Thoughts on New Waypoint?

I see a lot of people talking about the new app so i figured let’s get it all in one nice post.

For my money I’ve never been a fan of just plain white backgrounds with text and images so this new site looks great. But I’ve only used it for about as long as it takes to write this.

So far I am liking it! But I will say my Legacy Service Records are inaccurate.

Hopefully it’s just first day bugginess.

If you don’t already like it you’ll come to love it. I was an active user on a Discourse forum before and it is much better than Waypoint’s old system once you get used to it.

So far it’s good, but on mobile some articles are cut off on the right side of the screen. Also, I’m hoping the forums will eventually become accessible from the waypoint app.

I enjoy the new Waypoint layout, it’ll take time to get use to, but it’s very clean.

It certainly has a nicer aesthetic than the previous version, so that’s definitely a bonus.
A few things I’ve noticed that I’ve appreciated so far are:

  • Choosing which game you want to view your service record now no longer necessitates you filtering through a dropdown list, but rather categorises the active games from the legacy games - though I’m not certain why it doesn’t show any record for the Halo Wars games
  • The ability to preview your response as you’re writing it, showing all the formatting which typically you have to hope you got correct in other forums.
  • Live forum replies, rather than having to refresh every time.

I’m sure I will find more things I enjoy as I spend more time with it (and assuredly things I dislike as well), but I’m enjoying it so far!

I will say, re-joining a thread and seeing right where you left off is a huge enhancement!

Ranks in the “traditional” sense won’t return. But there will be new Forum badges to earn and stuff like that.

It’s so much easier to keep up with the discussion lol.

Not to mention being able to see all the replies to one post in one location is very nice as well.

Something I may find challenging going forward is getting used to everyone’s new pictures - haha!

I am debating on changing my GamerPic to match my old Halo Waypoint avatar… lol
