What has happened to the Halo community?
Coming from a Halo player for 9 years, I have seen it change.
I remember in the days of Halo 2 and Halo 3, complaining was drastically different from today. Also, before anyone goes on to say that there was nothing to complain about, yes there was. If you disagree, you did not really play the game for long, or you didn’t even realize the things wrong because you weren’t even looking for them like you are today. It took months for TU updates, lags, glitches and bugs, etc. in both of the Halo titles mentioned. Like I said, there were complaints, but not in the magnitude that we experience today. It all started with Halo Reach. This is because it was a big change in the Halo game. Tons of new features were added and this, of course, gave players mixed feelings causing questioning and complaints. Things change, and yes, I did not like Halo Reach.
I see complaints about the most ridiculous things.
343 doesn’t do one thing, then they do something to try and fix it. Result? The community goes into an uproar trying to put them down.
It’s honestly absurd. You can have constructive criticism in a polite manner addressing the issue, but to put them down by saying it’s the worst game ever and talking about how terrible it is by pointing out every little detail you can find…why?
Do you honestly think 343 made Halo 4 to be done with it? They are a business that is seeking to make a profit. A way a business works is by gaining a trust with it’s customers. The only way for 343 to do that is to improve a game to the best of their capabilities. Fixing certain things do not happen over night. It takes planning and work to figure out and conduct what they believe is right. Also like I said earlier, remember how the one Halo 2 TU took months? My point. No matter what company or what game, it all takes time.
Halo 4 is a new game and yes it is going to have problems, just as any other Halo game has or any game for that matter. I’m not saying to not put in your criticism, they need that to know what is wrong. I’m saying to at least address it in a better fashion instead of whining like a bunch of ungrateful kids. It’s depressing to come on here and see about 1 out of every 5 posts being a whiny, annoying complaint about something that has been said numerous times before. Trust me, 343 is listening and they are working.
I think people should just be a little more appreciative to a company that is continuing to bring you a game that you enjoy and for the hard work they put into it. Bungie had a lot of hate and criticism, but it was in such a different way. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been around Halo for a while and I’ve become more tolerant and understanding of the issues, but whatever the reason, I think it should be that way.
I actually think 343 is handling it well for Halo 4 being their first major title. Imagine the stress of keeping up with such a huge name such as Halo? I’ve been playing Halo since Halo 2 and competitively since around Halo 3 and I enjoy Halo 4. It has some issues, but they are being resolved. So instead of the Halo 4 section being primarily a complaint section, how about we actually start some more positive threads related to the topic?
For instance, some nice and legitimate ideas for the problems you see. Sharing some experiences. Giving tips and tutorials on how to do things. I never really see that sort of thing in the Halo community like I used to. It would make this thread a whole lot more enjoyable to be on instead of people threatening to stop playing Halo on a Halo forum.
I don’t think it’s the game that’s changed all too much. I think it’s the player.
TL;DR
I think the Halo community has grown into a mob that only points out the negative issues of the game and talks about nothing else other than how much of a bad company 343 is. Instead, how about we address the issues in a more appropriate manner and have more positive threads such as nice and legitimate ideas for the problems you see. Sharing some experiences. Giving tips and tutorials on how to do things. I think people should just be a little more appreciative to a company that is continuing to bring you a game that you enjoy and for the hard work they put into it. It would make this thread a whole lot more enjoyable to be on instead of people threatening to stop playing Halo on a Halo forum.
