Thoughts on the community, not the game.

What has happened to the Halo community?
Coming from a Halo player for 9 years, I have seen it change.

I remember in the days of Halo 2 and Halo 3, complaining was drastically different from today. Also, before anyone goes on to say that there was nothing to complain about, yes there was. If you disagree, you did not really play the game for long, or you didn’t even realize the things wrong because you weren’t even looking for them like you are today. It took months for TU updates, lags, glitches and bugs, etc. in both of the Halo titles mentioned. Like I said, there were complaints, but not in the magnitude that we experience today. It all started with Halo Reach. This is because it was a big change in the Halo game. Tons of new features were added and this, of course, gave players mixed feelings causing questioning and complaints. Things change, and yes, I did not like Halo Reach.

I see complaints about the most ridiculous things.
343 doesn’t do one thing, then they do something to try and fix it. Result? The community goes into an uproar trying to put them down.
It’s honestly absurd. You can have constructive criticism in a polite manner addressing the issue, but to put them down by saying it’s the worst game ever and talking about how terrible it is by pointing out every little detail you can find…why?

Do you honestly think 343 made Halo 4 to be done with it? They are a business that is seeking to make a profit. A way a business works is by gaining a trust with it’s customers. The only way for 343 to do that is to improve a game to the best of their capabilities. Fixing certain things do not happen over night. It takes planning and work to figure out and conduct what they believe is right. Also like I said earlier, remember how the one Halo 2 TU took months? My point. No matter what company or what game, it all takes time.

Halo 4 is a new game and yes it is going to have problems, just as any other Halo game has or any game for that matter. I’m not saying to not put in your criticism, they need that to know what is wrong. I’m saying to at least address it in a better fashion instead of whining like a bunch of ungrateful kids. It’s depressing to come on here and see about 1 out of every 5 posts being a whiny, annoying complaint about something that has been said numerous times before. Trust me, 343 is listening and they are working.

I think people should just be a little more appreciative to a company that is continuing to bring you a game that you enjoy and for the hard work they put into it. Bungie had a lot of hate and criticism, but it was in such a different way. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been around Halo for a while and I’ve become more tolerant and understanding of the issues, but whatever the reason, I think it should be that way.

I actually think 343 is handling it well for Halo 4 being their first major title. Imagine the stress of keeping up with such a huge name such as Halo? I’ve been playing Halo since Halo 2 and competitively since around Halo 3 and I enjoy Halo 4. It has some issues, but they are being resolved. So instead of the Halo 4 section being primarily a complaint section, how about we actually start some more positive threads related to the topic?

For instance, some nice and legitimate ideas for the problems you see. Sharing some experiences. Giving tips and tutorials on how to do things. I never really see that sort of thing in the Halo community like I used to. It would make this thread a whole lot more enjoyable to be on instead of people threatening to stop playing Halo on a Halo forum.

I don’t think it’s the game that’s changed all too much. I think it’s the player.

TL;DR
I think the Halo community has grown into a mob that only points out the negative issues of the game and talks about nothing else other than how much of a bad company 343 is. Instead, how about we address the issues in a more appropriate manner and have more positive threads such as nice and legitimate ideas for the problems you see. Sharing some experiences. Giving tips and tutorials on how to do things. I think people should just be a little more appreciative to a company that is continuing to bring you a game that you enjoy and for the hard work they put into it. 343i has done really well with Halo 4 I have no complaints about it. I also like the fact that The Assault Rifle , Battle Rifle the DMR and the Covenant Carbine all 4 together for the first time in a Halo Game and this is what got me real excited when 343i revealed this the first time. =)

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this. I liked all of the Halos except Halo Wars.

no descope
sprint
perks
no ranked lists
no default nade pick up
paper mache vehicles

…sorry but there is no excuse for these things.

I totally agree. There’s not much you can do about it, though. People want to complain, so they’re just going to complain.

The game has been out for 4 months now.
The first TU is usually to fix bugs and such.
The second is usually to implement new things, same for TUs after that.

Yes, I am disappointed in there being no ranked lists, but don’t you think you would have gotten over that with Halo Reach? They are adding a ranking system, it may not be visible in game, but it’s still a ranking system that anyone can see.

There are still tons of things for 343 to either improve, add, or remove that they are currently working on and planning for. Give them some time, everyone is so impatient.

Also, paper mache vehicles? Elaborate.

Flinching does the same thing basically without being as annoying.

Faster gameplay is bad? It’s what everyone has been asking for since Reach was released.

They barely affect gameplay. I have not seen one instance on the map Shutout where Perks affected gameplay.

April. 343i doesn’t want your precious number to be messed up when it gets released.

It makes spamming not happen as much. And it’s default in Throwback. And if you want to pick up grenades, put on Resupply.

Better than Reach’s, but the Warthog is weak (2 plasma nades and it’s dead). I agree at some points here.

There are excuses for these. And the OP asked if you could explain these issues in constructive format, in which you did not do, and instead mindlessly complained.

> Also, paper mache vehicles? Elaborate.

Some people here think that vehicles should be nigh-invulnerable machines of death that require little skill or caution to use, and are angry that any weapon besides rocket launchers do any damage to them at all.

Oh, but of course.
I don’t think it’s the game that’s really changed all to much. I think it’s the player.

Way to prove the OP right, haha.

I’m sorry you don’t like hearing so many people complaining about Halo 4. I guess there’s just a lot of people that feel like their limits were pushed and standards violated for a halo game. It’s grown more negative, noticeably at Reach’s arrival. Don’t blame the responses we see from halo fans.

I said it started when Reach was released.

Sprint and no descope are great, without them the game would be slow paced and boring, it would take forever to get from point A to point B. With no descope we can kill those kids who are camping and trying to pick off people because they can’t outshoot anyone, with descope they only need to shoot you once and then proceed to hide so their precious K/D isn’t ruined, I may be biased though because I never liked that mechanic. Vehicles, I think the problem isn’t them, it the loadouts letting you spawn with a PP and stickies, I feel like you should be forced to spawn with a pistol and frags but I guess that’s pro, where you can’t use perks, which I really like, they add some individuality and strategy. Ranked is coming, stop crying like a child and wait for once.

It’s a small but very vocal part of the community.

I think the words they employ when voicing their displeasure is what amuses me the most.

Epic Fail

Travesty

Violation of Halo

et al

Also the constant claims of knowing “The Halo Way” are just so over the top.

Its obvious these people truly care about the game so it is unfortunate that they aren’t happy but the way the majority go about expressing it is so DRAMATIC that I can’t take it seriously.

I haven’t heard anyone say GG in years.

I believe your right OP, it’s the players that have changed

Maybe I’ll start doing it again.

GG.
No one really even talks anymore either.
It’s sad. I remember back in Halo 2 and Halo 3 EVERYONE would be talking. Be it just conversation or calling out to your team mates.

the 4th post

Guess you could change that one in five posts are negative to one and four.

Other than that I agree people make a big deal out of nothing. I also wonder how many people would have these “problems” if they didn’t read them over and over again.

It seems like complaining has become the norm around here because that what the cool kids are doing.

Haha if only they knew.

Well then you know why the community is sour

Yes, Reach was a big change in the Halo series. I’m still not over that game. I hated it, but I didn’t whine about it constantly.

It’s just a drastic difference in the comparison between players now. It’s like most people are so impatient and have no respect.
