one ship on the mission Dawn had its shields down? Parts of some missions you can easily skip (looking at you pelican mission!!)
This list goes on and on, the story line itself was ok, was predictable but nice to see the composer was used. Don’t really want to dissect the whole thing, it would be a pretty long post.
