Thoughts on Campaign? (Spoilers)

What did Waypoint think of the Campaign? Good? Bad?

I thought, if they had another level or two, the story could have been a little more fleshed out (the story felt rushed). The level design was great (minus the insert cortana here and then there parts). I really liked how they subtly brought out chief’s character at the very end after Lasky walks away, “She said that to me once, about who’s the machine.”

The campaign was very fun, actually had great vehicle combat, just felt a little rushed.

agree, it felt very rushed to me as well. Gameplay and level design were possible the best yet, but i thought the story just got way too deep into the lore with not enough explanation. I have read all the books and am very into the universe, but wasnt fully sure what was happening until i went back to watch the ending

and i thought the ending was just awful…the didact fight was anticlimactic, cortana death was corny, and no explanation of how cheif survived the nuke

all in all i give campaign a 7.5/10, thank god multiplayer and SPOPS are awesome!!!

Master chief survived the nuke because he is master chief.

The campaign felt very hectic and rushed and very repetitive (press a button, go over there, kill some people, press another button, repeat). And the ending was horrible. I hope we don’t have another Mass Effect on our hands come Halo 5 and Halo 6. Say what you want about the Campaign, I don’t think this is the “best one” like some people think. Not even close, in my opinion. Don’t like the direction 343 is going with this, to say the least.

  1. cortana is physical now ?

  2. why did she stay ?

  3. the didact is not dead or is he ?

  4. why no cliff hanger ?

  5. is chief out of commission at the end ?

at the beginning the chief is human and acted human cortana was machine and acted machine not chief is machine and she is human right ?

  1. In that instance, she /was/ the hardlight bridge.

  2. She left one fragment of herself in the bridge, I.E. the one she used to speak to chief before she/it dissipated.

  3. Does it matter? There’s still potentially one more Didact around- even if he is dead, it’s not the last we’ll see of the Didact(s). If he’s alive, great. If he’s dead, also great. There’s so much room to go on from there with either option, and both include expanding upon the Didact in-game.

  4. I thought the slightly conclusive ending was nice. I literally can barely formulate a solid theory on what happens next in H5, so I guess the expanded lore and SpOps will be our guide into what’s gonna happen in H5. It’s nice to not know, for once. Kinda like how when CE ended we only kinda-sorta knew/thought there’d be an H2.

  5. Don’t think so, nope. If anything, the ‘taking armor off’ sequence was the prologue to him getting the Mark VII, which he did not obtain otherwise throughout the campaign.

All in all, I thought it was by far the best campaign yet. If you read the expanded lore, you get the most out of it- I wasn’t really confused by much of ANYTHING in the campaign. All made sense, all was enjoyable, all of it leaves me craving more Halo. Just how any campaign should be.

Where’s the plot hook at the end?

I’ll say it was the best campaign yet for me, although I never played through Halo 2’s campaign. It didn’t have a “Two Scarabs” moment of sheer epicness, but the part where you were on top of Infinity with the mech was pretty awesome.

The Prometheans were fun to fight, significantly better than the Flood. Covvies were the same ol’ Covvies.

The campaign felt rushed and hardly explained things like the Storm, Didact, Librarian, etc. It was also irritating how none of the humans were in the slightest bit suprised that a Foreunner was still alive. It was also unclear how Master Chief managed to survive a nuclear bomb that was right in front of him. Overall I give it a 7/10.

I guess they should’ve given more obvious dialogue- very few people seem to realize Chief’s survival/Cortana’s offensive were literally right before their eyes: the hardlight shield.

One thing I should feel to bring up: When speaking of how rushed the campaign feels, don’t forget to think of previous Halos. They often jumped from place to place with little explanation, and Halo CE in particular was TERRIBLE at explaining what the hell was happening without reading the expanded lore.

I would seriously vote CE for worst game intro out of any of the Halos, if we’re talking standalone. I think the problem for most people with this new campaign, is that they’ve grown used to UNSC/Covvie lore, so the older campaigns just make /sense/ to them. This new trilogy focuses moreso on Forerunners,w hich very little of the playerbase knows anything about.
