My IRL reason is I can’t stand Infinite’s rendition of Oddball. Yet the devs saw fit to prevent me from being able to filter out Oddball from matchmaking and after playing Oddball three matches in a row, and twice on the same map, I’m ready to put my controller through a wall.

“Preserving my sanity” seems like a perfectly valid, non-selfish, real life justification to me. Only a chump or a shill looks at this system where we have zero control over what modes we play and say “don’t quit or you’re selfish”.

And if you don’t like it, blame 343. A LOT of my fellow OG Halo friends dislike Oddball and quit the moment that game mode comes up. Stop defending a terrible system that screws over all of us and then saying dumb things like “you’re not a team player”. Guess what? Most randos I’ve been grouped with in this game aren’t team players either. They jump in Hogs and take off without any gunner or passenger. They run around like lone wolves. They’re camping weapon spawns for challenges. So spare me your righteous indignation that I choose to bail on the fourth game of Oddball the system tries to shove me in after suffering through it three times.

If I’m correct, the core issue behind this thread is the inability to select which gamemodes you wish to play in advance. In order to solve this issue, I would view a discussion about the banhammer itself to be a bit too far fetched from the core issue and I would instead suggest to consider viewpoints that may be a bit more effective at solving the core issue.

Due to this, a more appropriate solution would instead be to utilize a matchmaking system where the player could make in advance decisions about which gamemodes that he/she prefers to play. If we look at previous Halo games, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is using a such matchmaking system for the social playlists where the player is given the freedom to search games with a preferred set of gamemodes given a specific team size. If a similar system to the one seen in Halo: The Master Chief Collection would be used, the core issue would be solved and it would also offer the player an additional level of freedom where the player could make in advance decisions about gamemodes aren’t preferred and it would also help the players that wishes to play a specific set of gamemode in order to complete a specific task.

The end result of your proposal is that players will be able to game the system. I’m sure the system is more complicated than “if you leave X matches then you get hit with a ban.” The moment you tell players how it works, they’ll exploit it.

Which would be an incredibly stupid thing to do.

I’m saying we need to explicitly state to players when the “law” is broken

That happens. When you habitually leave the game you get banned and told not to do that anymore. If you’re asking for 343 to outline the entire process explicitly, you’re going to get people that exploit it. Which is the dumbest thing I can think of to solve the problem of: “hey, some idiot keeps leaving games like a jerk”

I’m very much opposed to quitting games.
Banning people for it has always bothered me.
I’ve been in CTF and Oddball where the other players on my team were not playing the objective. I haven’t played the MP for over a week due to this issue, because I have no idea how many times I can quit (I haven’t quit any in Infinite) a match where my team is ignoring the objective before I get banned.
Some people don’t like quitters, I don’t like people that ignore objectives. Why am I forced to deal with crappy teammates but quitters get banned?
You can get banned for killing a teammate, quitting a match, crap talking, disconnecting from server side issues. It’s ridiculous.
The vehicles in this accelerate so quickly that you can easily splatter a teammate on accident. If they want to prevent team killing it should just result in getting booted.

i got banned after the battle pass update. I just launched the game after finally being off from work and found out i was banned. It just has the user is banned message with 0:00 time limit. It’s been almost three days. Has anyone been able to fix this issue?

Don’t assume everyone has no life outside of video games with the time to wait through minutes of games that you can’t do challenges in. Also, people are selfish this has always been true, your pretty much preaching to the choir on that subject…

Your insane dude! Totally Ludicrous idea.

Sounds like you only care about your rank… who again is the selfish one?

Less people including the OP would quit games if matchmaking wasn’t manipulated to give you less game modes for specific challenges

Took me 3 days to complete a “win 3 CTF games” challenge……that’s trying on BTB, Arena, and ranked.

I’m glad you got banned. I don’t care about your challenges, rank, or rewards. I’m tired of having bots and afk players on my team and people like you absolutely deserve the timeouts you are given

My rank is diamond 1 and i stopped playing ranked 1 week after this beta came out, i prefer social and big team. I don’t care about my season pass “rank” at all, i didn’t even buy it. So what are you talking about? lol

I’ll make sure to quit and not waste your time then.

I’ve never seen a guy who doesn’t know that stealing is wrong…

I’ve also never seen a game that says “If you quit while playing this you’ll go to jail”

I tend to just start playing obj like slayer when people quit. 3 vs 4 in oddball and CTF is near impossible when teams are evenly matched. Might as well treat it like slayer. Also don’t be a -Yoink!- and quit because your challenge chasing. It is just an emblem this week who cares. I was able to complete everything last night than bam gotta win 17 games. Working full time and two kids under two I have no chance to complete this LOL. I maybe get to play an hour or two at night before bed if that…

The entitlement and absence of self-awareness of kids today, never ceases to amaze me.

I mean OP you’re literally calling yourself out lol. You say you want punishments for quitting but you’re quitting yourself. I agree though, specific game type challenges without being able to choose which game type you play is just stupid on 343s part.
