Thoughts on th Warden Eternal

For me

He sucks

when i was playing on Legendary, he was really easy to kill (until the Breaking, because of three Wardens), he wasn’t anything big to fight, he was a failed Villain and lets face it, over used time after time after time

What do you think of the Warden Eternal ?

I think he makes a good boss, but, because of how many to times he was used as one, he lost a lot of character.

He wasn’t a very good villain, especially when compared to Tartarus, the Grave mind, or Truth as far as story or the motivation of the character.

For the latter, it essentially seemed like his motivation boiled down to “I must get Cortana-Senpai to favor me and not that Human she likes so much!”

As far as fighting him, they could have at least changed his moves around here and there, but did not.

campaign he was a filler villain
truth be told only those 3 chief missions weren’t filler since they’re the only ones the plot actually advanced.

Warden just like Osiris and basically everything in the campaign could have been removed entirely and the story would have progressed unchanged.

Tell me what chief did in h5 that progressed? Cuz far as I can tell not a single thing happened besides Cortana going rogue. Do you also forget Osiris saving blue team as well? I see to much love for chief getting in the way when even his part was done in a -Yoink- manner like the rest of h5. You’re going to get called out for saying the only missions that were even decent were the ones involving chief, cuz h5 destroyed what h4 actually built on and made chief the same old boring guy in 1-3 that says a line here and there. It also didn’t expand on blue team or their connection to chief. Many questions andvthings I could get into but no need, just don’t act like the only semi decent missions were the ones only involving the chief, cuz as said, I will call it out just cuz people let their love for him get in the way of a story that did him no justice.

Terribly written and overused villain. The double Warden fight was cool. Triple Warden fight was repetitive, especially after fighting him 6 times before that. We had no reason to like him or dislike him, since his sole purpose was to basically go and be like “hurr durr I serve Cortana for some reason, so now I kill everybody who isn’t Cortana”. He looked kind of neat, but I really dislike the Forerunner design that’s comprised of a billion disconnected floating parts. It’s far too different from the established Forerunner design. I mean, look at this closeup of him, absolutely nothing is connected. I can live with the idea of a few floating parts, like with the Didact’s armour and Promethean Knights. But absolutely none of the many tiny parts on his body touch each other at all.

So yeah, no, don’t like the Warden.

The first and second boss battles was cool, but he was overused a lot of times and his character still has no purpose in the story, so I don’t feel anything about the Warden Eternal.

What chief did. well honestly not much and that is saying something about h5’s campaign right there. To quote you “Cuz far as I can tell not a single thing happened besides Cortana going rogue.” Yep that’s it. Chief was just there to bare witness. That was H5’s story as a whole. Watch Cortana for reasons that wont be explained unless you go searching become evil. Blue team was there for the same reason Arbiter and Buck were there, fan service.

Osiris could have been replaced with literally anyone. Palmer and a few no name S4 could have done the same, would not have changed anything. All honesty that save to blue team was to try to give them some purpose. Remember when the decided to change their mission to helping chief? Me Neither. Yes H5 threw out everything h4 set up in regards to chief which imo shouldn’t have been done.

If you remove Osiris completely and remove chief and blue team getting trapped, you’re left with the same story. Arby still beats Jul, since he was winning in the first place. Jul being alive or dead didnt mean anything obviously since they carried on like nothing happened. And Cortana goes evil for 0 in game reason.
Osiris’ story is what if called Filler.

Just there to eat up time, just like Warden

Lore-wise:
The Warden Eternal is an AMAZING character. His concept is very nice and I think they did a good job with his voice and art and all that stuff. Lets be honest: He’s probably the best new character they’ve added.

Gameplay-wise:
Could do with some improvement for sure. Although I do think he is quite satisfying to kill and can provide a good boss fight if you’re in the mood. Maybe making him tougher in campaign with a more formidable ability to call Prometheans to his aid and I believe that incorporating the environment with him would be good: For example he could climb and jump up walls and over cover and uses cover for himself. I also think movement should be increased - I mean he’s a big dude with a sword; I would like to see him running and spinning and slashing while reacting to cover and incoming fire instead of just standing there as a bullet sponge shooting people from long range. (Imagine if he had a variety of executions (assassination style animation) where he used interesting methods to dispatch Spartans and stuff like that. - He has great potential because his lore is sound.

From a gameplay perspective, he was a somewhat interesting boss the first or second time around. Obviously way overused without any attempt to refresh the encounter in subsequent battles - they could have at least given him some new attacks or something.

From a lore perspective… I don’t even know where to start comparing him with actual characters like Jul, the Didact, Truth, Tartarus, Gravemind, etc. Since we still know virtually nothing about who he really is and where he really came from, he’s just generic bad guy #17823541029384521. And actually I’m not at all unsure that isn’t what they intended, since people squealed that they didn’t understand enough of what was going on in Halo 4.

As a character I don’t think he was that good. As a boss, he was ok but too common to be a real boss. He’s more like a sub boss with how often he is put down [such as knights and hunters]. That is a common problem with Halo, the bosses aren’t that tough unless they have a lot of backup. See- Regret, Tartarus, Spark, and the Didact.

The Didact was actually a good character, so were the others, but he was just a quick time event. Regret was just glorified hijacking with Elites shooting and stabbing you. Tartarus was the closest that Halo has come to a good fight, but even he was lacking attacks. Imagine if he had the ranged attack the Tartarus’ Gavel has [I know, different hammers and all, but still]. Spark was a “meh” fight, you just killed him with a few laser shots.

The Hunters and Knights, even though they are mini bosses, put up a better fight imo. 343 really knocked it out of the park with the redesign in Halo 5. I’ll give them a 10/10 for the changes.

Edit- Or are we talking about the main villains [the bosses of the boss; Truth being an example over Tartarus]?

Halo has always had good characters, with few exceptions.

I’ll admit, I actually sort of enjoyed his snark when addressing Chief during the campaign. It was an okay change of pace from the usual.
As a character, he was just recently introduced so like the other newcomers will have to take time to sink in and see where he goes.
As a boss he’s pretty good… But gets used too frequently, and that sort of makes the experience overused. All things in moderation. The triple-warden fight should never have been a thing.

The Warden Eternal is a bag of dead babies and oatmeal thrown into a dumpster filled with rainbow slime.

I think he will be awesome in the future once we find out who he really is.

I liked the Warden Eternal. I enjoyed the banter he spewed and everything. The repeated fights didn’t bother me. It made sense to me. It was just the lack of other bosses that bothered me. I hope we see the Warden Eternal again in Halo 6. Perhaps in a different context

I know this is a little off topic but I just clicked on the stars to the sides of your “Do not click this” message thing and I don’t even know what to say.
