I think people greatly underestimate how much damage a little sustained fire can do to a vehicle.
I think the dumb part is trying to get shots on a vehicle while also not getting destroyed by the vehicle mans team.
When the wasp pretty well insta deletes you and you’re getting pushed, finding an opportunity to shoot at the thing can become problematic rq.
But i rarely see vehicles anyway outside of that C shaped map cause BTB.
There should be weapons you can use against the Wasp though:
Shock Rifle
Disruptor Pistol
Sniper Rifle
Hydra
Rocket Launcher
Another Wasp
Other vehicles (tank, Warthog)
Sustained team fire
Folks seem to be missing the point that when there are 10 people attacking your base while the wasp is spawn camping you, you’re lucky to live for five seconds to shoot back at the thing. You look up to fire at it and you get sprayed down by a warthog, you try to fight the ground troops and the wasp melts you from the air.
Good luck finding a Hydra, a Sniper, a shock rifle, etc when you can’t even spawn without being eradicated. Once the other team builds that momentum you’re not going to be able to easily coordinate and shoot down the wasp, especially when the pilot is good and uses the cover on the map to hit and run.
On my own I did manage to spray the wasp enough over several lives to cause him to abandon his vehicle, only to see him swap it out for a fresh one.
That’s fine, Halo has always been a game of momentum and map control. But when there’s a literal exploit to prevent players from boarding your vehicles, its a little bit broken.
Fun facts: EMP grenades will drop air vehicles with a reasonable miss distance, give or take netcode desync server client true position. You can also shoot out the two wing propellers. All vehicles have weak spots that destroy the machine fast. You do not need power weapons to take out air vehicles. They drop very fast if your team is not worthless, and everyone focuses fire on the air vehicle. I promise it goes down like a piece of paper. It’s only an issue when you’re literally the only person shooting it with a Sidekick or something. Also, if someone is grapple blocking you, chuck an EMP or sticky Plasma grenade at it as you fall. Take them down with you. Plan ahead.
Yeah, taking one out isn’t hard if you’re not being abused by the enemy team. In general play when you have breathing room its possible to take one down for sure. I actually EMP’d the guy twice in that game but the other players on the map wound up destroying me before I could follow-up with any sort of attack. When your team is being steamrolled its hard to manage.
Overall though I just wanted to post about the exploit itself, because yeah under normal circumstances its not that hard to kill a wasp.
Similarly if you have a Grappleshot yourself and bail out at the right time you can simply rejack it leaving the enemy who was attempting the hijack ending up a stunned sitting duck while you regain control.
Last time I had a Wasp pressing my team in BTB I left my team to suffer and flanked the Wasp with everything I had and took it out myself. Sounds like a creativity problem.
Hardly.
I spent nearly half the game trying to EMP it, trying to grapple it, picking up active camo to sneak up on it, trying to attack it from a distance, etc. Everything I could think of but it was a heavily one-sided game of CTF where the enemy team was quite literally spawn camping our base. One of those games where you’re lucky to live for 10 seconds on spawn because there are hogs and wasps and everything else on the map trained on you and your team.
If I did manage to get a BR and lay some fire into the thing, he’d just dip behind cover and at most be gone for 20 seconds before popping back up on the other side of the map. Meanwhile the rest of their team is causing havoc on the ground, not to mention trying to defend your flag in all that madness. God forbid you want to actually attempt to push their flag.
I can assure you all that it wasn’t a lack of effort, at least on my part to stop them. Its just incredibly frustrating when you finally get out of the spawn trap and find a grapple shot and active camo, creep up on the wasp and try to get the jump on them only to have them use an exploit to deny your hijacking leaving you open to the rest of their team to obliterate you instantly.
Well here’s me pelting the the rotors with an AR and sidekick and taking it out…

Not saying the impossible situations don’t happen. But with a little luck (enemy player might have thought my shots were comping from their teammate’s banshee, distracting them from me) and a spawn like I got. It felt manageable to me.
That wasp was taking fire before you died at the beginning of the clip and was about to explode before you shot at it.
I get your point though, it is possible and it does have weakpoints. But the exploit is still -Yoink!- annoying.
yeah I only just noticed that. My point still stands. It only took fire for a few seconds from what looks like a turret before it got away and would have had a chance to come back and lay waste if not for me though lol.
