I finally got a chance to play the Ghosts of Meridian update last night and played the new Warzone map, Skirmish on Darkstar. I don’t know about everyone else but I’m really not a fan. I’m a supporter of a lot of Halo maps, (except Halo 3’s Snowbound), but this is just not a balanced map in my opinion. I feel like there’s just two small open areas for vehicles and the fortress is the winning point. Plus it’s all about snipers and shotguns. Maybe DMR’s if a player has it unlocked, (which I did and it proved to help a bit). Shotguns for indoor combat and snipers for outdoors. It was really linear to me.
Now I’m also going to address this: I HAVE ONLY PLAYED THE MAP ONCE. FROM THIS, I MAY NOT KNOW ALL THERE IS ABOUT THE MAP. I’M JUST GIVING MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE MAP FROM WHAT I PERSONALLY PLAYED.
I’m curious to see what everyone else thinks though.
Love it. After Battle of Noctus which is designed for Gauss Warthogs and Scorpions , i think that Warzone needed a map for Banshees and Wraiths. In addition to this , it looks amazing (light system feels fresh , not the same as other maps) and bosses are calibrated for infantry this time…
I love it! Aside from Apex, Darkstar has to be one of my favorite warzone maps now. It eliminated a lot of the campy ranged fights that were seen in warzone (looking right at you, Noctus…) and forces the player to deal with both ranged and close quarters combat more often.
I totally disagree that the fortress is the winning point. Played 3 games on it last night, didn’t take the fortress in any of them, and won 2 out of 3 by a large margin and didn’t lose the 3rd that badly. If you can control the armories you can pinch the fortress bad and control the entire map.
Makes it hella hard to farm or core. i ran a 12 man team yesterday and we had to win by points because we couldnt get to the core and they kept sneaking up and capping bases.
Huge fan of this map. I love how there are so many different ways to get across it with cover. The center is not a great spot for vehicles but there are fairly wide lanes on the sides that you can easily do some damage in a tank or warthog without being boarded immediately. The fortress isn’t as big an advantage on this one with how close everything is together. You can spawn anywhere and be near the center or boss spawns quickly. Played it maybe 6 or 7 times and find myself putting up higher Spartan kill numbers compared to the other maps.
Reminds me a little of titanfall for some reason but I love the war torn look which halo 5 usually doesn’t have and even though I’ve only played once I think it may be my new favorite map.
I like it. I like the fact that there are so many routes to get around, especially with cover as others have mentioned. I also like that the bosses are a little different. I love how it starts out, with both teams in immediate conflict over a minor boss.
