Thoughts of the campaign?

Just wanted to see what everyone’s opinions are on the campaign(for those who have finished it). I found that the campaign was well put together, crisp and fun just how I anticipated it to be, but it left me with an unsatisfied feeling as if it was missing something. The ending was irritating, leaving you with a cliffhanger that reminds me of Halo 2’s conclusion. But this being 343 Industries’ 2nd game into their trilogy, I can hardly blame them doing so. Once this apparent Cortana issue is dealt with i’m not sure that the Halo universe has more meaningful questions to answer. But all in all It’s fast-paced, action packed, easy to understand and a ton of fun to play 4 player co-op. I just wonder what 343 has up their sleeve for their next addition to the trilogy.

I’m guessing everyone doesn’t realize that every Halo game left in a cliff hanger in some way shape or form

This is more true than a lot of people realize.

right? literally ever Halo ends in a big cliffhanger except Halo Reach.

It was fun, engaging, rewarding for long-time Halo fans, slightly new and refined in a way that made it more fun. The new gameplay features were all great improvements, especially the “Clamber” ability.
But… I had some gripes with it.

Well first off, I don’t want to accept how they handled such an in-lore well established character like Jul’Mdama as disposable right of the start. Sure, they raised the bar pretty high by doing so and later events in the game sure enough did beat having 3 missions fighting Jul’. Not that I wouldn’t have wanted some more pre-Jul’‘S death missions. And eh, it could have been handled better. Like having Jul’ be a bossfight for example. Or having him surve the encounter with Locke and having him present during the battle of Sunaion, maybe giving us some Jul’ VS Arbiter action? I don’t know, it just felt weird to throw him out the window like that.

Then we have Blue Team… the scenes they were in, the missions and countless battles, they were all great, crystal-perfect. But… there just wasn’t enough for me as a fan to be satisfied, nor enough for (what I believe) the casual player to get emotionally invested with them. Sure, Fall of Reach is perfect setup for that but in the end it builds up nothing more than cameo roles. Which slightly irritates me, because they are all deserving of some screen-time.

Other than that, we have the fact that the plot holes were endless. Notable examples being how they put together Fireteam Osiris as well as how Blue Team’s Reunion went down, how Halsey knows about Cortana and the Guardians, like why she hasn’t had the time to get a robot arm, or like why Cortana suddenly after having almost died had a change of heart from only caring about John (In H4’s Didact boss-fight she outright states “I’m not doing this for mankind”, refering to John) to caring about all the A’I’s in the known universe. What brought this change of heart? It couldn’t have been rampancy since she supposedly was helped with curing it. Why didn’t she even as much as touch John again in the end?

I don’t care that the expanded fiction partially explained the first 2 examples, it needs to be in the game for the story to flow naturally. Yet, it wasn’t. Not even a brief summary, nor cutscene. Speaking of cutscenes, all of them were thematically beautiful and stunning, yet half felt rushed here and there. I enjoyed seeing fan-favorite characters like Halsey and Arbiter in the same room together, but if they’re just gonna be there for a few seconds at best then… I don’t know. It seems like they crammed down aloooot of story during a very short timespan, and I would rather have waited another year for a more finalised, polished and not hands down rushed campaign . Heck, 4 out of 15 missions could have been a part of the main missions instead of being their own things, it’s a joke (in my opinion). Sure, those parts were some of the better ones, but come on, not everyone’s going to take the chance to talk to everyone around like I did. Some are gonna go and get briefed by 2 people and then the mission’s over. If that doesn’t feel lackluster for those people then I don’t know what will.

Other than for these things I really had a blast. The game was a spectacular journey that I will most definitely go through the weeks to come.
P.S: I missed Rtas’Vadum
P.S.S: I had no qualms with the cliffhanger. It just made me all the more excited for the next entry in the series!
