Thoughts on Locke as a character?

So i’m waiting for Halo 5 to download (75kb/s glitch FUUUU) and i’ve been doing research on campaign only to learn that MINOR SPOILERS you play 12 out of 15 missions as Locke and wanted to know what you all think about the character i’ll be spending the majority of this game with. Is he annoying, entertaining? Interesting or bland?

Bland, very bland to me.

Tries to hard to be a player, Chief totally out classes him in every way.

Campaign made me dislike him. Too much Locke and 343 trying to make me like him.

Pretty much this, I probably would have liked him more had be not been shoved down our throats.

Wish there’d been more of a balance, like the Arbiter and John-117 in Halo 2. It became dull playing as Locke for the majority of the game with only three missions as the Chief.

I don’t think he was terrible. I was going in expecting to hate him. He was just ok. No where near the character that the Arbiter was when he was introduced though so don’t go in expecting a dynamic character like him to play as.

He is a bland character, I’m on the final mission in campaign and I’ve gotten very tired of him. Every chief mission though makes me feel like a god. 343 did a good job of showing/making you feel like the characters, or maybe I’m just delusional lol.

At least Locke had the balls to go toe to toe with chief. I absolutely loved that cut scene, my jaw dropped. Literally.

Yh, I also feel like a god when playing Chief. but when I go down and other blue team member picks up the Chief it doesnt feel right.

Just showing that S-II are better and S-IVs pale in comparison

I really liked playing as Locke. The Master Chief is obviously cooler, but playing as Locke was amazing! I love the whole former-assassin turned Spartan approach

No offense, but you are. There’s not a single difference between the two in terms of gameplay lol.

He’s bland in the game. Comes off too bossy, at times. A try-hard.

If I didn’t watch Halo: Nightfall, I’d hardly be interested in Locke and probably think of him differently. I only have some respect and interest because of Nightfall.

Not a lot of character, honestly. Even in Nightfall he’s super bland. At least 343 got to character development with Chief, hopefully with other characters in Halo 6.

Honestly I expected to come in and hate him cause I love the Chief and Blue team, but after I finished the game I have zero feeling towards him at all. Very bland I don’t care what happens to him in the future

Same on the Spoiler, omg. Definitely wasn’t expecting it and I was clapping with joy at how intense it was.

None taken lol. I just enjoy the chief missions more I guess. I can’t stand listening to Locke or team Osiris for that matter. I’ve enjoyed the campaign story other than one or two things. I just do not like playing as Locke.

But Chief was a nameless, voiceless, stiff, war machine at one point also. We’ve grown to love him as his story has been fleshed out for 15 years.

Rubbish character. Hate him. Good game, fun campaign, but marred by this personality of a wet -Yoink!- wannabe.

My avi should tell you I like him lol, at least more than the Chief in Halo 1-3, That said, I think as a character, he’s very similar to the Master Chief in many ways.

He’s a good leader, not much of a chatterbox, and impressively intelligent. He focuses on doing the right thing and is committed to humanity.

The thing that makes him stand apart from the Chief, however, and where I think his true strengths shine as a character is his history with ONI. References are constantly made to his shady past, some are backhanded, and he just… takes it. He’s calm and calculated even when being outright disrespected. Like in Nightfall, he’s impressively diplomatic.

As I’ve said in a previous post before the game launched, Locke seemed to display all the ideal qualities of a Spartan. And objectively speaking… I was right. I can’t say right now that I like Locke more than Chief, but I think by the time another game comes around and/or some expanded lore drops that features Locke, that could do it.
