The design of Waypoint overall is a welcome change, but there is a lot less personality for the forums now, it feels …basic? perhaps I’ll get used to it, this is not my first Waypoint change rodeo.
I guess that comes with the territory of using a non-proprietary forum software. When it was first announced, I realized quickly that all Discourse forums kinda look the same, so I kind of knew to expect it.
I have mixed feelings. I would like to be able to change my profile picture at least. I do enjoy the new font though it’s nifty.
The old one was also super basic and bland, you were just used to it more
It looks very sleek, but will take some time to get used to it
dude it only has Infinite and mcc for game data that makes me really sad I get that the servers are going down but it still would be nice to see my records for them even my fire team raven data is gone I had to leave town to find and get fire team raven data and now I cant view any of my data im upset
I’ll miss the simplicity of vPrev and while I was initially a bit sceptical about the newness, I’m quickly finding lots of little bits and pieces that the old forums never had and that will make this place really awesome and fun.
As Sam has already mentioned - there’s still more to do and more cool things to come
The Mobile experience could use some work but overall I’m satisfied.
Enjoying it so far. Love how it’s all smooth and stuff. Works amazing on my phone. I could get used to coming on here
I’ve only checked out the browser version but I’m excited to look at the app. I’m also hoping they add new things once the game comes out!
Threads not having pagination is something I’ll have to get used to. I’m still instinctively trying to scroll to the top when I want to get out of this thread, which doesn’t work so well for longer threads.
Unpopular opinion, I liked the other one better, it was more clear and easy to understand. Now everything is cluttered and jumbled together, it seems almost claustrophobic.
For sure, I’m sure it’ll get annoying having to scroll farther and farther down with longer threads.
Kinda miss the old waypoint, but I’m willing to give the new Waypoint a chance. Probably will feel better to use after getting used to how different the site looks now.
Edit: Hope they add HW2 to the service record tab, feels weird to not have those stats available after having them with the old site.
You don’t actually have to scroll. There’s a vertical bar in the top right corner showing where you are in the thread. Clicking the date on the top gets you to the top, and clicking the “[time] ago” on the bottom gets you to the last post.
So no more page numbers then?
I like the set up, I’m just not sure why it was really needed? I mean I imagine nothing from the old forums is being brought over, so its basically like starting over from scratch. In most cases I don’t think that is problem, but with a site like the old Waypoint that is a lot of content lost…
Its more like Waypoint before 2014 if anyone remembers that link wise!
The Forum had a more… post link system if I recall correctly! (Totally messed up some sources on Halopedia back in the day ahaha)
Its interesting though. I do find learning a new forum to be fun however!
(Gonna be fun seeing how I can get better on here!)
Glad to see that this Website got some well deserved love from 343, they could’ve taken the easy route and just make some small updates but instead they reworked Waypoint to fit the new aesthetic that Halo Infinite has and it takes me back to the Early Waypoint days and even the Bnet days. Hope to see some QoL additions in the future but for now, this is much more than what most developers would put into a site/forums page.
Actually that is covered in the pinned post “welcome to discourse”
So a lotta old posts are coming back!
(Plus a lotta the old News/Universe/So on content is preserved via Halopedia so nothing important is lost this time!)
