I’ve seen a few differing thoughts on how grenades operate in this flight, but the general consensus I see is that people feel like they’re too strong. Or more specifically, that grenade spam seems to feel more prevalent in this game than in others. Personally, I agree that something feels off with how grenades are working in Infinite at the moment, and I think I know why and have some ideas on how to improve it.
Theirs definitely an aspect of the maps being tighter, the fact grenades are on pads makes them easier to pick up, but I think the main thing is their speed. You can throw nades particularly quickly, and they move at a high speed as well. This makes throwing a grenade less of a risk/reward scenario. It’s a little too easy to throw your grenades without the risk of punishment. I think the speed they travel at is a factor as well. Their inertia means they bounce fast and far, and it’s generally easier to get them fully around corners and across the map. Rather than a lob, they act a bit more like a fast-ball straight down the line. Because of this, it’s harder to back out of an engagement, grenades are getting further across the map, and most frustratingly at least for me it’s a little too easy for someone who knows their dying to quickly throw one or two grenades out in a martyrdom type hail mary attempt.
I think a decent fix for this would be slightly increase the arc of the throw, and slow down their speed in the air just a tad. I think slowing the animation down a touch, and adding a couple more frames of delay after a throw before you can act again would all go quite a long way to making the grenade play in the game feel better. Not huge tweaks to any of those values, small subtle changes that I think when combined will make an impact. The explosion radius and damage, at least to me, seem fine. Curious to know what other peoples thoughts are?
