Thoughts on New Waypoint?

I loved the beta it was great and this site looks so HALO  :innocent: great job2 the web teams. :love_you_gesture:

The more I hang out here, the more it’s reminding me of the old Bungie, net days!

I gotta dust off my old school forum skills haha.

I am no expert by any means, but there is a lot more functionality here than meets the eye. For instance we can use strikethrough text now.

We also have a new method for spoilers

Boo!

Underlined text

Tables

X Y Z
1 2 3

Something that would be nice would be the ability to customize what formatting shortcuts appear on the text editor.

Overall i don’t think its bad, there is good to it, its just the way the old one was designed made it better to save stats. I know this may sound silly for some, but im a stats junky and i just loved seeing this concept of stats

*Why i can’t even include a link in my post… this is so silly.

I was trying to fill the bar with all blue lol. Now the way they are made you can’t save all wins in one pic. And it looks much more generic when it comes to the bar you can save. The parts where it says Multiplayer. Old one had gamertag and emblem.

And for some reasons my post does not appear…?

Infinite scrolling threads. :unamused:
I remember things getting cut off for me on a 3:2 Surface Go in beta. Don’t seem to have encountered such problems yet.
Seems people are accidentally logging in as other users and posting as them. Just had it happen to me. Seems to be fixed for now.
No light theme :unamused:

It’s actually really simple: if beginning to type a username brought up a list, you’d be constantly fighting that list any time you want to write any word, because chances are there’s a username beginning with the same syllable. The purpose of special formatting syntax like “@” is to remove ambiguity from formatting: it makes it clear when you’re looking for a username instead of just a normal word. There is also the case where you might want to type a user’s name, but don’t want to pollute their notifications, which would be impossible without a special syntax.

And out of all syntax, the “@” symbol is really the most natural and intuitive one, because it literally means the word “at”: you mention a user who resides at the given username. It’s also a symbol that’s often not reserved for other uses, because it has no use in the English language, and is not used by other formatting syntax. Concise, unambiguous formatting syntax doesn’t grow on trees.

It looks fantastic! I had no idea that they were going to be updating the UI; however, I haven’t found out how to click on my Legacy stats to see my Halo Reach/4 stats.

I’m the least savvy with social media and all this modern web design, but even I have to agree here. If anything good ever came out of twatter, it’s @mentions.

I’m digging this upgraded version. Looks immaculate

Need clans or companies or some way to stay connected with other players

I disagree again. Type a word/name/username, list pops up, ignore list and keep typing and you end up with standard text; select from the list and you get a mention/call out/whatever the correct terminology is. I’d suggest a setting to turn off that pop up if it annoys some users. There could always be a control in these text boxes to click to specifally search out of username if the user preferred that. I don’t find the need for special characters at all intuitive. If I wasn’t already aware of the use of the ‘@’ symbol it would never occur to me to use it in this context or any other apart from perhapse as part of an email address.

Edit: I seem to be feeling very disagreeable today

I like how the overall design is but I still need some time to get used to it.

Changing settings to toggle the list on and off sounds a lot less intuitive than typing a locative symbol to activate list of locations.

I copy and paste the text of my topic created earlier, I think it is important to note this:

I feel disappointed, within all the options and possibilities that I expected from the new Waypoint website, having a sub-forum for the Spanish language was one of my main wishes. With the arrival of Discord, in which we have an exclusive channel for Spanish-speakers, added to the fact that we have Spanish-speaking mods, plus 343’s effort to open up to their entire community and welcome, I hoped that we would really have that sub-forum. Even more so when it becomes evident that in the Halo community there is a very high percentage of Spanish speakers.

I know that the new website is still under construction and that it has many updates ahead, but I have the sad feeling that among those plans for the future it is not in mind to create these sub-forums for the different languages most spoken in the community.

I would like, if possible, 343i to provide us with information on this matter. And to the Spanish-speaking community that read me, leave a comment showing your support to make it more visible.

I add: I am really delighted with the new Waypoint website, although there are still things to fix or bring back.

It was suggested that the list popping up when you type might be annoying to some users. List pops up when you type something, it annoys you, so you go looking for a way to turn it off and right there in the list box is a button to turn it off. That seems intuitive to me. As I mentioned, it never would have occurred to me to use a symbol, let alone which to use. For me, I only know what you have to do because I did the tutorial on here.

Edit: And of course see a button along the row with Bold, Italic etc is one to bring up a list if you want to mention a user, which seem pretty intuitive to me. I’m typing some text, ooh I’d like to mention a specific user - how do I do that? Oh there’s a button right there!

I mean, it’s not like I dislike the new waypoint, but is literally everything from the old site just gone now? All of the many conversations, the progress towards badges, everything? I also couldn’t find the poll discussions.

To be honest, losing all of that feels pretty weak. Sometimes we bring up things here because we have some vague (and probably misguided) notion that it is the best way for our voices to be heard by 343. Having it ALL deleted is just a strong reminder that our input here doesn’t matter.

I really like the Design, and the fact that we now can use our own Profile Pictures. But it will take sometime to get used to.

Needs a little bit of ironing out, the fastest times in service records are currently ran through seconds as opposed to a MMM:SS:-- layout, otherwise it looks pretty up to date

Don’t forget that we have this fantastic new date tool too.

This is the time Infinite will release in Australia:
2021-12-07T13:00:00Z

This is going to be absolutely fantastic alongside tables for flighting, livestreams and community play dates!!
