I just wanted to make this thread to talk about some of the things that have been said regarding Halo 4. At first I was againist the changes they are making to the game, now I’m not so sure I had the right mindset to see what Halo 4 can be with the additions of loadouts, “perks”, Sprint as a default, and the new breed of armor abilities.
First off I want to address the whole Casual vs. Competitive talk that is going around, Halo 4 needs to be a casual game (without randomness) and what I mean by this is that anyone can pick up the game easily and be pretty good at it, but from good to great needs to be harder to achieve. This will make the game fun for new players and casual players by keeping them competitive with players of a higher skill, in-turn this will make the game fun for competitive players by giving them a challenge and growing the competitive community (the more you play with good players the better you will get). I’m going to talk about playlists for a second, I think that Halo 4’s default Multiplayer settings need to be great for competitive gameplay the more you tweak the settings the more you alienate casual players which isn’t good for growing a competitive community. Anyway Casual or Competitive doesn’t really mean anything. A casual game can be competitive as long as the PERSON playing it is competitive and vise versa.
The more information that comes out about armor abilities the more I am liking them. It seems they are much less powerful compared to their Halo Reach counterparts. It seem to me like they are equipment that you can choose and pack around to complement your play style. I’m not to sure what I would be allowed to say when talking about them so I’m going to stop with that I have more opinions but I don’t want to break any rules.
As for perks they don’t seem like overpowered game changing additions. Like the AAs they seem like little things that will complement your preferred play style.
Sprint as default is my least favorite but I think it will be fine now that it is default and has the slow down effect. It can speed up gameplay as long as the slow down can stop the sprint sword and the sprint beat down, which it can and I am sure 343i has fixed that.
With loadouts this can be awesome, I for one hate matches where it seems like I can’t get any weapon but my default AR. Also I have noticed from watching a few things that the loadout weapons you can choose seem to be well balanced against each other, if you know how to use something like the AR you can do well againist the other people starting with like the dmr or the br. It just seems like there isn’t going to be a weapon that will rule them all in this game and I honestly like that.
Ordance drops is something I really like, it really isn’t very different from power weapons spawning in a set location on the map. They just spawn in different places which will move the action around the map and make map control more challegning and in my opinion more fun for both teams, I mean who wants to do the samething over and over again.
All I am saying is I see a AWESOME Halo game in there somewhere and I think 343i will release that awesome halo experience this november 6th. Just don’t write it off so quickly (like I started to do) because it has some features from a mainstream fps, it won’t play like one and from what I’ve seen it plays like Halo and with all the new stuff they have added to the game it could very well take the Halo franchise to a whole new level. I can’t wait for E3 so we can really start discussing this stuff on these forums.
