Hey guys, recently when I’ve been searching Halo Infinite’s forum and news, I have come across the fact that there may not be assassinations in Infinite. This is sad in my opinion because ever since reach it was so badass to take down a spartan like that. Especially in 5 where you could choose an assassination. That was one of the things 343 did well. I honestly am sad to see that there is a possibility that they may not return. Any thoughts on this?
This is not a “may not be” situation. 343i have confirmed that assassinations won’t be in Halo Infinite at launch.
They stated this in a livestream a while back but is also important to note that they’ve also said they want to try spruce up what assassinations are, giving them a greasy breath of air after being virtually the same thing for so many years now.
They’ll come, it’ll just take time.
I mean, a melee to the back of the head being stronger than head on makes sense.
It’s just weird when you pistol whip someone and you don’t have “Assassination” announced.
What I’m expecting is animations being mulled over because the cosmetic train doesn’t stop with F2P
343i confirmed that there won’t be assassinations at Launch. From what I heard is that they want to incentivize a reason to assassinate because they noticed that people would disable them in Halo 5, which I strongly dislike the notion of and just want the ol’ Reach/H4 style of assassinations back.
Conspiracy theory time but I think they are just saving them to make a future battle pass more impactful and it can be more focused around assassinations. I don’t blame them if that’s the case, and I guess there is no good way of saying that to the community.
I only disabled them as I felt I had little control with a short press easily becoming a long melee press and activating it when I didn’t want to. If I could set assassination to be double tap melee button I would have them on always, even if I still would use them infrequently.
Someone else on the forums gave an excellent way to balance them, increase respawn timer on an enemy that has been assassinated. Not only would that make the risk/reward more worthwhile, it would also make it comeptitively viable to use it. It doesn’t need to be excessive, 3-5 seconds extra max.
I don’t care about them at all.
It’s a gimmick that doesn’t enhance the core gameplay in any way. Besides, why would i bother entering an animation that leaves me vulnerable for an extra second or so when i could get the kill and be done with it?
I always turned them off. If they bring them back, I hope they bring back the Yoink medal so I can hear Jeff say it every time I headshot the player getting assassinated.

No one ever said assassinations will not be in Halo Infinite…
They literally said, and I quote, "we found a glaring issue with assassinations in the game files, so unfortunately, assassinations will not be added until a couple months after launch.

Because casuals love things like that lol they are already at the bottom of scoreboards so getting an assassination and being vulnerable is the highlight of the game for them

As a casual, I can confirm this.
Assassinations were cool, but I found myself accidently going into the animation more often then I preferred, especially in the middle of a battle which has gotten me killed several times.
If they can implement assassinations in a way that can’t be accidently triggered, then I’d like to see them return… it made sneaking up on that sniper or camper much more satisfying.

haha nothing wrong with it, at least you’re honest!
@kkolossal yeah that was so annoying accidentally going into the animation when you wanted to just quickly melee and move on to keep fighting

Source for that quote? Because that’s not what they said at all when they first announced they wouldn’t be in the game at launch, they said a large proportion of players just turn them off so they’re working on ideas to re-work them before they implement them again. Which is fair enough I think, it doesn’t make sense to invest in animations and game systems that maybe up to half your players turn off especially when you’re struggling to hit your deadlines. Better to let your artists and designers work on other cool stuff that everyone will see. It’s just a shame this means we probably won’t see them in campaign, but I can live with that.

3 games with assassinations and 3 without currently so it’s not like we’re not used to them being absent, I have them turned off on 5 anyhow

I’m also pretty disappointed in this, assassinations were an awesome addition that Bungie made in reach, and it’s sad to me to see them leave.
11 years ago Reach launched with a full campaign, assassinations, co-op, forge, firefight, and a whole system of unlocks without microtransactions. You could pick your own colors, and just buying the base game got you a rank/progression system that lasted months even for a regular player.
I use to feel like every new Halo game added more and more, now it feels like I’m not getting the same bang for my buck.

It’s free…
Don’t worry, Infinite will have assassinations, they are currently trying to work them in so they are viable to use in MP. Unlike in Reach and H5 if you did the assassination animation you would be vulnerable for a second or two.
The assassinations were really cool! But I’m guilty of eventually turning them off. The amount of time it takes to pull off an assassination lead to a lot of deaths so while I think most people agree they were cool most people also turned them off because it changed the flow of gameplay in a negative way. I’m not sure how you fix that problem since assassinations need time to play out which is time that your not in control of your spartan which in turn leads to a higher probability of death when someone walks around the corner and sees you mid animation.
Sad that they wont be in at launch, one of my favorite features to be added into Halo. Also never really saw them as a problem gameplay wise, the animations were short and neat, and if it was me being assassinated it would motivate me to get revenge on that person, rather than just -Yoink- my pants and cry about it.

All you have to do to avoid going into the animation was just to tap the melee rather than hold it, holding it makes you enter the animation, this has been known for forever. As for a way to not trigger them at all, halo 5 implemented an option to turn off assassinations.
I wonder what assassination’s will be added, and if it will be like halo 5 where you can chose the style
