Really wish Discourse wasn’t used.
By far one of the more clunkier forum options out there.
This seems like more of a personal gripe that some mods had as opposed to an actual problem that needed to be addressed.
Odd, Gone are personalization options, but in the link to one’s own website, also now my F-14 icon appears, by the way, that icon of mine is public domain.
Almost all of my posts that I quote someone in, the system admin bot thing automatically removes the quote, even if it’s a short one. What’s the reason for this? That I don’t like.
Also I don’t like that it shows others edits you have made to your posts. That’s no one’s business but whoever is doing the editing.
I’ve only had that happen when I’ve clicked the ‘Quote whole post’ button. Not sure if it was because of use of that function, or that my post was the very next one after the one I replied to, so a user could see both posts without clicking anything.
I am not used to it yet. I guess I will with time.
Best to just highlight the stuff you want to reply to and then click the quote button that pops up. That seems to work.
Yup, done, thank you!
another tip, if on firefox or a browser that supports css override (addon or built-in)
paste this; (without the Blockquote text)

save it as a profile for this website or whatever and when scrolling, the page will no long go from light to dark, it will stay one shade. i find it a little hard to read when the further i scroll the darker the background gets.
Great! The new Waypoint is really great.
Thanks for pointing that out! I tried different browsers and no luck. They should’ve migrated those posts before launching new Waypoint. Most search results are from old posts and users keep getting 404 Error
Well, yes and no. Together with the admins we work on what kind of community and discussion we want to foster. The admins, of course, hold the final say in that, because it’s their community after all, but our collective opinion obviously influences how this community is run.
We’ve observed that forum ranks encouraged some people to post more low-effort content, or even spam. Occasionally so much that it puts actual significant burden on the moderation team. You as a regular user may not care or be bothered by this, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a legitimate problem. There’s general agreement that spam and low-effort content are detrimental to the kind of discussion we want to foster. That’s why there are rules against it. Having to deal with the occasional mass-spam event is mentally tasking, not to mention time we’d rather spend doing something else.
I don’t like it. I mean why did they now need to preface this update with demanding permission to access your age, gender, your contacts list associated with the Email you give them, not just the Xbox account, and also the device you’re using the surf Waypoint, and a thousand other disclosures that they do not need, that you can consent to all just by simply clicking “Yes”. Call me paranoid but they do not need that information.
Same too, were we really due for an “upgrade” that makes everything dark, makes the text weirdly small, rearranges where everything used to be, and for what reason? It does not seem like they have done anything to make the new Waypoint “better” than what it was before, in fact the only thing I’ve noticed so far is that huge disclosure agreement of way too much information, more than what any person should need to give, and all needed just to make a post on a public forum.
Because of GDPR. Lack of prior disclosure doesn’t mean they weren’t collecting that information in the past. After GDPR came to force they are just legally required to disclose what data they want to collect.
And you should absolutely be paranoid about it. Microsoft doesn’t need to have records of any of this information. They shouldn’t have records of this information. But at least now you know what they’re trying to collect, and can make an informed decision, rather than them just shadily collecting everything without your consent.
True true. While I can’t necessarily be appreciate that blatant abuse of information is out in the open and people are, for some reason, cool with that, but at least those who care know now exactly what Microsoft is/was doing, and the negative consequences for such.
That said I am still absolutely going to oppose this, but also thank you for mentioning the regulation!
To be fair the old waypoint had a censor as well iirc the words were replaced with BLAM!
So that’s not new lol
It has its perks like more unique pfps to pop up,seems fast and looks like they have a reply function now instead of the old quote to reply method
Cons takes time getting used to ,nostalgia for the old waypoint, the loss of old badges and the fact everyone’s basically getting treated as new members
Also apparently the email listed in my profile seems like it’s glitched and not showing the actual email I use for this account lol
Man, I love how this new waypoint looks. Feels higher quality and has more personality. This is well designed website.
I appreciate that explanation, really I do. Seems like someone finally took the time to thoroughly explain the process behind determining what changes to make in the transition from the old to the new. However, while you have a good point, I would argue that the new badges here have a similar incentive to push people into spamming. Perhaps not as much, since badges aren’t displayed as publicly as ranks were, but for instance there’s a badge for flagging a post, yet you would think that the need to flag a post would be rather uncommon. The fact there’s a badge for it seems to me like the idea is to tempt forum-goers into flagging random posts. Same idea could be applied to other cumulative badges
I do like the new reply system because it might lead to less confusion on who someone is talking to. Then again it might not add to less confusion due to new users. Having said that I feel the new reply system if used correctly will be better then quoting someone.
