Thoughts on limited customization

Whatre your thoughts on the limited customization in Halo 5 (no shoulder, leg, or body armor interchanging, no emblem color palette, etc) In my opinion they went with quantity over quality and that can have its place but man I really miss emblem coloring how I wanted and interchanging armor.

I miss playing with the emblem colors, I’m ok with presets for the armors

I’m not sure it’s possible for me to care any less about customizing a character I can’t see. There is absolutely 0 point to it.

Very true, it does kind of suck that you cant view spartans in the pregame lobby

I don’t care about seeing them at all. I just wanna be able to mute people in the lobby. How my spartan looks is meaningless to me.

Armor meh. Emblems just let me know when and where and I’ll grab my pitchfork

It’s really disappointing, even with all the other options we have.

I’d rather have a wider diversity of armor types than a wide diversity of armor skins.

Very happy with the new way of doing it. No more hodgepodge visual vomit I’m forced to see through my scope.

Don’t really mind the preset armours, but sometimes be like OMG why those forearms o.O I wish they have added a better shades of green like Sage or Olive for armour.

I would’ve liked the old system better, but the new system is varied enough to where it’s not bad (at least to me).

Its so bizarre with Bungie basically perfecting the system with Reach and then 343 going in a completely different stream-lined direction with theirs.

Id prefer if each thing was in pairs instead of seperate/preset because symmetry and indivdualism at the same time.

I don’t know. I’ve taken hundreds of screenshots across all the games (where it was possible) and have relied heavily on customization. Many of my shots have been themed: the avatar I use here on Waypoint is one of my shots, so the Mark V with the forge monitor taken on Vortex inside a Forerunner structure for an homage to the CE mission “The Library”, for instance.

For me, Halo 4 has the best options in terms of quantity of armor, still the ability to mix and match pieces, most of the classic sets, and decent maps on which to take screenshots. Reach is a bit limited in options, but it has Elites, so it’s tied, really. Reach and Halo 4 are fantastic for screenshots.

Now since many of my shots are themed, I usually just use complete armor sets. Mark V, ODST, Mark VI, Security, what have you. So I haven’t missed the ability to use different shoulders, for instance. So Halo 5 is just fine. And the textures and details on the armor sets are great. But for me, the problem is the maps. There are so few developer maps. Forge maps are rubbish for screenshots.

So for me, and I know I’m getting off topic, but I do have a gripe, when I hop into Halo 5 to take screenshots, I have all these armor sets and nowhere to take shots. I have like 4 maps. I can’t forge anything but landscapes because the pieces look awful. They’re fine for gameplay, but jaggy shadows and smear textures make for terrible pictures. Halo 4’s BTB maps were gorgeous and provided hundreds of screenshots (I’m not exaggerating, I took over 300 screenshots in Halo 4). I can’t take 300 screenshots on Regret and The Rig.

Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. Notice the skyboxes on the H2A and H4 maps. The Halo 5 map is the closest thing we have to a pretty backdrop (it looks lovely and all, but it’s the only one):
Halo 2 Anniversary.
Halo 4.
Halo 5.

Okay, I guess I did get off topic there. Point is, I don’t have a problem with the customization. We have all of the sets and then some, and yeah, it’d be nice to mix them up, but my point is, that’s the least of my worries … I mean, from the perspective of those who take screenshots and make machinimas. I just want to know what happened to whoever made all the gorgeous Halo 4 maps.

Edit: I just remembered, isn’t Halo 5 the first Halo game not to have help from Certain Affinity? That might be why. Certain Affinity made many of the maps for Reach, Halo 4, and H2A. And since for Halo 5, none the work was outsourced, they probably didn’t have as much time or manpower to crank out as many.

Is it possible to change your profile pic with one of your shots? How?

No it’s not. They used a bunch of screenshots from the spotlight contests they used to hold for avatar pics.

Halo Reach.
'Nuff said.

I think the customization system is a huge step back from Halo: Reach and Halo 4.

Hate it, alot of the complete sets they have look like garbage, rather actually have my spartan look decent. Its sad when a game like CoD has better player customization.

The lack of proper armour customization is a huge disappointment to me. I miss being able to mix and match the pieces that I like, and now I feel very limited in the appearance I have for my Spartan. At this point, I don’t see myself using anything other than the Noble set with my helmet changing every now and then.
