All i can say is if you are pro sprint, clamer, etc please be willing to watch this vid and really digest everything this person is saying. If you want to debate after please make your case but I feel this Vid covers everything old halo fans constantly try and explain to ppl who are pro sprint clamber whatever. Please be open minded and actually really think about everything this person says this should hopefully end the debate for good.
Quote from Baby Bacon: The video is great btw, I recommend everyone watches the whole thing but for people that aren’t willing to do that the sprint, clamber, map design section starts around 7 minutes in. The clip he uses around 9:44 is also a great example of how much faster classic movement is for traversal and combat.

Someone is no less a Halo fan because they like a mechanic that you don’t. I highly encourage you to reword your statement because to me it sounds as if you’re unable to be open to another opinion. Lol. A TRUE Halo fan. -Yoink-. XD
Everyone who enjoys the Halo games is a true Halo fan. Just because they don’t agree with your point, no matter how sound of an an argument you make, does not invalidate their love of the game. Personally, I could take it or leave it.
Just quickly edit that “true halo fans” part out to say old school fans instead because everyone is going to go after the “true Halo fans” part in this thread instead of watching the video you shared unless you change it. Lol sorry Old halo fans tbh I feel this vid covers so much more than sprint but i needed a clickbait title if someone thinks of a more appropriate title let me kno

Probably because horizontal travel effects gameplay and map design more than vertical travel.

I agree. Clamber is just as bad, if not worse than sprint. The maps are made really vertical and weird with clamber. Part of the fun of the classic halos is trying to do cool jumps. Clamber ruins that.

Clamber locks you into an animation thus effecting gameplay whereas before the maps were designed without clamber in mind and allowed the player to navigate vertically souly via jumping never taking you out of combat possibilities “shooting, melee, throwing nade” unlike clambering. Not only that but because their is no animation or wasted time it allows you to traverse faster.

My point is that gameplay is generally more horizontal, than vertical. You will be Sprinting more often than Clambering, so in real world gameplay, your weapon is down more often with Sprint, than Clamber. This makes Sprint a bigger deal. I’m not defending anything, just explaining why people focus on Sprint more than Clamber. I personally like the feel of clamber, but I do see how putting your weapon down, even for a few seconds here and there, does interrupt the consistent/smooth feel that made Halo stand out.

This is correct. Sprint is the bigger issue as the majority of combat will take place on a horizontal portion of the map. Clamber is a huge issue when talking about jump heavy maps like lockout, midship, guardian, etc though. The reason those maps are so timeless is due to the smooth vertical combat that comes from skill jumps while having a weapon ready at all times. They built truth around sprint and forced clamber on nearly every jump which led to an unrecognizable and clunky combat loop when compared to the H2 and H3 renditions.
I believe sprint has to outright be removed to bring back the proper fast agile Halo combat that we fell in love with in Ce, 2 and 3. Clamber however could remain in the game easily if they stopped designing all the ledges to require it. It shouldn’t be an ability that’s necessary for vertical movement, but I could see it left in as a situational ability used for saving one’s self from a fall, strategically short jumping ledges to throw off opponents, or making a difficult jump over a death pit possible.
So many arguments against enhanced mobility, so much proof, so much debate over the years, how can sprint supporters not see what we are trying to convey here? Halo is an arena style shooter, thats how it all started. why deviate from that formula? its false change, ce compared to H3 is how change should be. I mean the franchise went downhill after the implementation of enhanced mobility, and thats not a subjective opinion. I remember watching a Gears of War 2 discussion panel, the devs mentioned how they took a Halo playstyle into consideration when making the multiplayer aspect of the game. Everybody used to talk about Halo back in the day. Nobody considers Halo as the iconic franchise it once were anymore…
P.S. remember the golden rule? its weapons, grenade, melee not weapon, grenade, melee, soar
Great post. Won’t be buying this game if sprint is in it. Really curious why they kept it in when you have mcc population dwarfing h5s. Why not admit you were wrong in the direction of the game 343 and actually go back to the halo roots. Gameplay is what keeps games alive and this one will plummet within 6 months if you continue down this COD mechanic road.
People like sprint cause they need the dopamine boost of pressing a button at 10 second intervals even though it makes you go exactly the same speed as previous games. Halo 2 even had faster movement without sprint I think. They are practically addicted junkies who can’t admit they are wrong at this point.

Halo CE, 2, and 3 have a base movement speed of 2.25 units per second. Halo 5 has a base movement speed of 2.6 units per second, and a sprint speed of 3.38 units per second.
So, sprint is significantly faster than base movement in previous games, and Halo 5 even has a higher base movement speed than previous games.

Fair enough. Aren’t the maps just bigger though so you have more world space to traverse? Like Halo 5s version of midship is just scaled up so really in terms of distance you don’t notice it.
