Thoughts on a Halo 3 Anniversary?

What would you think about a Halo 3 Anniversary remake for the MCC?

I’d play it.

Would be pretty cool to get Blur cutscenes, but the graphical fidelity improvements wouldn’t be much over the MCCs presentation.

Dunno man.
This year is Halo 4’s 10 year Anniversary. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I’d be perfectly okay with paying 5-10 bucks for a remastered H3 with blur cutscenes and remade maps, hell I’d be okay with 20 bucks for it considering how big a project that would be, would also bring a lot of people back to play which would be nice.

I don’t think the step up in graphics would be worth it honestly. H3 looks good as is really. Besides we need more H2 maps remastered for H2A before any other remasters.

The last thing I want is an incompetent company touching Halo 3 in any way. I’m grateful that they didn’t even try to do it.

Halo 3 is the most overrated of the entire franchise.

The lines are cheesy and the dialogue is bloated. When you compare the brilliance of Halo 2’s dialogue and story it is pretty glaring how bad Halo 3’s is.

Level design is great, boss fights are great. The multiplayer level design is excellent, but the combat in multiplayer IMHO is very lacking. Zero feedback on the guns or shooting which drives me nuts. Halo 3 was a bullet sponge where it would take an entire magazine to take someone down.

I personally cannot stand Halo 3 at this point and wouldn’t buy an anniversary version.

I don’t think it needs one. Halo 3’s lighting was revolutionary at the time and still holds up to this day.

Would be awesome to have some -Yoink!- cutscenes like Halo 2, but the graphics are in a limbo state at the minute. The remaster graphics likely won’t be much different to current ones, but a lot more taxing on a system, so if it’s only gonna be remastered cutscenes then I don’t see a huge point in a full new game.

Knowing Moneysoft and 343 they’d have the audacity to charge $70 for it too.

Halo 3 was a bullet sponge where it would take an entire magazine to take someone down.

4-Shotting with the BR is proof that this is false.

The writing in Halo 2 is not different to 3 in any meaningful way. If the lines are cheesy in Halo 3 are too cheesy then Halo 2 suffers the same.

Honestly, I’d just be fine if they added more/the rest of the Halo Online features and content (especially the maps Reactor and Skybridge) to Halo 3&ODST for the 25th anniversary.

on top of that, i’d also want to see:

  • Halo 3’s multiplayer Mark VI model and its permutations updated using the H2A Campaign model

  • the FTR/CEA Mark V added to Halo 3

  • recreations of the concept armor permutations for Halo 3

and finally the restoration of the missing Elite ranks for ODST (Stealth Minors and Majors are in the files without the Commando Harness, but Ultras and Zealots are still MIA since March 2007)

Very nice bait, mait. Almost had me with this one.

Disagree with all of your points.

h3 campaign is pretty broken and not worth playing on mcc. H2 netcode is garbage. They need to fix those things and infiniti of course. H3 doesnt need a remake.

Well this year is Halo 3’s 15th anniversary. Maybe 343i will surprise us in some way. I rather doubt it but blur cutscenes would be nice.

Don’t have to agree if its fact.

We want it. We’ve asked for it. 343I heard us. We’re not getting it.

I honestly believe that current day 343 would not be capable of doing it right.

3 basically needs a few lighting changes and high res textures, models, and terrain. But I just know they would change the artstyle and audio design if they touched it. They did it in CEA, and (admittedly to a lesser extent as far as artstyle is concerned) in H2A, so I don’t think they would have the discipline required to properly respect the source material.

Besides that hyper-critical view, I don’t think 3 needs a remaster yet. The game looks so good even now because it leans more on artstyle and lighting, than on raw (2007) technical prowess. Call me crazy, but I would actually wait until the next Xbox to remaster it. Assuming respect for the original artstyle and audio is paramount.

To all game developers regarding remasters and remakes: It’s not a totally brand new game. Your current day artistic liberties generally aren’t wanted or needed, so be very hesitant when making non-technological changes. Try to understand the essence of the original game. Think about what it was trying to be then. Not what you want it to be now.

I’ve seen folks hesitant to let 343 create a Halo 3A solely on the fact they don’t trust 343 to do it justice. I pose the question who do you think made HCEA and H2A? 343 probably approved the budget for these games, but Saber Interactive were the ones who stitched the new assets to the original titles. 343’s actual involvement in the creation of assets and tooling for these titles was probably very little. Even currently with the MCC, 343 and Saber work together to maintain it. At the moment the only aspect of legacy titles that 343 definitively and exclusively works on, are the mod tools.

If a H3A were to happen, it would most likely fall to the hands of Saber who did a pretty bang up job with H2A.

At the end of the day I don’t really see why a H3A would even be necessary. As it’s been updated in the MCC, H3 has silently been getting an anniversary treatment. 3 new maps, hundreds of new customization items, improved forge, higher resolution and frame rate, mod support, and etc. There are so many amazing features added to H3, I can’t see them redoing it all again in a separate release.

If 343I made Halo 3 anniversary now it would pull them out of the grave they dug them self’s into with infinite.
