Thoughts on the Campaign?

I beg to differ my friend.

If you dont have any constructive criticism then don’t bother commenting.

We get it. The game is too hard. You don’t understand the story. Yada yada…

If you are rushing through the campaign you can do it in 3 hours.

Just like every other Halo game.

What you’re saying is a lot of developers are spending more time making an open world with more content, because really they’re lazy and just time pad the game. Make sense

Bruh i understand the story, I can tell this “campaign” is a setup for a much larger story (or else I would have tried to get a refund after I finished it, because the story and missions have very little replay value) that I hope we don’t have to wait a year or pay more than $10 to play more and get past this cringy brute loving fan-fiction version of CE’s second mission.

It has too much going on and not much of it is the current events, most of the cutscenes (if you can even call them cutscenes, as they are just “holograms”.) are about what happened while chief was drifting in space on a six month pleasure cruise enjoying the view of zeta halo from orbit, and several are from before we got tossed out.

Actually besides the boss fights this game is rather easy on legendary in fact all of the other halos make this game look like a joke even Halo 5 and H4’s spartan ops are harder.

I’ve already done one speed run it took me 3 hours and 58 min. it would have been a lot shorter but the game locked me in several rooms for 5+ min each while it loaded the next area and a few times i had to hard quit the game to get it to load the next room and unlock doors. along the way my audio broke because i kept skipping the cutscenes. I had to restart my Xbox to fix that issue. Which makes me question how much play testing they actually did.

Who said rushing? Because I didn’t. The actual campaign that has ‘meaningful’ content in it is short, drab, predictable and well pretty boring. Yes you can rush through any Halo campaign but this one felt empty and it was a open world game.

I didn’t rush either and it took me 16 hours to complete. That’s also skipping more than half the side quests and objectives.

Not sure I understand what you mean by cringy brute loving fan fiction.

Agreed a lot of the backstory happens off camera. The main story, which centers around the Chief , Weapon and the Pilot is the main focus of the story. Chiefs distrust of the weapon, and those flashbacks help new players understand why Chief has distrust in the first place. It wasn’t like Halo 5, which had a hundred different things going on screen and cluttered the story. It was very marvel-esque which is not a good thing.

The only Halo games that are tough on legendary are 2 and Reach. Halo 3 was the easiest by far

Cool. Speed runs don’t mean anything. I can speed run any of the campaigns in an hour 1/2.

I think it’s a good open world shooter and a ton of fun, but not my favorite Halo. I think it suffers on the story/continuity front. I realize 343 is trying to distance themselves from 4 & 5 but I think it all feels lazy and very convenient.

I do like how Chief seems to have thrown is give-a-f*** out the window in this game. Some of his comments to what the Weapon or Bro Hammer are telling him are great.

I know but I think I’m scarred by our previous wait.

Reach is easy on legendary :joy: halo 3 was an absolute nightmare (not as bad as 2 but I still have PTSD from fighting the flood in Cortana)

To each their own :joy: Halo 3 felt like a breeze for me.

Yes the Cortana level is a nightmare

I just finished my first run on Legendary last night. I have real mixed feelings on it. Was a lot of good stuff but it also felt pretty rough around the edges. The lack of biome diversity, and only Banished as enemies makes it start to feel pretty repetitive. Especially since the open world segments add so much to total playtime. Legendary boss fights were also just plain silly with how much health they have. Some specific changes I think they really need to make in a patch:

  1. You should get the Thruster upgrade BEFORE you fight Bassus. And you should be able to dodge his leaping smash using it which should have him get the hammer stuck or something to give you a window to shoot him, and get distance. That fight felt absolutely ridiculous in it’s current form. And it adds insult to injury you get the thruster right after him lol.

  2. FOB’s should be like little forts not just a helipad. With gun racks with some basic guns/ammo so you don’t always have to order a Battle Rifle every time. I should only need to order the special variant guns. Might also be fun to have to defend them from Banished attacks sometimes. Or at least in post game.

  3. Hunters need a nerf/redesign. Their weakness is supposed to be their backs. But they seem to see in all directions, and spin around near instantly. Your pretty much forced to just shoot them forever until they die in Infinite, and it sucks. That rapid fire shot is also just plain silly. It should be removed or only given to a special Hunter boss or something. Not saying this cause I suck. I managed to get past the one’s in Silent Auditorium after all. I just think they are way over the top here.

  4. You should get some actual armor from Campaign. Coatings/Emblems only feels really greedy, and disrespectful to people that payed full price, and put in the time/effort to finish the game.

But aside from the above I mostly enjoyed the Campaign. It definitely feels the most like Halo out of the games 343 has done. And riding around with Marines, and storming Banished outposts is really fun.

Now that I’ve finished the campaign(on normal, because I suck at video games), I have a few choice words for the devs.
Let’s start with the good stuff.
1: the gunplay.
Holy cow. It’s better than it’s been in a while. I love the grapple, it’s a nice addition to the sandbox. I used it 99% of the time. Overall, 10/10, great job, 343i.
2: the open world
Yes. I don’t think I need to say any more. The open world’s fun, and the voice acting for the audio logs was great. The HVTs were a fun challenge. Except for the sniper jackal. And, grunt bosses, really? One headshot, done. It’s harder to kill the henchmen than the actual HVT.
Overall, 9/10.

3:story

Fernando, stop whining! We’ll get you home if you’ll stop your belly aching!
(Two seconds later)
sniff no, I’m not crying. sniff

The story was good, better than any halo except halo 2. And ce. And 3. But you get points taken away for the pilot being whiny. And I can’t say I saw 216’s plot coming from a mile away, but I sure wasn’t surprised when it was revealed. Ans was the weapon being cortana supposed to be a big reveal or something? It didn’t feel like it. Also, Atriox can time travel? What?!?
8/10

The game?
9/10.
Halo’s back.

There certainly is a lot of open space with nothing. The previews from a few years back showed rhino type animals, elk like animals, none of that in the game. Also, someone got carried away with the ‘copy and paste’ on pine trees.

I know, when the Weapon was like

“I am her” :scream::scream::scream:

I was there waving my hand going “and….”.

You’re supposed to be a super intelligent AI, on two different occasions you’ve been called Cortana by the Pilot and the Chief. You look and sound like her. You can hear whispers of Cortana saying “they’ll pair you with another AI, maybe even another Cortana model if Halsey lets them”. You see Cortana in flashbacks and when you do you’re reliving her memories and even absorbing them.

I mean I had my suspicions when Bassus got the drop on me and she didn’t say anything.

He didn’t travel back in time.
Like chief, he was teleported somewhere else on the ring when the Silent Auditorium was being destroyed…again.

In short, 343i were given incredibly large shoes to fill after Halo 3. The caliber of game that they were expected to make for Halo 4 was massive. I think Halo 4 & 5 was them trying to run before they could walk. Halo Infinite was them successfully learning to walk - at times, even jog -.

Infinite is clearly not perfect… However, it is a massive accomplishment for 343i considering that what they got right, was the most important aspects of a great Halo game. Core gameplay is really solid, enemies are fun to fight and character designs are a great return to form. The story they told was really needed after 4 & 5 and I think they nailed what they set out to do. The campaign is really enjoyable, by far the best 343 has ever made, and as an entry point I would say, it closely rivals bungies original trilogy.

As a whole Infinite is a really solid foundation and I just hope they continue to build on it.
(NO SPOILERS) - Given how this campaign ends, I believe the future of Halo is looking pretty bright.

I think they need to really up their game in the next DLC and introduce more of the key players in the story. Atriox, Offensive Bias, the actual Endless and just should have more than one faction. I felt like this was a prologue where nothing I did mattered. Killing Esharum changes nothing, Atriox is already an angry ape and the Banished aren’t going away.

The foundations are very shaky and I am iffy about Atriox being a Thanos style figure. He’s a Brute. Brutes are idiots and shouldn’t understand how Forerunner technology works. Chief should have killed him in that cutscene as he’s killed thousands of Brutes before no problem.

Also given how they treated Eshcarum I am annoyed at them trying to make the Banished sympathetic and playing down how evil they are. This is from somebody who just watched the Witch Queen cinematic and thought a certain character maybe did deserve a second chance. I d much rather forgive Savathun and the Hive than Atriox and the Brutes. One was lied to and the other are monsters.

I am also very iffy about the suggestion of bringing Time Travel into the story. That could get very messy and I am not sure it’s a good direction.

Unpleasant campaign experience. if you account the time to get to objectives, collecting weapons/supplies to prep for a fight ( if your playing on legendary/LASO) it just eats up too much time. And the “content” is far and in between these missions they give us. Weakest of the reclaimer trilogy.

Plus if they are releasing additional campaigns which honestly could just be 1 extra mission slapped on the end of the game, or adding more collectibles to keep players “invested”

I’d love if they just scrapped these bosses for taking on scarabs. maybe some battles in high orbit. not just copy and pasted landscapes

It’s more-or-less my dream Halo. The story, characters, world, and so on mostly delivered what I wanted. My only major issue was the final boss feeling tacked on.
