Thoughts on the Beta and Waypoint Update

While browsing these forums i seem to find myself feeling the minority who actually likes the game. But i also know that’s not true, as many people on my friends list too are enjoying the game. This is not to say i haven’t noticed issues, mostly with spawns and bugs in game modes. If you look through my post history you’ll even see i’ve only posted about bugs on infinite so far. But in those post i say what i will reiterate here: This is still a beta. and I will say personally as someone who took place in halo 5s beta as well as betas for mcc, that this is probably my personal favorite thing 343 has made on launch.

For those of those who weren’t in this community much don’t know a lot of people had a bad taste for 343. After MCC came out and was extremely buggy on launch and people’s dislike for halo 5 in terms of both gameplay and story. And with the way some of them (one of 343s employees) had spoken in forums to peoples genuine criticism of mcc early on. It took a long time, but while replaying the 360 halos before sun setting i didn’t feel the same distaste for 343 anymore that i had.

They were listening to the community again. They put file share services back online for reach and halo 4 just because fans requested it. Either for their achievements to 100% the game, or for their theater mode clips they wanted to save. A lot of people were asking for just that in the old forums and most of us weren’t hopeful. Especially not after the multiplayer services were down during the first Infinite Flight. But after the flight 343 not only fixed the multiplayer again, only a few months before these games are basically gone for good, but they also put back on those extra services. That day my opinion on them changed, and as I remained skeptical i was also excited for their future projects, ie. Halo Infinite.

Now I wasn’t much of a fan of the 2nd flight when i got into it at first. I almost posted on my disappointment. I had been hoping for a fusion of halo old and new, the best of both. But as i played it, i started to get the feel of the game down better. I started to win gunfights and understand the new game modes and maps, and was actually enjoying the flight much more towards the end. But before i knew it the flight was over and I thought that’s all I would’ve had until December.

And then all of a sudden I hear my friend mention they released the multiplayer as a beta for free. I downloaded it right away. I played and didn’t experience any of the initial feelings i had in the 2nd flight. The gameplay felt smoother, to me atleast. now does this mean it was perfect? no, and it’s still not perfect now. But everyone expecting it to be is asking for too much imo.

I remember before seeing anything about the level up system, and how i wanted it to be just like halo 3. I remember how disappointed i was when i saw it was different, but i knew then just as i know now, that those hopes were unrealistic.

Personally i’m liking the beta and i feel thats more important than minor issues i had. I left my feedback on those issues and am happy to say that i think the updates and events were happy surprises. The game isn’t even out and we already get to f*ck with it and the armor and challenges and level up system. 343 surprised me.

Personally i like the items in the season. And i don’t mind playing to get them, as games and time tend to fly by often when playing with friends. and yeah there’s a few items in the shop that i won’t be buying even tho i like them strictly because of their price. but i’m not gonna sit here and whine about it. They gave us a lot of really cool stuff in the season already and that was only $10 for a good deal of items. which i might add is standard for games with season based drops. all of noble teams armors and classic halo armors from the past, as well as the flaming helmet, armor, kill effect, and actions. I think they made it worth it and that’s why i bought it. With a gift card i got from microsoft rewards i might add, ie. free. And i don’t think these forums should be blown up by people doing nothing but complaining. Most people, as far as i’ve seen, who’ve put time into the game have liked it so far and are going to continue to play it. We don’t care about cosmetics because we just won’t buy them, you don’t need to either.

But even after the update for the season pass people still complain. i like the game so i’ll enjoy playing to hit 100 just like i would in any other games that i have played in the past with seasons or exclusive content. And honestly i don’t think those later things should be easy to unlock. I want to earn it, and for others to have to as well. If the seasons aren’t timed as was the case in mcc, then i dont want the time and grind that i put into getting something to just be given away to others because they want to complain that it’s too hard.

As this post, i think, has gone on long enough i’ll put my thoughts on the Waypoint and Forum Update linked in a comment below. I understand my opinion might be different from some, but we can civilly discuss our opinions in the comments if you’d like.
