Thoughts after a Halo 5 hiatus - Warzone

I stopped playing Halo 5 sometime in 2017 mainly due to other games coming out. Recently I have picked it back up again as the casual gamer I am, and returned to my favorite game type, Warzone. One problem, I’m beginning to hate it after a few weeks of playing. Here’s why:

  • Games are more often than not dichotomous with very good groups and not so good groups, making if really boring and frustrating if you are not on the good team - Games are dominated by about 2 or 3 players on each team, who rack up 90% of the kills between them - Games do not often come down to skill, but more often than not who wants to use the most REQs - Most maps have bosses you can just splatter, involving no skill - At the beginning of each game there is always at least one player who runs to the other teams subsidiary base and stops them from taking it, or tries to. It is so predictable it is a bit sad. What could be done? Well at least some ranking so players with more “skill” can be put to annoy each other in their own games. Also bosses who can’t just be splattered. REQs are a part of the game, how it is, still annoying though. Remember: A rocket launcher is a “fire and forget weapon”; fire it, and forget it took no skill to kill your opponent. I’ve taken to blocking players who make the game not fun for me, but I keep getting paired with them which is annoying.

I want to keep playing, but don’t know if I can be bothered.

Anyone else equally disillusioned?

Blocking players in Halo 5 Warzone does not prevent you from matchmaking against/with them. Awhile back, when Warlords was being offered as the 12v12 version of WZ, teams of 12 were using the block feature to prevent matchmaking against better teams of 12. It ruined the matchmaking for the playlist. 343i turned it off, not wanting people to use blocking to prevent matchmaking against better players, as that really wasn’t the intention for blocking in the first place.

Warzone already does matchmake using hidden skill (MMR). Since it’s a social playlist, though, and since WZ has many non-traditional methods of scoring, public ranks aren’t a thing, and WZ matchmaking will expand the skill gap when matchmaking earlier than ranked if no good matches can be found.

There are plenty of these. Bosses in vehicles. Knight bosses. Warden bosses. Hunter bosses. The only bosses who can be normally splattered should be Elite bosses or Soldier bosses.
