Thought process behind loading screen design?

I’ve been mulling this over this past week and cannot seem to figure it out. I don’t understand why the loading screen is designed the way it is. For instance, why use tiny emblems that take up 1/6 of the screen. I understand 343i didn’t want to display rank to prevent quitting and I’m guessing not displaying gamertags goes hand-in-hand with that. But why not use larger emblems or use the full emblem as seen under “My Fireteam”?

Another thing, why make it such a complicated process (relative to previous games) to see the details of everyone in the fireteam instead of simply tapping right on the d-pad?

The UI in general is easily the worst of any Halo game and pretty low quality in itself for a triple-A game. But it would seem like some of the choices have a lot of room for improvement and a talented team like 343i would have realized that. Hell, the loading screen for 4 was one of the best! So what happened? Does anyone have any insights or a link to a video explaining this?

I know Act Man has a rant video about how bad the UI in Halo 5 is, but I myself don’t mind it too much because for me game breakers only exist within the actual game itself. Most of the time the errors occur when you can’t see yours or other people’s spartans and they just disappear, or the req store will be unavailable indefinitely, which doesn’t matter to me cuz I never use it.

also, you can see the details of everyone in the match by clicking on his or her name and then just scrolling through each player with the R or L trigger. Unless you’re talking about something different, then idk. As far as post game results go, Halo 5 by far has the most detailed and useful information of any Halo game. It does a good job of giving credit where credit is due, while at the same time not giving you a trophy for every shot you make.

I agree that Halo 5 has the worst UI of any Halo game, and it actually baffles me when I look back at Halo 2 and 3’s UI and see how superior they are to it. The scrolling and navigating was so smooth and clean, and the sound effects were much better imo. I personally can’t stand the click noises in Halo 5’s menus. And just the style of it really makes no sense. Like, I’ve seen fan made Halo 5 user interfaces that were better than the actual game’s lol

In Halo CE we had an epic Halo ring in the background that was gracefully displayed with a panning camera.
Halo 2’s menu was presented with a beautiful musical theme and displayed New Mombasa being attacked in the background.
Halo 3’s was much like Halo 2’s only with a different musical theme and different locations being shown in the background, still amazing.
Halo ODST had the rookie sleeping and bascially showing a scene of tranquility along with the menu music.
Halo Reach had what almost looked like concept art for it’s menu backgrounds, and had amazing menu music, and the background changed with each section.
Halo 4 had an amazing menu and in my opinion the best menu music because it really captured what Halo 4 was all about, even though it was so different from all the others.

then we have Halo 5. What does Halo 5 have? A ship. Yup. Just a ship sitting there, not moving, no camera panning the scene. The ship just sits there awkwardly in space, and when you get deeper into the menus is just shows screenshots of spartan in the background, screenshots that could easily be created by a brand new player. Also, the menu music really isn’t something you want to be listening to for long periods of time, which is why I always have it off. And that’s the only Halo game where I turn off the menu music, sadly.

I know right? I’ve been using my HCS LAN emblem to show off, but it looks exactly the same as the normal HCS emblem that comes from the HCS req pack, unless you look at it long enough to see it shimmer. It would have been nice if the full emblem was shown, at least. Sorry I don’t have an answer to any of your questions but I just wanted to say I agree with you.

I mean actually I would have preferred to be able to see everyone’s Spartans and stances in the pre-game lobby because otherwise what’s the point of even unlocking cosmetics? You’re not really going to see them during gameplay, and not many people look at other people’s Spartans in the post-game stats. I feel like “oh no people might quit if they see the other team’s rank” was a silly reason to take away the ability for everyone to see my Spartan and stance before the match. Just my opinion.

I think OP is talking about the pre-game lobby.

I don’t think it’s bad, but I usually turn it off when it gets to that really loud part right around the time the Grunt flies past the screen. That’s a little obnoxious.

Yeah true, I didn’t consider the stances either. That HCS emblem is so sweet and it kinda sucks that players who have it don’t get to show it off more prominently. I like to keep an eye out for all-black emblems and keep focused on them hoping to see that shimmer. Lots of little things…
