I’m starting this forum because I feel as though we weren’t given a truly great story from Halo 5. Maybe you feel the same way? I want to know what everyone thought of it and what ideas we have that could of made it better. I love halo and the game play, but can’t help feeling like the story was lacking in character development and information. I’ve said in a comment thread on a IGN video that I felt like the halo community could have written a better campaign story. What is everyones’ likes and dislikes? What should have been done instead? I’ve also never interacted with the community like this so this should be great!
I was very excited when Blue Team were mentioned and I couldn’t wait to play with them. My biggest disappointed was with the lack of character development as you said for both teams, however especially for Blue Team mostly because I knew a lot about them. Other than not getting to play as Chief that much and the fact that it wasn’t really much of a hunt, I enjoyed the campaign. That ending though…-Sits and waits for Halo 6 won’t be that long…right?-
The story was just a huge let-down in almost every respect and it feels really detached from Halo 4’s excellent story and direction. Chief’s character was hardly developed any further from Halo 4, both because of the narrative and because he and Blue Team were massively overshadowed by Osiris. And even Osiris weren’t fleshed-out to their full potential despite their missions making a huge bulk of the campaign. The decision to revive Cortana and make her the antagonist without adequately explaining it was just plain idiotic.
I did enjoy some aspects of Halo 5 such as exploring Genesis, the scale size of the campaign, Exuberant Witness and the inclusion of multiple perspectives again (despite it not being captured well). But the bad stuff easily outweighs the good stuff. After the excellences of Halo 4’s story, I was expecting a story on par with Halo 2 and Halo: CE. Too bad I only got a story on par with Halo 3 and Halo: Reach.
I’m sorry to say but I too was disappointed with the story. I agree there are many good parts to the game. I liked being on a team. I liked the new characters but they were way to underdeveloped. I don’t have to play as MC for it to be good. I liked a lot of the missions but… Where was the hunt? That was such a let down. I hope 343 takes this seriously. Poor story telling.
where’s the beef 343?
I agree with you guys about the lack of development for each of the teams. The advertising campaign looked so good but once I finished the game, I was dissipointed afterwards. There was one fight in a cutscene and then after that, Locke kneals to him like a weak wolf in a pack. I heard someone mention that it would of been cool to have a boss battle against blue team and the chief. Wasn’t really a chase or a hunt, more of a game of catch-up. And Exuberant was great! Reminded me when cortana was a fun companion before she went bat -Yoink- crazy, haha.

I agree the campaign feels like it ran too quickly, kinda like watching a bad action flick where the hero runs through guns blazing and into a fit of glory. Halo 4 had a much better story and the content in the campaign was more fulfilling. Not only that but after all the hype of Locke hunting Chief down and the advert with them fighting it out and one of them dying I was disappointed by what was sold to me on TV. Not only that but the Spartan OPs in Halo 4 really brought the backstory together, I like Halo 5 but I’m not really interested in hunting down every piece of intel in every campaign map to figure out what is going on. The Multiplayer could also do a little more as well for added story or background info. What really got me is that first the wanted to take down Chief then they wanted to kill him but towards the end they are buddy buddy with him or is it just ONI being sneaky and I forget to try to not spoil things for those that didn’t beat the game yet but lets face it if you didn’t beat it on day one you are running behind everyone else.
I think it was uneccesary to have new characters like tanaka and vale. And having Buck in the game seemed to have been more of an enticement/reason to buy the game than just for the fans. I wish they hadn’t killed off the spartan black team in escalation. Would have been cool to play as them, chasing down the blue team.
And the 3 missions where you just walk for a couple of minutes and talk. seemed like filler missions just so they could add up to 15 missions to excite players. I will say though that the levels were exhilerating and fun to play. But the terrian didn’t look finished and the backdrop could’ve been better.
